That is unfortunately why I can't see England winning the World Cup .

In a similar situation I don't see us holding our nerve and scraping a win. We just implode.

Fantastic match, way better than the much anticipated India vs Pakistan. Hopefully this makes the management think about the purpose of having both Shankar and Jadhav in the squad
 
I think India should persist with Shami, he may go for runs but he has this ability to take wickets. Bhuvi has been very good too and so won't be fair to drop him but Shami looks really good
 
Very good game. Credit to nabi and Afghanistan bowlers. Bumrah showed why he is the best and shami was brilliant.

Great time for us to have a mid-tournament reality check like this exposing our weaknesses especially with the middle order. One game Rohit falls early and that's what happens. We have enough time to make the tweaks and ensure we go with the right team. Shankar should not be playing, especially if he's not gonna bowl as well. Let's give Pant a chance vs Wi and see how it goes, but our no. 4 hole will remain one way or the other, hence the top order staying during the initial overs is absolutely crucial for us even if they don't score fast. Rohit is our most valuable batsman, can't have him getting early or we'd always be in trouble especially with Dhawan not being there as well.

Good response from our bowlers under pressure, defending that total in this day and age takes some effort and tough mentality.

There's literally nothing they need to think about. Shankar has played at four in one innings and done ok. Jadhav has one innings and scored a 50.

All our fans do is whinge, whinge and whinge. Drop chahal, drop Rohit, drop dhawan, drop jadhav. I'd keep them all as is. We may not win this but this is the best team we've taken to a world cup. I'd play exactly this 11.
 
Afghanistan always raise their game against us, they're the opposite of Pakistan in that respect.
 
We were shit with the bat but credit to Afghan bowlers, Put up more fight than Pakistan.

Would this have been the biggest upset in WC history?
 
The problem with this ridiculous format is that it is impossible for smaller teams to progress. Even if Afghanistan had managed to win this, it wouldn't have made much difference to overall standings.. Made this game far less tense than it could've been

That's a way too optimistic way to think about it. Even Kohli said we were 20-30 short of a par score. Anyone else than Afghanistan would have chased this down. No matter how slow the pitch, no excuse to score just score 49 off last 10 overs. Shankar has shown nothing as an ODI batsman to deserve a spot at 4. If you rate him for first class performances etc it is another thing but he does not even has a ODI 50 as of now. Like @Moby said there are no good solutions to this problem as of now since we completely bundled the last year or so. Don't want to rehash that old debate so for now it will be basically down to giving Shankar more chances and hoping he comes good. With Jadhav, I think people underrate him as a batsman. He kinda got stuck today against spinners but in the past he has played well for us. Not using him as a spinner does reduces his value though. Worst case scenario for us is that Shankar flops couple of times more and then we barely have enough time to blood in Pant or try Kartik before the semis. Let's not forget we could not even compete in CL 2017 final because our middle order could not survive after the top 3 fell.
