Why?

That's the same sort of rubbish Houllier comes out with.

I think it's unfair to disregard the influence Cantona has had off the field. He inspired a whole generation of players and fans.
Its easy to make the comparison on paper between what we won with/without him. But drawing a conclusion from that would be silly in my opinion. Cantona wasn't just about what he did on the field, it was his whole persona, which is why I miss the guy.

1) List what we won with him.
2) List what we won without him.
3) Compare in your mind how much we have really missed him as a player on the pitch.
4) Post both 1, 2, and the conclusion you make from 3.</strong><hr></blockquote>
I have to say, I was well chuffed when your boy Cantona hung up his boots.
I thought that would be the end of your reign.
Needless to say, I was pissed off to be proven wrong.
I suppose you have missed his sublime skills but you wouldn't have succeeded any more or less had he carried on.

For the purposes of my argument, could you explain why?

It's a different topic, this thread was in response to the other thread vs Ruud, and that was regarding what happens on the field, who you would rather have it came to it.
It's a madness, if I was old enough I could say that I wished that Duncan Edwards still played for us and wasn't killed, but I'm not, and those that are old enough don't say that either. It's in the past, forget it on a direct football level.
Some gits in here seriously still dream that he would hang up his beach wear and come back and play for us. It's a joke!

no you tool, i think people mean, miss the quality, miss the player that cantona was. Cantona now is an over-weight movie director, which is sad, but still. I know that i meant i missed him, as in, the player he was, the quality, i miss the quality of someone like him in our side.

I think it was actually in response to my post <a href="http://www.redcafe.info/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010908" target="_blank">here</a>, eh Ste?

That is madness. He's had his time. It would be wrong for him to come back, but it doesn't stop me missing him.

Nobody exists like him! Stop dreaming!

Its not a dream. He's making the point that he misses a player of Cantona's unique ability!

Missing him, or missing what he was?
Either way, hold onto those great memories, because that is what they are - great, but don't miss him, don't live in the past, support what we have and don't wish he was here in that, because if he was then you would have a lump of lard running around the field.

Nobody is living in the past. Cantona is gone, but not forgotten. Maybe the point of thread has swung the wrong way, but surely nobody is calling for Cantona to return or is saying they wished he still played for us (I'm certainly not anyway). What happened, happened, there would be little point in us whinging that we wished he was still here.

You've just said it "unique ability", but it has gone, face facts and support what we have now.

Don't question my support for United. That is not the issue. See the post above.

I'm not questioning it, all I'm saying is that nastalgia is one thing and current events are different.

Yes thats what he was, unique. It's gone. I'm certainly not questioning that.

Kinda. I don't wish he was still around because I appreciate what we have now. I am simply expressing my acknowledgement of what a great player Eric was

He's not a robot, players come, players go. Thanks for their contibution, sing songs about them, but they cant last forever. It's a fitting tribute to eric that his songs are still sung at Old Trafford, in fact it's amazing, as I know of no other player in history that gets such treatment.

True legend. May be the best ever player who pulled on the no.7 shirt for us. Still remember how he single-handedly got us the PL and FA Cup in 1996. Truly magical and miracle.
