club are being suprisingly quiet on both the injuries and transfers front. 10 days into the window and with key players injured for weeks and possibly months, were in a worse state than when we started the season. and yet theres no sign of any incomings. how long before rashford and james succomb to muscle injuries as well...

It's crazy we haven't brought anyone in yet with all the injuries we have. We are down to the bare bones and Woodward being so relaxed about it just makes me cringe.
The transfer window is a bit more complex than that. United might have players lined up, waiting on the clubs to sign their replacements. All it takes is one and the chain starts to break.
Oh I know it’s not right and don’t really condone it but I’m at my wits end with this ‘rebuild’.

Not that I know how these things work but there’s a glimmer of hope in me that this might be the case but then again, it’s the hope that kills you.
It is beyond unbelievable to me that we have not signed somebody, or even appear to be seriously in line to sign anybody, given our current midfield and now CB situation it is, beyond a joke, it is beyond depressing, if we actually make any signings and I doubt we will it will probably be on the last day after we have played, what? afurther 4 games with Jones, Matic, Lingard, Mata and Periera as our mainstay.
Just floating this but Poch has gone very quiet, part of me thinks he has been paid to hold fire until the end of the season, given our incompetence in recent transfer windows it would not be difficult to add a bit of sabotage to Ole not that he needs much help.

Surely we have been working on things behind the scenes? Most clubs only decide to go into the January window in Dec when they are faltering in the league or injuries happen to players so they need to be replaced or a player pops up in January who they think can make a difference.
In our case, we are different. It was clear from when the transfer window shut that we didn't get all the business completed we wanted too, that our squad is threadbare and that we had sold/let go quite a few players as they would be replaced in the next window/summer, therefore we have had 3 months to work on new targets or make sure come January we have wrapped up the business we failed to complete in the summer window. 10th of January and it seems the only business we have tried to do is Haaland who we dropped out of signing, and now Woodward is scratching his head as he doesn't have a plan B. It seems we can only conclude one deal at a time.

So very true. Just what I was wondering. It looks like a wasted transfer period and wasted season already.
Problem is that all our main targets (Maddison, Graelish, Sancho) wont leave in January and we knew it. Therefore it was probably not planned any big moves except from Haaland.
They have stated this all the way : "only if the right targets are available, January is a difficult window". So it shouldnt come as a big suprise to anyone.
But then the injury crisis came and they had to suddenly start looking/preparing. And knowing our magnificent team this will take a while.
They more or less gambled that our squad would keep fit, and failed big time.
Knowing our board it's highly unlikely it will happen but if Utd could sign Bruno and either a CM or striker it will at least reduce the amount to do in the summer.

Has to be a CM. Martial or Greenwood could be the 3rd man in the attack along with Rashford and James (Martial as a 9, Greenwood as either a 9 or a RW with Rashford up top) and the other is still a good option as first reserve, whereas at CM we've got a seemingly injury troubled Pogba and McTominay and Fred, and nobody else looks up to it.
Basically, there's hope up front. Nobody would be shocked if Martial or Greenwood hit good form and scored 10ish goals in the final 17 games left in the league, but a Pogba-Fred-McTominay midfield staying healthy and gelling and not needing breaks or one of Pereira or Lingard doing well would shock everyone.
Yeah I would say CM too and personally the only one who might be gettable now is Van Der Beek. I feel that Havertz or Saul are very complex pricey deals so would have to start planning it now for the summer.
So if we fail to land a single player in January (which wouldn't be enough anyway in all honesty). What are we going to do with Woody?

In all seriousness, what can we do?. We all know he's a dick but at least hes trying to get the right players in rather than just spending on average players. That seems to be the new strategy. LVG and Jose got too many players in who were average or not UTD quality.
It'll be a slower rebuild now but it will be beneficial to the club.
We can't afford as a club to have a slower rebuild . This window was huge because we where giving a vision that Old was clearing out and building again . I for one thought in the start of the season ok we will be average but at least on January we will obviously have our named targets to keep the his so called rebuild going .

Me too, I agree. I'd love us to sign Soumere and Bruno in January. And then Sancho, Werner, and Koulibaly in the summer. That would transform us to a winning team. It wont happen though will it? We absolutely need 2 midfielders right now just to compete this season but they wont be top tier midfielders.
In reality we cant get any player we want. I doubt we could even attract Sancho or Werner which means getting the next tier down of player. And then you have to realise we have a budget because the Glazer's want their huge cut every year.

I can give you a couple for the summer transfer window now if you will: Euro 2020 so nobody's doing business now because players are focused on the tournament; it's after Euro, players are out on vacations after a busy year; the prices have doubled/tripled/quadrupled for our targets because of the Euro, it's good that we step back; player had a shit Euro, we shouldn't be nowhere near him, good on us. Can make a fecking bingo right now.

We have a slim chance of getting Champions League, if we don't sign any players at all I don't think that we have chance of qualifying as the squad is so thin that we are in an injury or two away from being in the right sh!te.
Not very confident of bringing in players but there is 12 days left and I'm hoping we get someone in. Even if we do get Bruno Fernandes we should try for a few loans as well, as I can't see us bringing in anyone else in permanent. Not the ideal situation to business later in the window but just hope it gets done and then hopefully we get Champions League to make us more appealing to quality players we need to bring in during the next window.

We're almost 20 days into the window and we've not made any signings. It's completely incompetent at this stage.

This exact same thing happened last season. We had a chance to qualify for top four and we didn't sign anyone in January due to incompetence at the club. We needed misfielders in the summer didn't sign anyone. We've let, herrara, Fellaini, Sanchez and Lukaku go without replacing any of them.
There's no way we are signing two players in January. Even though I think we need minimum three. The same old lines will be rolled out about "the money being there and the right players weren't available" ! I'm really sick of this board and owners. They've no interest in getting us back to the top and I'm losing my interest in supporting club. They are sucking all the enjoyment out of football for me. The last thing we need now is to panic buy mediocre players for over the top prices - and there can't be a single club out there who wouldn't see us coming and slap an extra £20m on the price tag. The lack of both quality and depth in the squad has been obvious all season, and this window isn't going to fix it, no matter what we do. Without Rashford, Pogba and McTominay for however long it's going to be, we can all say goodbye to European football next year right now. We just have to believe that, in spite of all past evidence to the contrary, the club is capable of identifying the right players and bringing them in over the next couple of years, by which time we can hope to be competitive again.

Given the reliance on Martial and, shamefully on, Greenwood now, what happens if one of them gets injured? Who is going to score our goals? Where the feck is our planning? How can Ole just stand there and put random nonsensical comments like 'players are chomping at the bit'? These feckers, Glazers and Woodward, are destroying our club and unfortunately the manager just seems like a puppet.
