ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

As a cricketer yourself, you'd know well. Better teams and players do have bad days.

All well buddy!

All true. Just think you don't fluke winning a tournament in a format like this.

And glad to hear it.

It's a knockout tournament - the best team in the tournament is the team that wins it.

Nope. Knockout tournaments are the exact opposite of what you are saying. Any team having a bad day will go out.

People were crapping on NZ to have flukes through and yet see where they are.

Yeah Knockout tournaments aren't the best judgement of the best team. Largely because no matter how good your team is, Australia always win in the end.

How so? NZ have bowled and caught brilliantly. But the bizarre batting mentality we've shown through the tournament was going to hurt us at some point.

What do you mean? Rohit and Kohli should have got out early in previous games to give exposure to middle order?

But yet the team that holds their nerve when it matters most will win the tournament. India did well in the group stage but have bottled it in the semi-final, or at least it appears so.

In a knockout tournament, yes I agree you can have a bad day and go out, but if you have a bad day and go out then you don't deserve to win it - you're not the best team. The best team is the one that keeps winning up to and including the final.

Less than 200 needed now..
Does anyone know the D/L totals if it rains? Looked like there are some clouds around.

To be fair, India has been the best team in this tournament, regardless of how this will finish. This is an anomaly.

Might as well just give them the World Cup hey? Let’s forget the fact that knockout sport brings its own challenges... ridiculous comment.

No, but neither have played out their natural games when they had the opportunity to do so. That mentality sticks and stays. Kohli especially has got himself into a 'backseat' role this world cup. That's not the role a prolific Kohli is expected to play.

Provided the calculator I'm using is right at 20 overs:

If India are 4 down they need 90
If India are 5 down they need 122
If India are 6 down they need 156

Oh yeah.. 10 between those 2.. forgot.

Still weak links.. Should probably be getting a few of those out of the way from one end while the pressure is still on.. attack from the other..

They did finish top of the league. This is, unfortunately, a knockout game. The format should be like IPL. Team finishing top should be getting 2 chances in the Semis. New Zealand just made it to Semis on run rate.

How is it a ridiculous comment? There is a proper league table in the tournament mate. Ofcourse the knockouts count more, but for 90% of the tournament India have been very good.

Yeah.. looks like we are well behind at this stage.

No indication of rains f.wiw.. just saw some clouds and was wondering.

Irrespective of what happens here I am so happy that Rishabh has come in here and proven that he properly belongs at this level. Looked so comfortable while everyone else has been jumping around

I am waiting for the youtube videos telling me how the DK catch was not a fair catch and how it had touched the ground... with poor quality/low res zoomed in screencaps and a lot of shouting.

If you've followed sports closely random teams can win knockout games. Best teams win League competitions.

Ridiculous comment, sure!

Everyone seems to like the the IPL's format, but as a neutral I've never been a fan. Nothing worse than seeing the teams in the first qualifier playing each other in the final again via the second qualifier route.

It is fairer and I can see those with a dog in the fight like it, but I'm glad we're not using it here. My question is more whether the round robin format itself is the most suitable. But we all know it was designed to guarantee a minimum of 9 India matches rather than for actual cricketing reasons.

Is that because of the 2007 World Cup?

I wasn't watching cricket at that point but I've seen that mentioned a few times.

The pitch has some spin in it.. and the spinner isnt even on yet..

This is not going to be easy for India.. No room for error..

Could someone PM me a stream? Never had to find one for cricket and Google is surprisingly unhelpful.
