India v Australia 2013

 Take it all in guys, can't see us having an easier series against Australia for a long time.

Apparently they were dropped for failing to give presentation to the coach on what needed to improve. What the feck?

That's insane. I suspect there might be some other issues. I was kinda hoping to see Pattinson on the Mohali track and see what he would have done, which is a shame. Good thing for us anyway.

That's insane. I suspect there might be some other issues. I was kinda hoping to see Pattinson on the Mohali track and see what he would have done, which is a shame. Good thing for us anyway.

It's been confirmed by various journalists.

Australian vice-captain Shane Watson and fast bowler James Pattinson are among four players dumped from calculations for Thursday's third Test against India for a breach of team discipline.
Coach Mickey Arthur and team manager Gavin Dovey made the announcement on Monday afternoon as Australia continued preparations for the third leg of the series, which they trail 2-0.
Arthur said Watson and Pattinson, as well as Usman Khawaja and Mitchell Johnson, had failed to deliver a presentation which management asked all players to complete following the embarrassing innings defeat in Hyderabad last week.
Players were asked to outline three points on what they bring to the team by email or in person, and were given five days to complete the task. The four players did not complete the assignment by the given deadline.

Arthur said the shock axings were a move to maintain standards in team culture. ''This is a line in the sand,'' he said.
''We pride ourselves on attitude. We have given the players a huge amount of latitude to get culture and attitude right. We believe that those behaviours are not consistent with what we want to do with this team, how we want to take this team to be the best in the world.
''I believe those four players unfortunately did not meet my requirements so those four players are not available for selection for this Test match.''
Arthur said the quartet would be available for the final Test in Delhi. Watson and Pattinson would have been in the XI on Thursday, while Khawaja was also a strong chance of selection to replace the out-of-form Phil Hughes.
Mitchell Johnson, who took five wickets at the the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on Australia's last visit here in 2010, was also in the frame for a call-up.
''I asked the players at the end of the game to give me an individual presentation, I wanted three points from each of them technically, mentally and team as to how we were going to get back over the next couple of games, how we were going to get ourselves back into the series,'' Arthur said.
''We have given these guys absolute clarity, we have given this team a huge amount of time to buy in with what we want to do for the Australian cricket team, we have given a vision to these guys that is spelt out. We've given an expectation that is spelt out and although this incident might seem very small in isolation, this is a line in the sand moment for us as a unit in our quest to become the best in the world.
''This has been the toughest decision that myself, manager Gavin Dovey and captain Michael Clarke have ever had to make.
''It's a tough, tough decision, but the ramifications for that within out team structure and the message that it sends to all involved in Australian cricket is that we are pretty serious about where we want to take this team.
"For me, it’s almost the Andy Flower decision. Andy Flower and Andrew Strauss and what they did with Kevin Pietersen...it’s buy-in time, you buy-in to what we do because if you don’t we’re not going to achieve what we want as a team and in 24 months or however long we have, there is going to be a different set of people saying exactly the same thing and the young players haven’t learned one iota from us."

What the feck, this is the funniest cricket story I've seen in a while

Can you imagine if SAF said he dropped Rooney because he didn't do a presentation

If I was one of the players, and asked for a presentation next time to improve the team, I'd say sack the present coaches. See how they take that opinion.

Reasons for dropping Test cricketers: 1. Texting a South African, 2. Not texting a South African.

Australian cricket is in disarray and I love it, Watson's left the tour but it's apparently unrelated to the presentation incident.

I don't love it. I'd rather see a more competitive team. This is just boring to watch.

Is this some kind of joke?? This is like being back in school and being punished for not doing your homework

As expected, ex Australian players are not happy.

"It's not under-6s, this is Test cricket" - Mark Waugh

In fairness to Micky Arthur, he's actually not asking a lot. Just wanted his players to give 3 reasons how they and the team could improve. He hasn't asked for a blown out presentation in front of everyone else, sending it via text, paper or email would have sufficed.

I don't agree with the punishment but the players like Johnson and Khawaja who just simply forgot should be doing better.

It's pretty stupid. It's one thing to impose a fine or force people to apologise to the group but to send them home is way over the top...especially if the consequences weren't made clear in advance.

Hope they can atleast give us a game this summer.

Complete shamble's.

Was banking on big Mitch being in the side :(

As someone who grew up watching Australia smash everyone their meltdown over the last few years is funny as feck.

Even if they wanted to drop these players they could've easily cited injury rather than embarrassing them in public over a stupid presentation. Watson had to leave anyway and Khawja and Johnson aren't starters so their exclusion would've hardly raised an eyebrow.

Johnson and Khwaja are no loss. Pattinson would've been very good in the Mohali match though.

Dropped the only bowler who looked good enough enough to play Test cricket...ffs.

Aussies are the new England.

Yet mind-blowingly they're are still some people out there who think Test Cricket isn't dying.

When it's going down the shitter in one of the pinnacle cricket nations like Australia you know it's falling off the perch.

May as well start trying to like 20/20.

Just because Australia are shit doesn't mean test cricket is dying.

South Africa and England have probably their best test teams in history. WI and Pakistan are slowly improving. We're shit but that was to be expected as we rebuild after our batting order and best pace bowler got too old.

The attendances in both of the test were excellent. England and SA's matches are usually well attended.

Exactly. SA in particular have a wonderful test team with immense talent in every single area. I won't be surprised if this team goes on a run like Australia under Waugh and end up as one of the best teams of all time. They have the ability to do that.

This is probably England's best test team in their history? Wow, talk about having low standards.

South Africa are good but are playing against rubbish. They are no where near the West Indies of the 80's and the Aussies of the 00's.

West Indies & Pakistan are both average. Test Cricket is dead in the Caribbean.

You can count on the fingers on one hand the nations that get test crowds that aren't completely shit. South Africa played a 20/20 match on Boxing Day last year instead of a test match. So the Indian supporters decided to attend a few test matches for once and all of a sudden Test Cricket is going okay? Right.

There's a reason there's such a huge push for night Test Cricket. They think it's the last chance to save the format for future generations. I wish them luck but can't help but think they'll fail.

Your tune will change when the Australian team gets better and suddenly the test cricket will be revived.

Until that happens, keep on with your delusion.

They probably won't and it wouldn't though. Cricket is absolutely fecked in Australia. From the top to all the way to the bottom. The whole structure has been destroyed. It has been decaying from the inside out for a while now. Even if the right matters where put in place right now (which they aren't) it is probably beyond repair at this time for future generations.

And if you think test cricket isn't in trouble then you probably shouldn't be calling anyone delusional.

Your only reasoning as to why Test cricket is in trouble is that "pinnacle cricket nations" like Australia are falling apart.

Maybe time to open your eyes and see that there's cricket beyond Australia.

How many countries do you think play Test Cricket again? Not many last time I checked, and when you have one of the biggest and some many others declining you're in a bit of trouble I would have thought.

Hell Australia probably still get the best test crowds too so the fact it's doomed there should be enough to have the alarm bells ringing.

At the end of the day most of the cricket boards around prefer the shorter forms of the game and will continue to into the future. The longer form is dying out, it's sad but it's happening. There are about two nations where isn't going alright. But it's going great KM, don't worry.

Were you this concerned when Aussies were thrashing India 4-0 just a year ago in Australia?

No surprise this concern is coming when Aussie cricket is at it's lowest ebb in decades.

I wasn't watching. It was rubbish boring Test Cricket between to average Test sides. Just like I also wasn't watching the England/India series in 2011 and this current India/Aussies cluster feck series. When you got the most of the bigger cricket nations playing shithouse test cricket against each other there are problems.

You better hope like hell these back to back Ashes series coming up are better than the ones above or it's only going to get worst I'd say.

Grass roots cricket is definitely dying in the UK. The game is now only ever played in grammar and private schools, and that to a lesser extent. You'll hardly see kids with a bat and a ball playing in parks. County circuit in England is struggling financially, with most clubs reporting losses every year. I'm not sure how long that can carry on. India is probably keeping cricket in business.

However much I think 20/20 format is a circus it's keeping cricket, and cricketers in business.

feck I hope we piss all over England in the Ashes, I'm not handling us playing like shit well at all

When did we become a laughing stock?

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Douglas Jardine just turned in his grave.

Playing against the great West Indian side of the 70's and 80's to losing 3-0 against Pakistan in 2012.. Brearley, Botham, Boycott, Willis and co. are crying somewhere in a corner right now.

You are exactly right, Tabata. We have already lost West Indies; Australia, Pakistan and India are on their way. I give test cricket 5 more years.
