Ilkay Gündogan | Rejoins City

What's incredible is he's playing like a no. 9, Pep should take credit too.

Subbed after indicating he needed to come off :nervous:
It would be just like his luck to pick up an injury while in this incredible form.

Just after @Bojan11 bumped this and Carra said he’s the player of the season.

He is playing like David Silva did imo. Midfielder who would constantly attack the half spaces and get into dangerous positions again and again. He is imo the first player in their team since Silva who managed to do this really well, I thought Foden would be nailed on to be that guy but kudos to Gündogan for making this role his own and probably playing the best season of his life.

Jesus that Sanchez’s attempt at defending looks worse and worse. How can a CB be brushed off so easily. Horrific defending for a ball over the top.

It was always a question of him being able to get past his back problems. He was eased in by City and has slowly regained his top level. Outstanding player.

What the hell is going on with him? He's a completely different player. It's so weird.
Different for sure. But Gundogan was always a phenomenal midfield talent. When he was at Dortmund, he had the world at his feet and was destined to become one of Europe's dominant CMs. Was the one I wanted at United as well. It's just injuries that completely derailed his career.

The way he has stepped up is amazing. Obviously a lot of credit goes to Pep for setting up the strikerless team in such a way and trusting Gundogan to produce the goods but his performances are brilliant. As much as it pains be to say it, he is a joy to watch with the ball at his feet in and around the box.

What about Peps injections? They dont exist anymore?

He’s always been a decent goal scorer, but it seems like the way city play right now especially with no proper striker suits him perfectly. He times those ghosting runs really well and his technique to control it while running and pick a corner is great.

Unlucky for him to get injured as he’s in the form of life.

That pass from Ederson. Wow. That is something beyond de Gea's comprehension, as if it came from another dimension.

Very nice pass and everything but Sanchez should easily have cut it out. Only reason it got through to Gundogan in the first place was because the defender seemingly lost all control over his body.

I said a while back, when he had 1 year left on his contract, that we should sign him and play him with Pogba and Matic (or another DM) as I thought it would free Pogba from the deep playmaking role and play further forward. He was underrated back when City had their 100 point season (when De Bruyne was injured for most of it and Gundogan filled in) and I think it was then that he was negotiating a contract renewal. Would have been relatively cheap as well.

That being said, we now have Bruno :D As a German fan it's good to see Gundogan doing well, can only bode well for the upcoming Euros. A midfield three of Kimmich-Goretzka-Gundogan can be pretty potent in terms on the offensive and defensive end.

He's getting back to the player he was at Dortmund where he looked dead on to become the best midfielder in the world

No Kroos?

That is what makes managers like Pep, Kopp and of course Sir Alex such special managers. They can turn a player whom everyone thought who's past it into a world class player. It is almost like he has become David Silva's clone. Has to be City's best player this season.

He’s exactly the same player with the same talents, except he’s now playing a different role in a modified system and is scoring for fun so getting the plaudits.
