You are right bairstow could have just stayed quite atleast till the NZ game. Jumping on the gun at this moment makes things even more worse. Now there will be added pressure on them to do well this sunday, lose that and I can bet the likes of Vaughan, KP will eat them alive.
However, I still think KP's comment about Morgan was unwarranted and the fact that he went on to mention that again did not look right, but somewhat personal. Anyways Bairstow should just carry on with the game and concentrate on beating India and NZ.
Dont worry Sri Lanka fans, put some spin on and our batting will fold like laundy from the dry cleaners.

I just don't think Bairstow should have said anything as he doesn't come across well at all and has absolutely nothing to gain here.
Whatever crap comes from KP's mouth is unlikely to be warranted, however the criticism was still about cricket. Don't give legitimacy to his comments by responding and use it as motivation.

Bairstow is totally in the wrong IMO. A bloke who retired from my company a few years ago works part time as a steward at Derbyshire CCC and he says he's seen him throwing stuff around the dressing room in tantrums after getting out, in his pre-England days obviously. He's got a lot of the fiery ginger about him.
He seems to forget that the media in this country have done nothing but build up this England team over the last 18-24 months, while they've been playing well and most of the reports of suggested that the host nation would be tough to beat at their own World Cup.
It's not the fault of the media that the team have failed to live up to expectations and Bairstow is pretty stupid if he thinks that (one of) the pre-tournament favourites can lose 3 group games (possibly more with 2 tough games to come, which may dump us out) and get an easy ride.
I can't think of a sporting equivalent where such a fancied individual or team could have such a poor start and not have questions asked of them. It's up to Bairstow and his team mates to go out there and show that their dodgy patch is behind them. Obviously the Roy injury has had a negative effect.
I hope he's had his wrists slapped by the powers that be because I think it was a very silly move and he's only heaped more pressure on him and his team mates.

Quality test batsman though
The quality below the top 4 is really poor this year. Not sure if it’s my imagination, but I feel like almost all the teams were better at the last World Cup. The only teams that feel stronger this time around are England and India
All eyes will be on Saturday's and Sunday's games. The one thing I'm scared of as a Pak fan is that we'll take our eye off the ball and Afghanistan takes advantage. The other big one to consider is that it's NZ v Aus as the day-nighter on the same day. Hope Australia can do the business which keeps NZ honest for their game v England.
The India v England game is the one where I'm genuinely not sure on the outcome. It could literally go any which way. Roy being back, a new Edgbaston top to replace the spinning one in our game on Wednesday, India's flakey middle order are positives for England. On the other hand, the undoubted class of Kohli more than makes up for their inconsistent middle order and their bowling (much as it pains me to say considering our history with bowlers) is genuinely world class and is the most complete with Australia's.
I think much will depend on who wins that toss. Whoever bats first will have the advantage. If Kuldeep and Chahal can extract anything at all from the pitch however, then that is a very tough ask for any team.

Yeah it's why Pakistan are favourites, agree with what you are saying but the factor you are missing out on regarding England is how low on confidence they are now. The team has taken a big hit in the last week.
Pakistan will romp home against Afghanistan, I also wouldn't worry about NZ being honest against England, I'm sure they would want to beat England regardless. But by that stage anyway it will likely be in Pakistan's hands as at worst by the time they play Bangladesh they will be just 1 pt behind England.
Agreed on the confidence aspect. I didn't want to say the dreaded 'b' or 'c' words but it's getting awfully close to that point with England now. It's a massive shame really, I was really rooting for them to go all the way as it would have been the perfect lead in to this summer's Ashes.
Tbh mate, I'm a pessimist at the best of times. I was even thinking SL would be a threat right up to the 25th over in today's game. If Afghanistan had a halfway decent batting lineup, or even just had their fat wicket keeper, they'd be a live threat. Those spinners of theirs are absolute quality, and along with Kuldeep and Chahal, make me long for the days when we had genuine spinning threats like Saqi, Mushy, Arshad Khan, Saeed Ajmal, and so on coming through back-to-back during the course of a decade or two.
The Bangla game would ordinarily have been a toughie as well, but with them playing India before the game I think it would be a dead rubber for them so won't have anything to play for but pride.
I just hope that the players are taking each game as it comes and giving each of Afghanistan and Bangladesh the respect that they deserve.
In contrast you had Sachin question Dhoni's innings against Afghanistan but Dhoni being Dhoni kept quite and carried with the game. Maybe Bairstow should have done that.

Ikram at no. 4 with a top score of 11, Nabi and Najibullah down at 6 and 7 with Rashid later still. I think they need to sort their batting order out, Rashid later as a finisher is fine but generally-speaking their better batsmen need to be in earlier.
Afgan have done well here. If they reach 40 over mark with less than 5 wickets down, their lower order can do damage in last 10.

SRL can't catch them, Pak and Bangla can at most level them on points. Pak's RR is just too shit to make it over them, they needed a big big win today to compensate but that does not look likely at this point. Bangla would also need big wins and big losses for NZ to overtake them on RR.
