ICC Champions Trophy 2017

Australia should blast their way through this. Rain is too risky

Nah, they aren't chasing this down in less than 20 overs so might as well make sure they play the 20 overs needed for the result.

9 more overs to get in. Looks like it will be touch and go. This left/right combo isn't doing AUS many favours. Just play the ball back to the bowler and save time.

Are you advocating not having tournaments in England?

I love it when England holds tournaments, whether cricket, football or rugby union. The UK has a sporting culture and history that is unparalled. No other country in the world can match the rich sporting culture that the UK has.

However, cricket is a sport which gets affected by rain, with matches getting shortened or abandoned. That is not the case with football and rugny where they play through the rain.

It's a pain but it happens. There's only two choices and the preferable one is to have tournaments here and hope for the best.

They should keep more reserve days. It'll stretch the tournament out but that's better than these things being decided on the weather.

Hosted ODI World Cup 5 times (75, 79, 83, 99, next in '19), Champions Trophy 3 times (04, 13, 17) and T20 World Cup once (2009). I guess they'd swap a few of them in exchange for hosting Football World Cup

It was, first time I'd watched cricket ever and Saeed Anwar and Shoaib Akhtar were my favourite players.

I bet the weather will pick up post tournament. And yeah they were great to watch. Can't beat watching a bowler who can hurl the ball close to a 100mph. It's why I love watching Starc...he's a proper fast bowler.

Is the Aus-Ban game washed out? And why can't they apply D/L method for games more than 10 overs? Why is 20 overs a thing?

Edit: Confirmed. From espncricinfo:
9.18pm Match Abandoned Move along, nothing left to see here. Australia's valiant quest to score no runs in four overs has fallen heroically short. Cricket's cat's cradle of nonsensical regulations is the runaway winner of another farcical evening! What japes!

Australia could be end up getting eliminated without losing a single game

England vs. New Zealand today. NZ won toss and elected to field. Can't see a full match with the forecast so it's important England start well as a shortened match already suits the side batting second, even without a low target being set. Would be nice to see Roy bat himself in to a bit of form and guarantee progression with a win rather than relying on the weather or other results.

Would be hilarious

I wouldn't find it funny. More annoying but there's not much you can do about inclement weather. Reserve days, making 15 overs constitute a match instead of 20 might be things to look at in future. Even so, the circumstances are going to be pretty simple - it'll win or bust vs England and i'm confident Australia will win.

You can't do much about the weather but I don't have much sympathy for Australia after watching their batting approach yesterday. Most radars were indicating that 20 overs would be touch and go, yet Australia were playing as if the weather wasn't an issue at all. Left/right combo throughout the innings, taking loads of singles and forcing mass field changes, Warner with his 'open the gloves and take the sting out of the situation' approach before every ball etc. Australia were light years ahead on the par score for 20 overs, it's not like they needed the runs. The situation required being cynical and making sure they passed the 20 over mark and I don't think Australia showed any real urgency.

I didn't see Australia's run chase so i'll take your word for it regarding how they approached the chase. In the end, i don't see it being terminal for their hopes in this tournament because i'm confident they can beat England later on this week.

Most Australians don't really care for it anyway.

Not on Free to air tv, middle of winter plus NRL and AFL in the middle of their seasons which dominates the media

Buttler has pulled it back for England here now. NZ slow over rate?

I've found it a hard tournament to get into for the reasons you mentioned plus i see the Champions Trophy as a tournament for the sake of a tournament. It's not like the winner is deemed world champions like the 50 over World Cup or indeed the world hit and giggle. My lack of care for the tournament will remain the same if Australia win it.

Its just to get extra tv rights money from india.

My afl team had a bye week and yet i honestly still did not care about this tournament. Especially when the french open is on.

I've been watching the World Rugby Under 20 Championship while this tournament has been on so my care factor for this tournament is very low.

When did Luke Ronchi opening become a thing? The guy is a decent at best batsman.

I think it's a combination of New Zealand not having the depth to pick from that some of the other nations do (although what they do have is very useful) and if you look at his stats, he has a handy strike rate across all formats. He's an ideal opener when chasing over 300 in an ODI although obviously it's not come off for him today.

Why isn't the DRS being used in this tournament? It's an integral part of the game now. Quite strange to see contentious lbw decisions by the umpire not being challenged by the captain.
Is it not? I could've sworn I had seen it used.

India probably didn't want it.

There is, seen it used

They're using it. Third umpires are even explaining the whole decision process on the stadium speakers which is cool.

England need a wicket. These two could make this look easy. The rest could make it look quite different.
