Indians suspend Aussie tour

They have not done it nor will they do it.
Though Indian team is going to stay put at Sydney till the matter is resolved.

Its hilarious.

Takes the term bad losers to a new level.

The official statement from the team said that they were going stay in Sydney and "scream and scream until we are sick" unless the ban is overturned. The spokesman went on to say that the umpiring was incompetent and that Steve Bucknor had "Spoilt his life and that he was going to his room and was never going to speak to him again. EVER."

Probably.

Our team and the whole media are acting like a bunch of crybabies.

Bad decisions went against us, but this is really too much. The sad thing is, a lot of people are stupid enough to have the same opinion as the media in this country.

Watch the aussies murder us in the next 2 tests.

'The team was set to leave for Canberra by coach at 10:30 am local time but decided against it. Around 4.15 pm, Sridhar confirmed the team had been instructed by the BCCI to stay in Sydney till further instructions. Apparently the board wanted the team to stay in Sydney as the paperwork regarding the filing of appeal on behalf of Harbhajan needed to be done in good time.'

The Australian team must be pissing themselves laughing at these blokes.

The WACA is going to be hilarious if they bother to show up.

Here's that catch that Ponting appealed for off Dhoni, the one that he's defended by saying, "There's no way I grounded that ball. If you're actually questioning my integrity in the game, then you shouldn't be standing there,"

This story is based on sources I am not in a position to reveal; read into it as much, or as little, as you like: The Indian team is not staying behind in Sydney at the behest of the BCCI; it is refusing to stir until and unless the BCCI takes some definite action. The mood within the team is one of substantial anger, directed in particular against BCCI boss Sharad Pawar who, the team believes, let them down with his pacifist statement of this morning to the effect that India does not want its relations with Australia spoilt.

The team thinking is that they are being robbed on the cricket field and dubbed racist off it, and if ever there was a time for the Board to back it, this is it. Increasingly, it believes that some sort of wishy-washy compromise will be worked out, and the prospect has left the team, particularly the seniors, fuming.

Meanwhile back home, matters are moving further towards a compromise—at the behest of Pawar himself, who is understood to have instructed his henchmen, particularly Lalit Modi, that on no account does he want the current imbroglio to impact on the prospects of the IPL, which depends on some of the high profile Aussies for its marquee value. With that instruction front and center, various board officials have been working through the day to figure out a formula acceptable to all.

The modality being worked out (remember this is in the preliminary stage, and could change) is that the appeal will be kept on ice, and Harbhajan will be allowed to play on the grounds that the appeal is pending. The team will be told that the BCCI has already worked magic of sorts by forcing Bucknor out of the third Test panel, and asked to soldier on; if push comes to shove, some financial inducements could be tossed in, to sweeten the kitty.

Thus, or so the Board’s managers currently think, everyone will be happy: the charge against Bajji will remain, but the team can play on, and at some point, the appeal will be ‘heard’, and the sentence on the off spinner will be ‘suspended’, and there will be a pious pronouncement that all parties have been made aware of the seriousness and in the event of something like this happening again blah blah...

As of this moment, the team is aware of this possibility, and doesn’t like it one bit.

Updates, as and when… meanwhile, am done for the day, see you guys tomorrow.

It'd be embarassing if we abandon this tour not to say what has happened hasn't been embarassing. The Aussies have had their part to play in this whole debacle as well.

Although we might better off abandoning this series because whatever happens we're going to get hammered in the rest of the series.

If you haven't noticed the ball is wrapped in his hand and is under his control.

This takes being a bad loser to a whole new level.

What on Earth happened? Cricket is a shit sport but this sounds exciting. Am I to believe a media storm has been worked up surrounding conspiracies and bad losers and it doesn't involve a British sportsman?

Are you kidding me? You can't see the ball touching the ground?

You cant see that it is in the middle of his fecking hand?

Have you seen he actual footage or just this photo?

Are you aware it can touch the ground if the catcher has control of the ball (yes) and control of their body (yes)?

Surely if he's flopped over onto the floor through with his arm outstretched then he probably doesn't have control over his body, even if he does have control over the ball?

He doesn't look he has much control over anything at that moment. He's clearly leaning on the ground with the ball.

Peter Roebuck, writing in the Sydney Morning Herald, has called upon Cricket Australia to remove Ricky Ponting from captaincy following the controversial Sydney Test.

"If Cricket Australia cares a fig for the tattered reputation of our national team in our national sport, it will not for a moment longer tolerate the sort of arrogant and abrasive conduct seen from the captain and his senior players over the past few days. Beyond comparison it was the ugliest performance put up by an Australian side for 20 years."

Roebuck also didn't spare Michael Clarke, who is being groomed as Ponting's successor.

"Michael Clarke also had a dreadful match but he is a young man and has time to rethink his outlook. That his mind was in disarray could be told from his batting. In the first innings he offered no shot to a straight ball and in the second he remained at the crease after giving an easy catch to slip. On this evidence Clarke cannot be promoted to the vice-captaincy of his country."

The catch is in that video.

Also Bogle and Gavaskar are both extremely naive in discussing the Clarke catch. It was decided before the series that if it was in doubt they would go on the fielders word.

As for that Roebuck article - He has hated Ponting for a very long time. He wrote a similarly ridiculous piece on Ricky when he was made captain. Having a go at Hayden for crossing himself? FFS. We should let Harbajahan off cause he is sikh warrior who looks after lots of kids. We shouldnt celebrate winning a game with 8mins left on the last day to equal a world record. Not surprisingly a lot of people are having a chuckle at the article today.

Ponting plainly believed that he didn't ground the ball when he didn't have full control. That it was ruled that he did doesn't matter. He refused a wicket in the first innings when he thought it wasn't a clean catch so I doubt he has made a 180 degree turn on these matters in a day or two.

Did any of you Aussie's see Greg Mathews being interviewed yesterday? The man has the IQ of algae. He ended up rambling on about Symonds looking more like a Silverback than a monkey.

He make Shane Warne look like the President of MENSA.

And I have a solution. Stop chucking your toys out of your pram and get on and play cricket.

And that Roebuck article was one of the silliest bits of journalism I have ever read. He criticised Ponting for insulting an Indian journalist despite not hearing the exchange. He said Australia shouldn't have celebrated so much despite the record and in any case India didn't exactly hold themselves back at the 20/20 World Cup. It also seemed to suggest that Harbajahan shouldn't be punished because a) it was an impetuous comment made in the heat of the moment due to provocation and b) because he has a large family.

Roebuck is a tard. Although not in the Greg Mathew's league.

Watching that video it looked like a good catch in that he had full control of the ball before it touched. I can see why it wasn't given but Ponting would have been an idiot not to appeal.

He believed he had it under control before the ball touched and after viewing the video it looks like he was right. It would have been retarded not to appeal.

News coming through that India has backed down and will continue the tour.

India were always going to continue the tour.

ICC has replaced Bucknor and effectively suspended Bhajji's sentence till the appeal. So that should resolve things.

Im not going to talk about the Ponting catch anymore. Anybody with two eyes can see it was in his hand a foot off the ground and stayed there. Yes it touched the ground but it was in his hand and in control. You seem to forget that in the 1st innings he took a dodgy catch and was the 1st to put his hand up and say he wasnt sure he got it cleanly.

As for the racism thing I have agreed numerous times that it is probably not the most term for indians. For a person of African descent then of course he will not like being called a monkey. Especially when the opposition was warned specifically before the test to not use the term as it was racist. Harbajahan is an idiot and deserves the ban for stupidity in my opinion.

He's clearly grounded the ball. And I think the ICC should look at how Australia play the game. From sledging to bullying umpires, it's just not cricket. As for Bucknor, I actually do feel sorry for him, he's been a decent umpire, a handful of mistakes in one game shouldn't tarnish his career. One more thing, India may not be a superpower on the pitch, but off pitch they are the biggest by a considerable margin, so I'm not surprised the ICC backed down. Oh and I still am utterly dumbfounded when I see Navjot Singh Sidhu's interview. Just to think he's someone's husband, father or uncle.

Its Symonds and Clarkes word against Tendulkar's and Harbhajan.... on what basis did he deserv the ban?
There is no proof he said anything and there none that he didnt. The match ref should have taken the easier way out and just said that bcoz of lack of proof and evidence, harbajan is found not guilty. Both parties would have been happy.
With the decision he has given now, he has basically said that Harbhajan and Tendulkar are liars and Clarke and Symonds are saints!

From his comments after the descision it sounded like he would have loved to take an easy way out but instead did what he thought was right.
