I genuinely think Beckham would be a great signing.

Beckham's an absolute fecking country mile behind Carrick at this stage in his career. He'd be killed in the PL if he came back.

Hmm, maybe not, but still miles ahead of Carrick and Anderson. We brought Scholes back, what kind of message does that send out?

Fair enough Carrick has played better these last couple of weeks, but Beckham is still better, even at the age he is. Class is permanent.

There isn't enough bandwidth available for the number of laughing/Houllier smilies this deserves.

He's in the Emirates at the moment. Commentators speculating he might be there to make a deal.

He often trains with Arsenal or Tottenham doesn't he, and he is obviously from the area. Wouldn't surprise me either way.

Sentimentality. I'd always thought it was the domain of the old.

Surely a wind up? Either that or you've been infected with retard syndrome.

Would be nice to see him trot out, maybe even clear the first man on a corner, but he's no longer a player who can add to a team pushing for the league.

At 36 years old, he'd still be the best crosser of the ball, the best passer of the ball, the best freekick taker and the best taking corners in our team.

Doesn't say much for our team then.

What? a bit nasty that is. Ok tell me in what ways is Carrick a better footballer than Becks? Yeah he is younger and can probably run around a bit more, and I'll grant that Carrick is probably better at breaking up play because that is all he does. Is that it?

Well, Carrick is a regular starter and key component of one of the world's biggest and most successful football teams, whereas Beckham regularly performs poorly for one of the world's weakest and least successful football teams.

It's not difficult to understand which of the two is the better footballer, as it's obviously Michael Carrick.

?.

That he regularly performs poorly.

Perhaps 'poorly' was an unfair choice of words, but he certainly doesn't set the world alight over there, he's a big fish in a small pond at best and at worst he's a unproductive showpiece. There are probably 200 football teams in the world who're each better than LA Galaxy, they're Championship level, and David Beckham fits in alright at about that level, though his star is fading fast; compare that level of football to Michael Carrick, who has a starting place for Premier League Champions and Champions League runners-up Manchester United, and you can clearly see which of the two is the better footballer.

The comparison with Michael Carrick is a gigantic joke, they are completely different players and in this United team Carrick would be 10 times more important.

But I think Beckham regular performs well over there; he doesn't move as much as he used to, but he was an important cog in the LA machine. They won the Supporters Shield in '10 and '11.

I'm just responding to Stookie's madness. Beckham's performances for LA Galaxy are a real mixed bunch, he can often look a generation behind his teammates and the opposition.

Couldn't harm our midfield now! Would bring the average age down a bit too!

;)

There wa so much fawning over him on Talkshite last night I was nearly sick.

Lets review the facts - 37 years old and has been playing in the equivalent of the lower leagues for the last five years, other than the odd few game spell in Serie A - the slowest league on earth.

Was a top player, but evidently past it at the top level. They had Marc Bircham (ex Port Vale and team mate (!) at Galaxy) on talking about how in the PL there are no players who can do what he does - "knocking 30 yard pin point passes". This is because nobody plays like that any more.

Hopefully does off to Oz - I'd hate to see him back in the PL looking a shadow of his former self.

I wouldn't be too against this idea IF we didn't already have Scholes and Giggs. I think he could have a good impact in the short term somewhat like Scholes last year but obviously to a lesser extent. With Giggs and Scholes still here it's completely unnecessary and would basically be a step backwards.
