Yuvraj is currently the best batsman in India. We'll just have to make place for him... no matter whom we have to drop... even if its one of the holy trinity.
Yuvraj is the on-form batsman, but he's technically weak. Lets not do the same mistake as we did with laxman with karthik. You need technique in tests to perform consistently. Its not about just hitting the ball in tests. I believe kaif deserves a chance in tests if he works on his fitness ahead of yuvraj.
The crucial part of playing in Australia is negotiating the new ball in such a way that our openers can actually score instead of just blocking i.e. 40/0 after 30 overs is worse than 80/2 after 30 overs. Run scoring psychologically helps batsman following loss of wickets quite a bit.

Can't see Laxman opening to be honest.
If Yuvraj has to fit in, it's either him or Ganguly and I'd rather him considering Saurav's lack of love in with the short ball. I can't see any other option.

Not sure. As much as I'd like to see Yuvraj in the team I just can't imagine who it is they're going to drop. And I'd like to Karthik to play. Him and Jaffer seemed to be beginning to form a decent partnership in england. Shouldn't give up on them after one series.
Yuvraj should come in ahead of Karthik and push Dravid up to open.

Maybe you're right. But knowing how things go, if we get smashed in the first test, the knee jerk reaction will be to change opening combination either by putting Sehwag in or moving Dravid up. And then if that fails, it's a free for all with the inevitable post mortem being "we should persist with a solid opening pair" or "we need to improve wickets at home".
Yuvraj is the best batsman in India, he's in the form of his life. Dropping him could seriously damage his confidence and moral.
How about Sachin to open again?
