No way. I wouldn't exchange one of the best defenders in the world in their prime for a somewhat unproven talent. Yes he has great potential and looks like he could be the real deal with good developement but it's not worth the gamble. We will have to look into the market to replace Vidic as well, as Ferdinand is injury prone and Evans isn't ready to take the spot on a weekly basis.

do the fa/premier league still do those stickers and books with all the players for all the respective teams? i propose we invade a school with a benzema sticker and give it to a resident child and get him to swap it for someone's vidic. then we play the waiting game. we sit back and observe which of the two has higher playground status due to his new card over the following weeks. if vidic leaves the youngster in question more popular as a result and he gets pick of the girls to push in the back and first use of the swings then we know we're better off keeping what we've got. if benzema proves more popular and his owner gets the best stick to use a gun in army and is never "it" when playing tag then we know a swap deal for us would be most fruitful. pretty much every problem in life can be solved this way.

If we could get Benzema on loan then great. But would not make sense to buy him as we have a zillion top young strikers coming through that will save the club a lot of bread. Vidic has to stay though. He scares the shit out of the opposition

well i'm still failing to understand Uniteds resentment of a player who you didnt try and sign. You were interested but didnt bid. Real Madrid paid and got him so i dont see the problem.
Don't listen to a few muppet and think United fans in general resent Benzema, he would be a fantastic signing. One that would truly thrive on the quality of our midfield.
The thing is that any fool can reccomend signings as they 'cost' nothing - it's letting players go thats the hard part, letting go of the emotional attachment and the hope and the promise.
Think of Fergie's 'no big buy over 26' policy (which I have alway agreed with, it's no new thing for me) and then ask why doesn't it work equally for sales as well?
