Nunes I've seen talked about a lot, sounds like an interesting option. Same as Kone, stat wise they look good though I haven't watched either.
Soler has looked promising for years without taking the step up. I wonder why? Could be a very sensible transfer, especially considering Valencia aren't in a terrific state at the moment.

If fdj transfer doesn't materialise then switch our focus to defensive midfielder and hope that we can bring eriksen in and ten hag get's something clicking between 2 out of either him, Fernandes, van der beek, fred and hannibal in a midfield 3 along with the new defensive midfielder.
It’d be a bit of a gamble but Maxence Caqueret fits the mold IMO. He comes deep to collect the ball, he’s press resistant and an aggressive defender. Perhaps closer to Ander Herrera than De Jong but definitely has a bit elegance and ability to carry the ball that Herrera lacked.
Panic and tears and maybe buy a proper 6 for cheaper and spend bigger on ST/RW and a RB.
I have no idea how we’re gonna line up now that we have Eriksen and Malacia. Most logical I can see is Bruno and Sancho as the wide men, a new 9 or Cristiano, and Eriksen, Fred and De Jong in midfield with a back 4 and VDB covering for them, but if we buy Antony I’ll be confused.

I really don't see how Eriksen and Bruno can play at the same time. Maybe ETH will invent some new false 9 role for Bruno but otherwise I can't see them playing together.
I think we need a proper 6 much more than FDJ. Fred or MCT can't do the job and they proved that year after year. We need a Rice, Neves or Ndidi to balance our midfield problems and get us some muscle and energy. I think we should upgrade on both Fred and MCT and use them as back up but that's highly optimistic.
We will get FDJ and by the weekend I think. We cant be starting either Fred or McT regularly again, otherwise we wont move forward. I wonder if Martinez is being bought to play dm? Martinez FDJ Erikksen/Bruno for midfield maybe.
If we can't sign de Jong I'd be very worried about going into this season.

Honestly the more I see De jong wages maybe we are dodging a bullet. he is clearly a mega talent but to join united surely he would be on ronaldo money, and could he realistically deliver on that?

Definitely a much better option than Ruben Neves. The standout young players are obviously the two Barca players (Gavi and Pedri) and Bellingham. For the former two, I guess the top clubs just wait for Barca to go bankrupt, but seems a lot of noise around Bellingham to Liverpool/Madrid next summer.
I'd honestly rather sign no one than spend loads on a Neves level player. See what ETH could do with Mejbri.

A lot of us are assuming he will play in a double pivot, like he did next to Schone at Ajax. If that's true we are looking for a very different type of player than if Ten Hag fancies him as some kind of Dutch Busquets.
IMO you would be targeting two very different profiles of midfielder depending on what function you think they will serve in the system.

What I don't get is how we are only talking about signing one Midfielder. It's literal madness to not buy two starting Midfielders this Summer

It's pretty hard to find a similar player. Which is probably why ETH is going all out to get him. You can only really find bits and pieces of what De Jong can give with his passing and dribbling ability in other players.
I would go for Ruiz. Use the money saved to target another striking option if Ronaldo leaves and right back. Ruiz might be around half the price so it gives a lot more leeway, but clearly he's not as good.
