I actually like the guy. Sure he's arrogant as hell but what a player.
Never liked him. Not as a batsman and not in terms of his personality.
Preferred Steve Waugh personally.

Here is the most important news boys....
I am going to the Mohali Semi!!

Actually I'm talking about the time where there was a brotherly feeling between the two teams and cricket was supposed to show the way. It was nice for the bilateral ties I guess but the cricket was bland.
Compare that to the 1996 semi final. That was crazy.
Where is prateik?
I guess thats true to an extent but the feeling on the street has very little to do with the state of the political relations. For me, most of the excitement was lost because we were playing each other so often. Its tough to get excited about winning when you know you're going to be playing each other enxt week again.
Yeah there were way too many bilateral series going about in early 2000s. Yeah the that was Dhaka final. The series with 3 finals. We chased down 326 or there about in pretty dark conditions. You don't remember the games in the 90's? We played Pakistan a fair deal and it was fecking incredible.
I remember when Hrishikesh Kanitkar hit a boundary with us needing 3 of 2 balls. One of the rare wins back then. I hope my memory is not failing me.
If India handles Umar Gul with respect, I think we're favourites. We're the one team in the world that can play their spin attack the way it should be played.
YES
Great game, congrats to Raina and Yuvraj - stunning!
India v Pakistan - need to turn the pakis over, haven't played them at home for a bloody while.
Lol treat Gully with respect, and what about the others? Afridi? Ajmal? Hell, even Akhtar... Atleast 35 overs of your innings will be spent "paying respect" to our bowlers. If you do that, you'll lose.
I actually cannot wait for it. Remember the last time we played you in Mohali? Younis Khan's century![]()

Tendulkar smacks Shoaib around
First came a six, then a four, then divine magic

Centurion, 1 March 2003
Sachin Tendulkar has never batted better than in the World Cup of 2003, and during it never better than for three famous deliveries against Shoaib Akhtar in Centurion.
This was a match Tendulkar said he was compelled to live a year in advance. Everywhere he went, people reminded him about the 1st of March, the fixture against Pakistan. Consequently he did not sleep properly for 12 nights leading up.
Facing a handsome target, Tendulkar shed his pent-up anxiety with three strokes in Shoaib's opening over to jumpstart a classic innings. The first of them - reaching out (were he not so pumped up, he would have surely let it pass for a wide), at once cutting and tipping, very high over the square third-man boundary - would become an icon, for cricketing merit; its sheer thrill, and nationalist symbolism, a sort of belated rebuff to the Miandad six.
The second stroke was his lovely trademark - back in the crease and with swirling wrists diverting a reasonable delivery to square leg. But the third shot - the third shot.
A little trot across to off stump, block, down the ground to the on, four. No back-lift, no follow-through: none needed. I have never seen such a concisely expressed cricket stroke. He simply met the ball and the entire execution began there and finished there. And by now the crowd, the most vividly alive of the tournament, had gone quite wild. Visually it was like a cinematic special effect: everything moved in a blur - flags, roars, horns, waves, the ball, Shoaib - and amid it Sachin and his pure stroke appeared magically frozen.

To be fair Gul is a league above the others.
I actually remember that...
Was in Dhaka in the Asia Cup if I'm not mistaken..
Was a shot to deepmidwicket/long on by the left hander against a spinner I think to win it..
I even remember Sachin getting out to Saqlain in that game....Scored like 40 something ...
Not sure why I remember that game so fondly, but maybe its cause its one of the times that a 300+ score was chased...back then, it was rare!
Amazing someone else remembers that game too!
wasnt that the match where there umpires wanted to end it because of bad light but the batsmen stayed on and refused to go off?Yeah the that was Dhaka final. The series with 3 finals. We chased down 326 or there about in pretty dark conditions.
I disagree, Afridi has really grown as a bowler, he's not just getting the wickets against the minnows, its SL, Aus, NZ. He might not get as many against India, but he will definately squeeze the runs, aswell as Ajmal.
Gul just needs to keep his rhythm, he is absoloutely crucial to our hopes.
Must say though, your middle order is in serious need of form, Yuvraj apart. As does our middle order, save for Asad.
I do remember that. An Asia cup final or something wasn't it. Anyway, this one's going to be epic. To begin the build up, i'm going to remind everyone of one of the greatest moments in world cup cricket.
We don't have a middle order. Apart from Yuvraj.

I'll back the Indian batting line-up in a battle against spinners...even class spinners any day. They only get me nervous when when they're playing genuine pace in bouncy conditions. A collapse always seems around the corner.Lol treat Gully with respect, and what about the others? Afridi? Ajmal? Hell, even Akhtar... Atleast 35 overs of your innings will be spent "paying respect" to our bowlers. If you do that, you'll lose.

Tee hee... Sehwag and Sachin will take on Gul no doubt about that. Plus we have played Afridi plenty of times.Lol treat Gully with respect, and what about the others? Afridi? Ajmal? Hell, even Akhtar... Atleast 35 overs of your innings will be spent "paying respect" to our bowlers. If you do that, you'll lose.

Thats just absurd. Kohli's looked in fine nick...was very crucial in the West Indies win. Yuvraj as you say is in great form and Dhoni can alwasy grind it out if the occasion demands it. Its the lower order i'm worried about - Raina and the tailenders. Harbhajan and Ashwin need to be able to add those 30-40 runs when needed.
Can't wait for this feckin semi.. India v Pakistan, been waiting for both of them to feature like this in a genuinely huge match since was a lil boy. I reckon if Pakistan play with genuine effort, no fixing involved.. they can take it, their bowling is stronger and they're a side who can think on their feet better than most. However India's batting lineup is very strong, they're the more disciplined side and they're the home nation.
I think.. I'll back India.
I think Pakistan have punched above their weight in this tournament. Still, respect to them with all the issues which have clouded the country and it's cricket.
Yeap.. Sohail being bowled by Prasad. One of the sporting moments I will never ever forget. We've played some great games. One of my favourites is the Jadeja game. Those incredible last five overs of the India innings. Then Pakistan's flying start and Venkatesh Prasad's incredible comeback. Great stuff!
