If not FDJ, then whom?

Because we ain't gonna play FDJ Eriksen and Bruno as 3.

Why? Teams walked through our midfield playing McTominay & Fred last season.

de Jong
Eriksen - Bruno

We'd actually be able to keep the ball with Eriksen & de Jong, and not panic when under pressure.

That midfield gets mauled by any semi serious team

Trust me one of them will still be starting for their legs. It's unfortunate but it's how it is if we don't sign Someone else

Why?

de Jong is best at #6 anyway?

Ajax got to a CL Semi Final playing a 3 of de Jong, Schonne & VdB, it's a pretty similar style midfield. It's about pressing and working as a unit.

We look even worse defensively than we are because we have so few players in the midfield that are comfortable with the ball.

People keep going on and on about De Jong, but I really think that in terms of Barcelona, we should be trying to sign Levers.

Not quite.
We have signed a 3rd choice left back for 15m
Have faith. Liverpool signed Robertson for £8m and he’s become one of the best FB in the league.

I fully expect Malacia to become our first choice LB very soon.

We can get Ruiz/Tielemans and Sangare for £55m tops. That is still less than what FDJ would cost us and we can use that extra bit of cash to get a RB too.

Say we did also get Martinez to play as a CB and get Eriksen on a free too, that's That's our defence and midfield strengthened massively compared to last season. We then just need a RW and get in another forward if Ronaldo leaves. Easier said than done though...

Hopefully we still make it stick despite the noise, but would be the next best options.

Neves at £70m+ sounds a horrendous Fellaini type situation. Very good player, but that feels a big drop off for the same money.
We could always go back to the Vidal thread?

Neves. Would be my choice and that would be another reluctant one . Erikson comes in I'd rather keep the money until the right one is available. See us before bying to appease the fans it's a rocky road we need to avoid from now on. There are easier signings out there they are not good enough or ETH feels they don't fit.

All that in one window, no chance easier said than done like you say. Imo once or if FDJ gets done the next one is a RB . Then he goes for whatever else he wants. But that could even be January. 3 to 4 windows needed to sort out who he needs.

There is another 6 weeks transfer window left by the weekend and if true FDJ is finished by this weekend, who knows what will happen in those 6 weeks?
TH may have seen something in training that he likes in what we have already, or there might be anther leftfield signing like Malacia comes in to play in midfield.
No one knows what the budget is as no one before the window opened knew we were going to sign Malacia, so these media experts who reckoned we had £120 mill only are only guessing. I dont think Utd operating in the transfer window are as open as they once were.
