Iker Muniain

Doesn't that show something, Tom Cleverley has had to wait until he is 21 now 22 to get into the side. We seem to be getting cautious about giving kids their chance in midfield. We would rather rely on Giggs and Scholes. They were in their teens when they came in.

Where are Bilbao in the league? Can you imagine what this place would look like if we blooded youngsters at the expence of trophies and CL football?

Their club is run under a completely different set of expectations.

:wenger: Too narrow minded.

Why the insult? I'm being this that left right and centre just because I don't rate him so much. I'd personally rather have Rossi or Falcao than Llorente. Like I said, I don't think he's a bad player at all, he's a good player and obvious better than Holt and Carrol. But he has similar traits to them.

He'll be wanted by a number of top European sides, Real Madrid included, so I am not holding my breath. We won't get any of the Bilbao players that beat us yesterday - I imagine Muniain will end up at Real as predicted, Martinez will go to City or Barcelona, Herrera will go to Chelsea or City, Llorente could go anywhere for all I care as we don't need him at all even though he's top class.

I like this way of thinking! Prepare for the worst whilst secretly hoping for the best! :D

In the same sense that Messi has similar traits to Downing, both left footed and run with the ball after all.

I think they're only similar in size. Llorente looks to do almost everything a country mile better than those two. He also seemed very capable on the ball, even aside from being a frontman, which neither of the other two are.

Only bright spot to come out of this Europa Cup run has been Fergie's got to see some very good players first hand, Eriksen, Martinez, Munain. We've also got a bit of a track record of signing players who have done well against us as well; Saha, Ronaldo, Valencia, Jones etc etc

It's not an insult.A player's body build doesn't necessarily determine the sort of player he is.

I'm not really hoping for the best in that regard though, I will be very surprised if we sign any of them. We'll have trouble signing highly regarder European starlets with City, Chelsea, Real and Barcelona having more financial power right now, I think it's players like Jones and Smalling we should be looking at right now. We have a much better chance of signing UK based players and we already have a very good English core to that team with Cleverley, Welbeck and those two.

Besides, I will be very surprised if we sign a midfield player so Herrera and Martinez are excluded from the go for me.

Munain would suit us but there are teams out there that need him more than we do and have the money to make it happen. We also have other needs to address - a midfielder and a full back would be welcome with open arms and we might need a forward at the start of new season if we let Berbatov and Owen go which seems increasingly likely to happen.

I know! It was a tongue in cheek comment.

However, I do think you will end up being surprised this summer as I believe investment will be made in a couple of midfield signings. I believe we have the finances as well as the appeal to attract talented players.

I have full faith that money will be invested in all the right areas. Maybe no star signing in the mold of sneijder etc will be made but talented young players definitely so.

That's true. Ajax were nowhere near as impressive as Bilbao who outplayed us completely. But these encounters in the CL were the only times I've seen the two of them and Munain just had that something extra going just by these two games. He looked like he had pretty much everything.

Muniain has been excellent every time I've seen him, I didn't realise he's only 19 tho'.

Susaeta was linked to us 4-5 years back, turned out to be quite a decent player. Muniain will definitely be better though

lol fair play, im sure it happens alot but why not enjoy it when they can?

young, wealthy, successful.

Damn i know that if i was in their position i would be cracking on too!

I understand we have a lot of young players who are still developing, though i really pray SAF is taking note of these young spanish players like munain & martinez. Outing the likes of carrick/park and throwing a 40-50mill bid at Bilbao for the pair. Dare we dream

Why on earth would you want to get rid of Carrick? :wenger:

Carrick has been our only good consistent midfielder this season.

Even when he is our best playing player argueably over the course of a season and basicly what makes us tick these days he should still be 'outed'. fecking hell. :wenger:

yes he did

Really? I watched the game and thought their number 23 was better. Didn't know who he was at the time, but his name is Aras Özbiliz.

Goal.com and many others had Özbiliz as MOTM....

Here's some reaction to the game also. Not the best source, but someone else's opinion on the game...

Christian Eriksen will not make it to Old Trafford on the back of this display. He lacked the confidence to take on the likes of Cleverley and Park and was completely outshone by his teammate Aras Özbiliz. The left winger had a brilliant game, constantly caused monumental problems to United and ended up with the match ball courtesy of one goal and one assist

If you didn't know Eriksen before the game then he wouldn't have stood out at all. He wasn't even Ajax's best player.

For me Carrick is fantastic when on form, though when pressured in midfield he seeingly loses his composure and invaribly we lose the midfield battle. I think like park he has been a good servant, though think its time to move on. I really enjoyed early season when we had andreson/cleverly pinging the ball around at speed, and there was so much energy there which is in contrast to when we have the likes of carrick/park in midfield.

There was no balance at all though and we were conceding shitloads of shots on our goal, we did fine results wise because we were up against shite/disrupted sides. We wouldn't have had a field day with that team against any truly quality team, we need Carrick to keep the balance.

It's insane how long he's been around already, yet he's only 19. Still the youngest ever goal scorer in La Liga?

Anyways, always been impressed with him. Would hope that we would be in for him ahead of for instance Gaitan.

Maybe his buddy De Gea can put in a good word for us. ;)

Where would he play if we signed him? He's not really a wide player is he nor is he a central midfielder.

If we're not in for one of Bilbao's players this summer I'll be disappointed

He can play both wide and in the middle. He'd be a better option than Modric given that he's 7 years younger.

We're still waiting for the last massively hyped 19 year old we signed to surpass Modric as a Premier League midfielder. I admire your certainty that this kid will achieve what Anderson may never.

There's a lot to be said for removing the element of risk by signing players with nothing left to prove.

Would we not need to adopt a 3 man midfield for him though? It goes back to the age old argument can he play in a 4-4-2.....

You don't play 442, you play 4231 and he'd be fine in any of the three AM positions (unlike Modric who's far better playing in CM).
