I hope Brighton get promoted out of the Premier League

So what you're essentially saying is that they are the Dortmund of the PL without the European pedigree?
They're not comparable outside the "hipster club" status, really.

Despite Dortmund's status as a bottlers, even outside their European Cup they've been far more successful domestically than Brighton can ever dream of, and should have even won a title in the last 10 years weren't it for their aforementioned tendency to choke.

Dortmund and many others of course like to profit on their players; difference with Brighton is that it's their one and only purpose, and they have 0 ambition to be anything better.

Brighton, or more specifically their owner's SOLE purpose in football is to profit from whatever talents they can sell to other teams, using the club as its vessel to do so, and you can't really argue otherwise. They've never won any trophies of note, they've never won the league, and they never will. Their owners, the board, nor their fanbase will never aspire the club to be at that level, even for a short period of time. What matters is the profit they get from flipping players like Caicedo, and rinse and repeat with that profit. Clubs with similar stature in city and stadium size have previously won titles and domestic cups so that's not really an excuse, either. (e.g. Deportivo)

A completely pointless, useless club that won't be missed by anybody if they disappeared tomorrow. Being our bogey team is just the icing on the shit cake.

...And with that out of the way, if we were a better team today we would've beaten Brighton. No real excuses for the typical late goal to lose it.
They just spent £200m in the transfer market with more to come, so there's clearly some ambition to progress at the moment.

The fawning over them and De Zerbi last season even when they were in diabolical form was pretty nauseating though, I'll give you that.

There is nothing wrong with them.

They didn't even raise their game (not that this would be a bad thing) they were rubbish.

Midtable teams don't need to raise their game to beat us.

Won't happen anytime soon. This new coach looks pretty decent.

They kept attacking and got rewarded unlike plenty of mid table teams who fold up shop when drawing with united. One of two things, their plan was to attack late in the game or united have just lost all the fear factor they ever had and teams know it and take advantage.

Understand the frustration, but hold the bus; we lost the game today
because our expensively assembled defence completely went to sleep in injury time.

Their starting back four and goalkeeper today cost around £3 million. Ours, that switched off, quite a lot more.

Of course Brighton are ambitious. It's ridiculous to suggest otherwise. In 1997 they almost went out of business. Since then, they've built a new stadium, climbed the leagues, established themselves as a Premier League team, reached two FA Cup semi finals and qualified for Europe where they topped their qualifying group. All whilst trading at a profit and appointing managers committed to playing attacking football. If that's not ambition, it's at the very least significant and sustained progression.

It's frustrating that we keep finding ways to lose to them, but they're an impressive operation.

Not game raising though, we just gifted them two goals. Both teams kind of hapless today.

Their crowd were also very quiet for most of the match, we didn't face any rousing atmosphere either, like a local cricket or bowling match and then they get an underserved gift a the end.

Martinelli hasn’t been great for a while.

Brighton have never historically been that big a club. In the 90s the previous ownership really screwed them by selling the old Goldstone Ground and they were about 20 minutes away from dropping into non league and possibly folding.

Even after surviving they had to play at Gillingham for two seasons and then an Athletics stadium with 6k capacity for another decade so they had pretty much a generation of support locked out and unable to watch.

In 22/23 they qualified for Europe for first time in their history and were a penalty miss away from making FA cup final so I think they can reach those heights again in next five years and going by their size that is very good going as that's eluded historically bigger clubs like Leeds, Sunderland, Sheff Weds for many decades now..

There’s no doubt about it. There’s no reason to concede that goal. A championship side wouldn’t.

Can’t falter Brightons success. I can’t stand the “we are massive” crowd and the ones saying they will win the league this year.
Brightons second goal
I’ve seen this so much in the last few years. Probably 15 points lost because of this

I'm back on their side after they've had a 'back to earth' season. Hoping the new guy manages to get things back on track after it rapidly went south under De Zerbi.

I was actually wondering earlier if it was worth a fiver on them to win the league - decent squad and they should be capable of doing a Leicester, but less spectacular obvs.
I’ve been thinking the same!

I remember last season they hammered us, and next game West Ham absolutely tore them apart ..
Maybe against them, we have to play a different style ..?

they are always brilliant despite changing their manager every year

I think they'll maintain their status as beaters of football. Doesn't get much better than that.

I didn’t even think they were that good yesterday. And before our goal they could have been 3-0 up (chance cleared off the line & hitting the bar). I just cannot work us out.

I love Brighton they are such a good football club with a specific style of play which is easy on eye and modern. Plus they always have the eye for talent to bring into the league, stop being petty.

Another day we win that game. Was just unlucky. ETH doesn’t help with his ridiculous subs. Keep Fernandes on… he’s most likely to contribute to a winner than Mctominay.

Brighton are a great little club. Structure works, recruitment is excellent, they don’t spend a fortune - things must be good because managers shine there.

They’re an example of how to do it. Were the fecking opposite, or have been….too early to damn INEOS just yet

I would miss them. I think theirninnovative ways to punch over their weight are very refreshing and an inspiration for other clubs on the smaller side of the spectrum.

My god you lot eaten a bunch of sour grapes or what, Brighton are a small club with a nice compact stadium and are well run.
We only have ourselves to blame for not getting a point yesterday and to behave like a bunch of spoilt prats because “little Brighton” beat us is really pathetic.
Any one from another club reading this thread will piss themselves laughing at the immature level of self pity.

Brighton didn’t even play well. No game raising happened. United just gifted them the game.

United yesterday reminded me of Chelsea actually, where teams don’t need to work particularly hard to get a goal against us.
