How would you feel if Rooney smashed it at Everton?

United missed him when Pogba was injured. He’s been in top form. Simply sensational his third goal to complete his hat trick Lukaku could never do.

I mean, when a professional footballer gets a crack at a completely unprotected goal from around the halfway circle, with the ball rolling towards him and under no pressure whatsoever, it’s not exactly an outrageous feat of skill to hit the target.

Can't agree with that. Hit on the volley, from beyond the halfway line, and he keeps it down and on target all the way. I thought it was a great goal.

I was happy to see the back of Wayne as I thought his performances for us were uninspired. But I'd love to see a happy ending with him showing he's still got something in the tank.

It wasn’t a volley. The ball couldn’t have come to him any more perfectly. It was a very good goal, like I said, but nothing like the goal for the ages it was hyped as by Savage et al.

He hasn't been playing, barely making the bench. And he has been dreadful any time he has played.

Robbie and Wayne must be best buds because, from what I've seen, he takes every opportunity to flatter him.

It might not be a goal 'for the ages' but it's better than 'very good'.

I think he’s like that with all England internationals. The knots he was tying himself in to try and absolve Hart of any blame for two very poor bits of goalkeeping was comical.

Aye, similar to Savage’s ludicrous pretence that the first goal wasn’t a nailed on penalty.

It's the technique, not the feat. Very few players of all time could strike a ball like that.

What are you smoking pal? It was better than beckham or his last v west ham. The ball coming at him makes it really fecking tough.

Such a sweet hit.

And that pace to get on the end of the second. Not bad for a 48 year old.

And he ran the show.

Shit player though.

might have 'reviewed his lifestyle' since the birthday kerfuffle, moving much better than he was

great technique to score that, not genius level, but very good

Lol at people downplaying his goal.

I’ll like to see Lukaku do anything half as good as what Rooney did.

He just doesn’t have the technique. Morata would have been a much better signing for united imho.

I think it could have come better towards him. He was moving slightly to his left as he was running up the pitch and had to check that a little to come to the right and it cramped him up a to a small degree which is why he doesn't really follow through after he's hit it.

The perfect way for him to come onto it would have been if he was running decidedly left to right the whole time so he could open his body up and curl it with loft with the inside of his foot and exaggerated follow through like Beckham free kick. That would have made it easier.

That said, I agree it was hyped up a touch. Got a feeling it won't be my goal of the season when all is said and done. I don't watch much besides United these days so it might not even be the best so far.

Not sure if serious? Anyone who’s played football knows that a ball rolling straight towards you is the easiest shot to strike hard.

It's interviews like the one he did after the game tonight which is why a lot of United fans don't view him as a legend I suspect, after all the great goals he scored for us he so flippantly called tonight his best ever

Dunno why but it annoyed me

Hard yes. But that straight and true? Nah. Not easy at all. "Anyone who's played football" knows that.

He’s not viewed as a legend by some fans because of interviews where he talks about his goals? Lol GGMU

Im sure he scored the exact same header from a penalty rebound against City in the FA Cup a few years back.

3rd goal was a lovely goal.

both views are right in a way

with the ball coming straight & at some amount of pace, he doesn't have to thrash at it to get the distance, is possibly what Pogue is getting at, but it is very nice technical execution to control it so flawlessly

So the fact that he underrates some of his previous wondergoals is a possible reason why some don't view him as a legend? That's bizarre...

Think about it, he’s been written off by many. Tonight he scores 3, with that strike to seal the hat trick. Many have tried it and failed. I’m sure he was buzzing

Based on? Morata hasn’t scored in many games either. This is just a case of grass is greener on the other side

Glad he's gone. Glad he's doing well. He doesn't have long left at the top level unless he gets a crazy drive to work harder from somewhere. That's why it was so hard watching him running around here messing everything up. He's been a really top player in the past and he still has it in his locker to win games for his team.

He seems to get it together when a new manager is on the cards. 5 year contract from Moyes, United captaincy from LVG, hat trick and a worldie infront of big Sam tonight, who was grinning like a Cheshire cat. Leading of course to Danny Murphy protesting he should never have been dropped. And the cycle continues...

 People keep on posting the same shit every day. Did you check Morata's goal scoring record? He might be bit pleasing on the eye but he creates less number of chances than Lukaku.

In the last 11 games (that's when they stopped scoring), Morata has 2 goals and 2 assists, Lukaku has 1 goal and 3 assists.

Wayne vs Moyes is like battle of the (man united) bastards
One of them is our leading goalscorer and someone who spent his career here contributing to a feck tonne of trophies. The other turned us into a laughing stock within a year and is probably our worst managerial appointment in history.

I can totally see how they're both lumped together, absolutely.

How so? Rooney was shit in his last few years granted. But he was a very good serving and I wouldn’t describe him as a bastard. Moyes was just shit.

There’s no comparison.
I'm not a big Rooney fan and this comparison still offends me.

Have you watched game of thrones? It's the title of one of the episodes where one of the bastards is universally liked (kind of)

Ah okay, got it. Slipped out of my mind!

Ok, put it another way. Would you find it easier to kick a moving ball rolling across you or away from you instead? Besides, he wasn’t threading the eye of a needle. He was kicking the ball into a completely un-guarded goal. Which is why I think everyone is getting far too carried away. Usually goals like this involve getting the ball up and back down again over a keeper who’s strayed a few yards too far off his line (e.g. Rooney vs West Ham). That’s way more difficult. It’s very very unusual for a player to have a crack at goal from the half-way line with the ball sitting up nicely in front of him and the idiot keeper not even in his box. You’d expect most half-decent players to hit the target in that scenario. His technique was basically the same as most of the cross-field passes he used to hit to Valencia, with more margin for error.
