I am still not a fan of batsmen getting blamed even after his team scoring 300 plus. I get Hopes could have accelerated and maybe scored more. But even then 320 is more than decent and considering Bangladesh just finished with more than 50 balls remaining, even 350 won't have been enough. It was just a case of pathetic bowling. Hopes cannot be blamed for that.
I don't think he's selfish, he's just not very good. He's got a career SR of 75, so it's just in line with his capability.

It's not fetish, it's a fact that chasing 300 plus in WC is not easy. Yes it will be done once in every 5 matches but still it is extremely difficult to chase if one bowls well. What happened today was a case of some substandard bowling and some class batting. But play this match again against a good bowling line up, you will get a different result. Again, I AM solely speaking in WC terms. Yes chasing 300 nowadays is much easier but even then in a WC it can become a different ball game.
If your strategy relies on the opposition not being good enough or being consumed by the moment, it's not a good one.
The reason Australia were so great was that they didn't give a shit about the opposition. They had the best bowling attack in the world, and they didn't come to the conclusion we'll score 250 and they will crush under pressure. No, they smashed 360 in a WC final against India.
Again if it is that easy why couldn't england chase down 340 odd against Pak , considering they were able to do that just a month prior. Or why couldn't australia chase 350 against us when they chased a similar target against us not so long ago. It's not something unreasonable. You need to bat out of the skin and hope for some pathetic bowling to get over the line in WC.

Ofcourse I would want India to score as much as possible and not just restrict themselves to 300, never said or meant that. Just stating that chasing 320 plus in WC even in this day and age is not that easy like some think it is.
England should've chased it down. Butler & Root were on the way to pissing it, but England made some stupid mistakes it. They didn't crumble under the pressure.
Australia's poor strategy cost them. Warner's scratchy innings made it difficult to get close but even they got 300+.
360 was the par score for this wicket - it might not have been enough but it would've changed the equation. The openers are under pressure to get going right from the start. Tamim wouldn't have been allowed to settle in the first 6-7 overs. It makes a huge difference in my opinion.
It's a problem when most of the other batsmen are going at a 100+ strike rate. Including his own team mates. Hetymer's 50 off 26 in the end was just enough to make up for Hope's own ball deficit.
I know you need someone to anchor an innings in an ODI - but not at that speed. The likes of Root, Kohli still go at run-a-ball and secondly they at least constantly rotate the strike.
Anyone think Bangladesh have any chance of getting a result against India or Australia? Don't really follow cricket much outside world cups so not sure what their recent results against those teams are.

That's a crazy way to look at it. No, they were never "pissing it". Stupid mistakes were just the extra risk of trying to go for so many big shots catching up with them. It is not easy to chase 300+ scores consistently. This is a tedious argument anyway. WC games do bring extra pressure but we should see more 300+ scores being chased down in this tournament as well.

Losing Jason Roy is such a massive blow to England's chances . Even though they said that it's 2 games the reports seem to suggest a much longer absence . England had zero depth already with Hales out and Roy is just so important to this team

Honestly, I have no idea mate. The problem with the WICB is that there are too many different bodies pulling in different directions. You see clear favoritism with respect to certain players based on their nationality (Nurse and Braithwaite) among other things. It’s like if you had to make a European football team, and the constituent members were trying to get as much of their own country’s players in as possible.
No idea what the chances are of an overhaul, but I can’t see it happening. Our best bet for any kind of good team will be a good crop of players coming through, players that can succeed in spite of the management in place, rather than because of it.
