I was wrong about Casemiro

I hold my hands up and admit it.

I initially thought Casemiro was a glamour signing to appease the fans after the Arnautovic and Rabiot debacle earlier in the summer transfer window, a player on a steady decline. How wrong I was!

He is literally the CEMENT in our midfield which holds it all together and has given us something we have really lacked in that department for years. Credit to Ten Hag who must have encouraged the club to jump on this opportunity when it presented itself.

he’ll finally be able to retire, knowing his career is complete. somehow, i don’t even think he’ll mind not winning a world cup. not now.

I said the moment he signed for us, he'd be like to us what Makelele was to chesea. People get too caught up with the negative media spin on things who were determined to act like we bought some 38 year old washed up player who was coming here for a pension plan payday.

Create a thread of its own to let us know thanks

Remember when McFred played what felt like 200 consecutive games

*shudder*

I suppose I should have posted in the performance thread in hindsight, but given the stark differences in reaction across the board to his signing, I'm curious if anyone else who thought like me has also changed their opinion?

It's OK, we see similar every day.

I fully believed Casemiro was the man, the step up from McTominay and Fred is so great he couldn’t be. It’s the same as when Bruno replaced Pereira and Lingard as our number 10. The step up in a deficient area was so great. Our midfield was dogshit and mid-table level and then you buy a player who bossed Liverpool a few months earlier.

In general though it’s a lesson not to write off players before they even play. Everyone deserves a chance. I understand people being naturally negative after some of our shite signings in recent years but it’s easy for that negativity to get in the way of rationality.

finally landed the big one. ronaldo will be seething after this and the messi world cup debacle in the same fortnight.

Honestly don't understand what the feck some people were thinking. It's fecking Casemiro. Look at what he's won at Real Madrid, and he's literally a player that changed their fortunes and balance the second he went into their team. He transformed them and gave them balance when before they didn't have it.

And to add to it - it was a star signing in the 1 position that we've neglected for years. Ronaldo was a big name glamour signing where it if ored every single gaping hole in our team, hoping he's good enough to overcome that. This was literally addressing our biggest problem with arguably the best player in the world in that position, along with Rodri. It was a no brainer.

Thank you for this considered point. I was definitely wallowing in negativity when this signing happened

Being burned so many times by our signings in recent years did that to me, but I'll try not to let that cloud my judgement next time.

You beat me to this! I wanted to make a thread where people could apologise to Casemiro.

Is Souness also opening a separate thread or are you sharing?

Aside from anything he does as a footballer, as an influence he is just everything you could ever want in a role model.

It just goes to remind how little football most here watch outside of United matches.

Reminds me of Carrick. I initially though Eriksson would fill that gap but Carrick was really underrated when it came to cutting off passing lanes. Casemiro takes it a step further and really commands the midfield. Top top player and will leave one of our best midfielders ever given the time he had left in his career (which is still some way to go tbh)

Honestly with him and Eriksen in midfield I get Keane and Scholes vibes.

Casemiro is easily the best CM we've had since Fergie left. Absolutely world class and calling him a DM is a disservice as his all round game is fantastic
