India v Australia, Tests and ODI's

Well I have checked out all the stats and its difficult to disagree that statistically Muttiah Muralitharan has a much better record than Warne against all countries bar Pakistan. However had you said this in the first place I would not have disagreed, however you never mentioned the player you regarded was better. He has played for Lancashire and I have seen him numerous times as well as against England, but I do regard him as a possible chucker.

And I still do not accept that Warne should only be judged against India. Would you disagree that for many years Australia have been the best in the world yet they haven't won a test series in India since 1969, does that according to you mean they haven't been the best?

And I can only go off the articles which say Warne was injured. I have no say in those articles, why should they lie?
Aussies may be the best in current era but they are certainly not THE BEST .
IMO WI team of 80's was the best of all time, they has problem against no opposition.

Similarly warne is one of the best of all time, no body can deny that. But the fact that he couldnt perform against his toughest opponents on the wickets that assisted him is a big scar on his record IMO.
I don wanna enter in a debate re: Murali's chucking, but he has officialy played all these matches and taken all these wickets, so as far as I am concerned he is better than warne.
On a personal point of view, I regard Bedi and Chandershaker as the best spinners , I know probably their records arent a patch on murali's or warne's but I have seen many of their old perfomances and I regard them as the best.

I did watch Bedi and Chandershaker, Bedi was the only bowler I ever saw who applauded when he was hit for 6. He was a very slow and cunning bowler, personally I rated underwood higher and Gibbs.

I never said they were the best of all time, personally I would say the mid to late 1970s W Indies were better than the 1980s. Richards and LLoyd, Greenidge, were at their peak and so were Roberts and Holding. However in Australia in 1975 as you are probably aware the Ausies stuffed the Windies 5-1.

There was always a question mark over whether the Windies would bottle it if you had the ability to put pressure on them. I think the Ausies a couple of years ago might have beat them.

BTW one of my favourite Indian players was a wicket keeper batsman called Engineer!

He played for Lancashire, didn't he.

I reckon the Windies from the late 70's to early 80's were the best, the teaam that included Holding, Garner, Roberts and Marshall(not to forget Croft..). Weren't as professional as the Aussies, but they had more natural talent. For me that W Indies team will always be the best team ever.

Holding's probably my fav bowler ever...........

And Viv Richards, me fav batsman.

I have to say Richards was the best batsman I ever saw, but my hero was Clive LLoyd. I really loved watching him bat, when I started watching cricket I supported the Windies over England because I loved the attacking freedom. We had Boycott, Edrich, Luckhurst, Steel...etc BORING!!!

Yes Holding was great, I would say it was a close call between him and Lillee as the best I've ever seen. And talent I agree I thought the Windies were better but there was always a question mark if pressure was put on them.

Lillee and Holding are prob the best fast bowlers ever, Lillee wasn't the fastest around but he had amazing control. I've seen some great fast bowlers in the flesh at Old Trafford, all on the county scene. Garner, Imran, Wasim(Lancy Lancy), Waqar, Ambrose, Marshall.........but Holding stood out for me. His run in, was gazelle like. What a player to watch.

Seen Richards as well at Old Trafford. Somerset used to have a decent line up. Viv, Joel and Botham, not bad at all. I don't care what they say about Bradman and whoever, but I doubt the world has seen a better batsmen than Vivian Richards.

You are actually a very intelligent poster when you want to be! And your right about everything. I remember umpires didn't even know Holding was beside them he was that balanced and quiet!

Yeah Richards was an amazing batsmen, I stilL cant believe how he used pull those ball from outside the offstump for sixes over midwicket. At one point of time I though sachin would overhaul him but for the past couple of years he has shunned his agressive style of batting and IMO become less effective.

Warney is the man.

Name on spin bowler you would have ahead of him!

Sure he hasnt been the most successful bowler against the indians, but you could make similar claims for any player if you looked through their stats.

Great start to the test yesterday - Strong position and if we get a couple of early wickets then i can see us finally claiming our Holy Grail.

I can't believe that anyone is still seriously suggesting that the cheating chucker is a better bowler than Warne. Remove the wickets he got by cheating and he wouldn't get picked for a pub team.

India are shite again!. We must stop playing cricket and concentrate more on hockey
Whats with you and hockey?
Anyway, I am afraid after a year of euphoria, India seem to be back to their inconsistent ways

congratulations aussies...your final frontier has finally been conquered..thats got to be the worst indian team iv seen at home... oddly enough the same team most people though was the best away indian team they had ever seen.
The team is back to square one now.. all thier successes of the past 2 years have one by one been nullified by defeats.. they won in pakistan and did something no other indian team could do.. they did almost the same thing here..only the other way round. Their wins in the natwest, champions trophy will be forgotten after continious recent defeats.

The aussies did well ..really well..and deserve to celebrate but even the enlgish or the lankans would have hammered us the way we played.. Also i believe the second test was probabily the crutual one.. i have no doubt that we would have won that game had it not rained.. we were high on confidence, batsman returning into form and just 200 runs required..and i think that was probabily the turning point.. but still we didnt deserve any sypathy the way we gave up in the third test.

The article on the front page of the times of india gave a perfect description of whats gone wrong with indian cricket over the last few months.. the contract controvesy, BCCI elections, persistance with parthiv( ) etc while the aussies like true professionals were working hard with a clear aim in mind.

You might want to have a look at the date. Its after the fourth test.

I'm genuinely not having a go, but things change so quickly, its difficult to say they are crap one game and not the next, crap usually refers to the team overall rather doesn't it? Especially when you used the word "is" crap!
