The only one I wanted was Ten Hag. More than Haaland. So I’m happy.
No one knows what the budget is or even if there actually is a strict number. Don’t believe everything you read.

I blame Covid, corrupt politicians and whatever else there is to moan about. People love to feckin moan and bring everyone one else down with them. I'm always up to watch a United game, always hopeful the players will run through a wall for the fans, been disappointed many times this season. Very much looking forward to a few new signings hopefully for their tour of Australia or to get to watch the likes of Hannibal, Garnacho etc stake a claim pre season and see what Ten Hag is trying to implement playing wise.
Flight tracking is a lie anyway. The plane will always be ahead in position. We're basically looking into the past. If you want to track flights, get on them and actually post updates to RedCafe whether you see the player or not.
I prefer small day today and then boom Andreas Pereira returns. It helps with managing expectations.

If we don't make at least 4 signings this window to cover problem areas, particularly midfield, then it doesn't matter who the manager is. Missing out on Bissouma is unforgivable, Nunez I can understand due to the price but 25m for Bissouma and we are not interested is criminal.

Yeah but the window only just opened guys, you can't expect the club to have deals lined up before then, it's a well known fact that you can only start talking to players and agents when the window opens...duh.
Truth is, there should have been a list of players already compiled when Ten Hag was announced, if he went through interview stages etc I'm sure he could have given the club some clues as to what type of players he'd want.
From there you start talking to players, but we've seemingly had our collective heads up our arses and have just fired everyone behind the scenes instead, a ready made excuse for this seasons abject failure I'm sure.
After the season we have just had, we should have had deals lined up ready to go, but no, we're left chasing high profile players, also we can only negotiate to sign one player at a time.

I said several months back, before we announced Hag, that I’d rather we got Hag and no transfers rather than Haaland and a poor manager. I stick to that. Actually I’m still pretty chill about the upcoming season. Wanted ETH to see a new direction and style of play and he’s here. Whoever come or go. This season will be all about how we play. Good managers makes great players. Any additions will further improve his style.
I'd argue the biggest factor in Laporte stirring the pot is that he knows that United have no scouting department and are limiting their talent pool to players that have worked/scouted by our current manager.
That is why fans are rightly complaining.
To be clear I don't give a toss about signings, United fans know signings can be superficial and merely paint over the cracks, what I want to see is our set up become the standard of a multi billion pound organisation, the club has burned through 10 years of goodwill, that's gotten us to our worst ever season, it's about time standards are raised and the heat turned up on those in charge.
The apathy shown by a group of fans has lead us to this situation, cheering on mediocrity isn't supporting the club, clapping mediocre managers who are failures is only doing the hierarchy here favours by giving them excuses to keep the underperform players/managers for as long as possible.
Do you think Madrid fans booing and whistling bad supporters? I think back in the days where the sport was a working man's sport, cheering the players on would have been a good thing - but this generation of players are multi millionaires who care for their brands more than the fans, they couldn't give a feck about you as long as you keep buying their merchandise and liking their posts.
Cheering these multi millionaires who have been told since before they were teenagers that they can do no wrong just perpetuates their ego and they'll assign blame to everyone and everything else - and the "stay positive at all cost group" are giving these players an out by blaming the fans who actually care for the club.
I agree with most of the stuff you’re saying. But this is not about “staying positive at all costs”. It is about making judgments over our transfer business. A successful transfer window entails two aspects in my view. First and foremost is getting in the right players. Secondly, is getting them as early as possible. And I worry that most fans are only focused on the second aspect.
If you exchange our window with let’s say Spurs right now, I would rather be in our position where we’re going for targets (FDJ being a world class one at that) that our manager wants rather than players which theoretically represent great value. If at the end of the window, we aren’t happy, we should make it known through whatever ways the fans want. But judging ourselves as failures or successful, had we done our business, is the sort of fickle opinion we should guard ourselves against. Last summers window had us believing that we’ve struck gold.
I know I say this and it’s unlikely to make any difference to most of our fans who just want to oscillate between we’re shite and we’re great.
Regarding comparison with Madrid fanbase, I do agree that our fans, especially the match going ones, have allowed a lot of shite to be normalised. For us to have reached a situation where we were battered by our closest rival at our home and the manager being still allowed to continue will possibly remain a nadir which the fans and the board should be ashamed of. But that’s neither the point of the thread nor what I meant with my latest post.
There’s a difference between “staying positive at all costs” and making ourselves mentally ready for the beginning of a new phase. We are a large online fanbase where extreme, childish and immediate reactions gain a lot of traction and are then amplified as the voice of United fans. Throwing toys out of the pram before even a pre season match is kicked off for a new, promising manager is not the sort of fanbase we should aspire to be. But that’s purely my personal opinion.
Now this is what forums are about, reasoned debate, unfortunately "the positive side" and "the negative side" are too busy laughing at each others opinions and points get lost in a sea of green smilies and they get defensive and stuck in their ways.
I take your points on board about not swapping our business with Spurs, and I have actually compared our business (not only transfers) with them recently, but they're getting players in that their manager wants and I think that's the point - while we appointed a stop gap waiting for Ten Hag (the right choice of manager, and I hope to god he's a success) they took action immediately after seeing their summer decision backfire by hiring a good team (Conte and Paratici) that changed their fortunes then doubling down and signing two good players in the January window, resulti in top 4.
Now that is what I'm complaining about and where I think we'd agree on too, our future planning has been abysmal, there should have been a style identified and players scouted and talked to who play that style, now if Ten Hag came in and had a list of 100 players that are similar to his style of play and the ground work had been laid for transfers, this summer would have been a much smoother one, as it is, we've left it too late (I know the transfer window has only just opened, but deals are normally talked about months in advanced) and are targeting only players the manager knows - this weakens our position.
I think this summer will be a bit of a let down transfer wise purely for the fact its down to the manager to identify the players, but as long as the powers that be at the club get their act together and start planning three or four windows in advanced, we'll be in a very strong position in the near future, I just have my doubts about the competency at United, this is where my negativity stems from - though I wouldn't say I'm a negative person, just say what I see.
While City is able to sell some no-namers in Bazunu and Lavia for almost 30 mil, the best we get is some loan for Hendo, and nothing for the other deadwoods.
I agree completely. We don’t have a footballing structure in place. Everything prior and including this transfer window has been either manager led or based on vibes. There were some scouts who were let go at the end of last season so it was always unlikely that we would see a structured approach during this one. It may improve beyond this season but expectations remain low. Hue and cry over haphazard activities this time around shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
