How Much Do You Miss This Man?

well, speaking as a huge fan of Jacquet you are indeed! You have stated in great detail what this man has to say, so please dont bother about posting from the book. I bet we have quite enough of it already. As i said before, self serving!

King Eric once said, 'You need a special talent to want to please everyone. I dont have that talent'</strong><hr></blockquote>

This discussion tires me. I'm not a big fan of Jacquet, I just respect him. He just had a choice to do between Zidane and Cantona, who has been better for United, where he is a hero, and I'm glad about that, than for France. And that's a fact. Still, I prefer Cantona, because I like his personality, although I like Zidane for his reserve too.

Just like Blanc has been better with France, where he is very respected, than with United, and he's criticized in England.

People just see at their doors, they don't have a general perspective. He just paid the price for too many 0-0 in 1994-95.

BTW, Ginola didn't play the World Cup too.

why dont we agree to differ!!! (and it seems you are still trying to convince me what a great manager Jacquet is by making the RIHGT choice of dropping Eric!)

I feel bitter and unjustified over Eric's missing out of the his International duty , and let it be that way, please!!!!! And please dont reply to this post, if you dont mind. REST ASSURED I WONT AGREE WITH YOU over Jacquet, end of!!!

My point was just :

1) I think Cantona is a very great player, but Zidane is even better technically speaking.
2) He wasn't dropped because of a "personal revenge" but for other reasons (question of balance of the team). That doesn't mean I don't like him, on the contrary, or that I approved the decision. At the time, it made me angry. After, I've understood it, not liked it. Don't let me pass for a Cantona hater.

Anyway, what's better, to be a United hero, a personality both admired and controversial, or a almost "anonymous" world cup winner like Diomede or Guivarc'h ? <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

No, I agree, but "miss" is a feeling most of you probably still have, and it is not nostaligic in any way. It's madness.<hr></blockquote>

To 'miss' someone for his special talents or aura in the past is equivalent to deep nostalgia.

Perhaps you feel the nostalgia for Cantona's past achievements but simply hate the 'miss' word. That is understandable for someone who prefers not to be too emotional, or to wear the heart on his sleeve. I don't know if you fit this description.

This thread is clearly a tribute to Cantona, and not an insult to the current players. Neither does it indicate a diminished support for the current team by the author of the thread. Most of us know Cantona is history, yet deep in our hearts, he lives on as a great Man Utd player. Those photos bring back beautiful memories of Cantona when he was a Man Utd player.

The spirit of Cantona lives on, at no expense at all to the current team. The current team has enough talent and strengths to even go beyond the achievements of 1999. Occasional dabbling in 'Cantona-nostalgia' wouldn't harm our team's performance or diminish our support.
