ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Just couldn't help himself

I can't believe we have better fecking bowlers than batsmen.. How the team has turned in the last 15 ish years..

I know India have a long tail, but i would like to see them go with Dhoni at #4, Hardik / Pant at #5 & 6. Then bring in Bhuvi. Just imagine that bowling attack - Bhuvi, Shami, Bumrah, Chahal and Kuldeep. 50 overs of top class bowling. Looking at how well Shami is bowling, would be unfair to drop him but Bhuvi was very good pre Injury. I know it’s a bit of an overkill since Hardik can bowl and has done very well but it will be fantastic to watch 5 quality bowlers having a go, especially if the pitches continue to provide some assistance

I think Duncan Fletcher deserves good credit for that. i remember one of the first things he said when he took over in 2011 was to have 3 or 4 quality pace bowlers and we are reaping the rewards now. We have some good fast bowlers now and there are some in our domestic circuit who should be tried after the WC. Bright times for Indian Bowling I would say.

I would always say, India bat second they can chase anything down.

But batting first, seems like it suits their bowlers to defend a lead. Nuts.

Those kids in the Under 19 WC were pretty good too, hitting mid 140s at 18 & 19. Heard Nagarkoti (?) has had a few injury problems though

Been injured for the last 18 months unfortunately.

Partly also this world cup, flipped it the whole bat second and chase down anything on its head. Bangladesh I think are the only team to have chased a 300+ score which I would have said was insane prior to the tournament. That said India do have the best bowling attack in the tournament.

I think Shami and Bumrah are a better pair than Bhuvi and Bumrah. Bhuvi is more about accuracy and movement off the seam whereas Shami has the X factor, the wicket taking ability

Cricket or t20? Two separate things.

They had good crowds even for test matches against England recently. Their board is a corrupt and incompetent one. They still are a good side who can play more than decent cricket and are producing some entertaining cricketers, just need some grooming.

Not sure about that. I'd say this is all kohli. Dhoni did a tumescent job of managing fast bowlers and he was the guy with Fletcher.

Haven't seen these recent tests. It's just that when I see old footage from the 70's or 80's the stadiums are absolutely packed. Nowadays I see a bunch of empty seats in the stadiums but yeah I missed the recent ones so not sure.

Absolutely. Kohli has backed his bowlers from day 1. Dhoni also wouldn't have gone with 4 specialist bowlers who can't bat at all I think.

I'd open with Pant and bat Rahul at four. Rahul despite the scores hasn't been impressive for me.Dhawan Rohit partnership works cos Dhawan provides the impetus giving Rohit the time.

I agree with this. Kohli is already having to come in with a low score on the board, but with a run-rate that needs accelerating and not too many overs on the board. At least with Pant he'll try and score a few runs up front

Shami showed this kind of form in NZ and Oz too. Was man of the series in NZ infact. So I was surprised he was dropped straight away for Bhuvi. He has made it tough for Kohli to drop him now but think they will stick with Bhuvi since Kohli trusts him more in crunch situations.

Would be a terrible decision in my opinion. Shami gets wickets and they're invaluable. His bowling average is 10 less than Kumar's.

Doubt Pant has the technique to face the new ball tbh. He’s good at hitting them long but I doubt he’ll be effective if the ball moves around a bit

5 bowlers against England, let’s see how much they score
As tempting as it may sound I am not tto confident having Bhuvi at 5 down, especially even more now with Dhawan's injury. Only if Chahal and Kuldeep could bat like Ashwin and Jadeja :wenger:

the runs are definitely not pooran out of these two. pretty sunil the RR will be too much.

Don’t understand why Hardik was brought in so early. Should have kept Shami on for another over or two.

I’m glad Kohli’s changed to win the toss bat first and let the bowlers win the game. If the opposition bat well first after being put in you’re screwed. No matter how good your batting lineup or the pitch, chasing 300+ in a pressure game is very difficult. Like what happened in the Champions trophy final against Pakistan

Agree it’s a pretty long tail but I think with that bowling attack, even a 250 will be defendable. Facing 50 overs from top class bowlers won’t be easy

May sound funny but our batting may actually enjoy batting second and may play more freely. Having said that, I would prefer batting first in every match and asking opponents to chase against this bowling.

White new ball does nothing and technique is massively overrated. If the ball was doing a lot someone like Rohit would be in big trouble too, but he does fine as an ODI opener.

I get that but on flat pitches Shami can get hit for a lot. Ideally we would be able to play both but that would mean dropping a spinner. Good problem to have in any case.

Not sure how they're surviving this. Four miscued shots dropping just near fielders.
