ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Not a good start to the WC. If Pak don't step up then there is a clear gulf in quality in top 5 sides and bottom 5. Combine that with scheduling one game a day to result in good games being far and few. In fact some like India England that happen at the end of round robin stage may not even end up mattering that much.

Also it has the be said that with T20 becoming the new norm, watching one sided ODI games is just a massive chore.

Even though I disagree with your general point, its hard for ICC to do this when the BCCI and big 3 command a large chunk of the total revenue.

I think Crappys right. ODI cricket will fizzle out. Plus, the associates and minnows stand a better chance in T20Is.

Again, they were a crap team then? And what are they now?
Mate you have no idea what the win in 99 against Pakistan did for the sport.

Since the start of the 20th century, football has been the number 1 sport in all of the eastern sub continent ( bangladesh, WB and the 7 sisters). Old men who fought in the world wars could explain the offside rule but couldn't tell you how many balls there were in an over of cricket. The only reasons that Cricket has ANY relevancy in bangladesh is due in small part to Ganguly and largely beating Pakistan in 99.

I don't mean to disrespect Bangladesh in any way. I just don't agree with the fact that their national team has improved since its introduction into cricket.

Sri Lanka played their first ODI in 1975 and (from what I've read) they showed real signs of improvement by th 1992 WC. 21 years after their introduction, they won the prestigious tournament.

Bangladesh played their first ODI in 1986 and 21 years later the famously beat India in the WC. 12 years after that, if they were to beat India again, it'd be just as shocking.

Again, I love the sport and it'd be amazing to see more countries showing interest and participating. However, I do not believe throwing them into the World Cup is beneficial to anyone. There are just far too many dead rubbers and pointless games. Heck, even some former WC winners are fast becoming useless.

For instance, I don't think theres a single individual who isn't routing for Afghanistan. However, after todays absymal showing, whats the point of them being in the tournament? Unfortunately, theres a huge issue with ODI cricket which I don't think will change any time soon.

T20 is probably the way forward.

Thats what we do mate, helping teams realise their potential one world cup at a time. From Bangladesh to Ireland to West Indies. We are not the hero cricket deserves but one it needs.

I hear cricket is a good sport, will have to give it a serious look. Any suggestions on whom should I support?

What's with the scheduling in this tournament? Why are India playing their first match against SA on Wednesday after SA have played twice already?

Day 4: South Africa vs Bangladesh
Another toss gone wrong. Feck sake

Someone needs to tell Mark Nicholas that he has to shut the feck up when the third umpire is going through the DRS process.

What way are these fixtures? South Africa played Thursday today and Wednesday against India, which is their 1st game.

Why isn't it india and Bangladesh today?

I see you beat me too it.

They've also left a lot of good games to bear the end when they may not matter as much.

England India
Engaland nz
Aus sa
Nz aus etc

WTF are you talking about? Bangladesh are fecking shite.

20 years ago they were a shite minnow that could cause an upset. They're still the same fecking team.
They are giving South Africa a game. If this is what you are talking about by smaller teams not being entertaining then I have a different meaning of the word entertaining than you.

They mightn't win this game yet but they've value for their place in the competition already. They've certainly looked better than 2 of the established teams in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

SA look average in all aspects of the game. Not even the same fielding side. Bangladesh should be looking for 370 here.

They've got some really talented players but they're still a bit of a minnow. Lets see how they fare in this tournament.

feck me we are dreadful. This year just gets worse and worse in terms of sports.

Bangladesh 190-2 in 30 overs.
It's been great to watch. Their rise in cricket over the last decade has been monumental. Quarters in the last world cup, Semis in the last Champions Trophy. They are a real advertisement for how allowing smaller teams into the world cup can change the dynamic of the sport in that country.

Spot on.

They can realistically beat any of the top six and it wouldn't be considered an upset.

Sri Lanka were an outlier. Bangladesh would be the norm in term of progress for a sport looking to expand successfully.

Cricket would be in good health if we had 6 more teams and consistently looked to expand. As it stands, it is going the other way.

No no, they are still the crap team they were before and should be kicked out of the world cup. Right @Di Maria's angel

Indeed, few years ago they would have been all out by now, they've shown great improvement.

Been great to watch.

I didn't say they should be kicked out. I said its largely pointless adding in teams who aren't good enough. The quality of this World Cup has been really poor; what good would it achieve to have more rubbish associate teams? By all means expand the tournament with more quality teams, but there are none out there.

Bangladesh have 5 wins in the WC against non associate teams in 20 years (34 since their inception). They've had a shed load of talent over the last 10 years but what have they achieved? Forget winning tournaments, they're hardly impressive in bilateral series'.

Edit: they showed far greater improvements from 99 to 07. From 07 to now, they've not really gone anywhere. When they beat India and SA in 2007, you felt that they could rise into a really good team but they haven't (yet).

I liked having the associate teams at the World Cup, even though they seemed to regularly beat England

Bangladesh at risk of blowing it here.
