How do we sell Harry Maguire?

Do you want him here next season?

Errrrm. I think he could still be of use as a squad player, but he needs to find form again to be anywhere near the starting 11 (assuming we buy some CBs)

I wouldn’t be against selling him either though. I think he’s a system player and this system (whatever it is) doesn’t suit him at all. He looks good for England and did at times under ole when we played deep and hit on the counter

Ok. That’s fair enough.

If he declines to leave and with the pay he's on do you banish him to the u23s? The only way I see that he leaves is paying out the remainder of his contract.

Who would even take him on a free, unless he agrees to Norwich-level wages? Just stop playing him and let him leave if he wants, or stay if he's satisfied with his career fizzling out. There's no reason to stick him in the team. He's consistently one of the worst players on the pitch, it's a colossal liability to use him at all. Inform him that he won't be playing again, so he can go if he wishes or twiddle his thumbs for two years, at which time nobody will remember he exists and he'll never get in any team after that long away.

Honestly it will be incredibly difficult to sell him to anyone now. Best case scenario is to count the money as a loss and just replace him. He can sit on the bench when we've no other options.

Give him to Everton. They look like they'll take everyone else's ol' shite.

Stick a price tag on him and show him in a cab to their ground.

I hope Ten Hag has the balls to tell the board that they signed a dud and he doesn't want to be lumbered with this oaf. Sell him to Southampton or Everton and close the sorry chapter on his sad United career.

I think we might find a suitor if we sell for 1/4 of what we paid for him. We might even get some clubs pushing for him to get a bit more. He would do a job at a mid table team.

Selling him for the salary we're due to pay him for the remaining years of his contract will be a win. Anything above that and we've committed daylight robbery.

He would easily fetch us £30-40m if we decided to sell him. His nationality is actually a positive, just look at the fee which was being quoted for James Tarkowski from Burnley last summer... £50m.

I just hope ETH doesn't fall into the myth of believing Maguire is a "ball-playing CB"

Was starting to feel sorry for him because of all the content I see on social making fun of him, but he's really poor as a defender and none existent as a captain. We won't get any offers for him, but he shouldn't be in our plans as a starting player next season.

Mid table clubs can't afford his wages !!

Another one who has a contract that could keep him at the club well in his 30s.

Who the hell thought that one of the slowest defenders in the league would be of any use this long?

I reckon there’d be takers at £15-20m just on the fact he’s an England international and our (hopefully former) captain. Teams like Everton or Newcastle will lap it up at that price. Newcastle can pay the wages too.

He needs to go though. No question. He’s disgraceful

Bet you for £50m teams like Everton and Newcastle would be all over him. We can easily get rid of him if we want but it will be at around a £30m loss.

What's he on per week? Even if we accept that we would likely lose ~£60m on what we paid for him, I doubt anyone will be willing to go anywhere near the wages he's on.

Seen the goals
The nerve of this prick before the game saying managers pick him because he obviously doesn’t play bad every week then proceeds to stink the place up. Another cnut that seriously needs to go.

There isn’t a single party (Maguire, the club, the incoming manager) who would not benefit from Maguire leaving the club this summer. At the very least the captaincy should be taken from him and he be dropped to the bench.

He’s here (Utd) for the long haul.

Who would pay as much as half his weekly £190,000 wage?

Newcastle is the only possible team that would take him and pay him a decent amount. It's either that or a Saudi or Chinese club. If you can't sell, just sit his ass on the bench for the rest of his contract.

But according to his lovers here he is the scapegoat of the team and actually one of the best CB in the league

I think if ETH comes in and takes the captaincy off of him he will look to move on, which would be ideal for the player and the club.

Take a hit - in terms of salary and wages. The wave against him coupled with his form makes it very hard for him to come back. The club just isn't brave when it comes to letting go. They're more likely to hand out pointless new contracts instead.

We should be the ones to decide.

We should, but the wages he‘s on I think we will have to force his hand to want to leave. Then again the Glazers would most likely sign him up to a new 5 year contract citing ‘the most expensive defender in the World means he’s the best’ logic!

I don't see why in all such cases don't we bear part of the wages for a few years. Paying part wages, recouping some transfer fee and not having to deal with the player is better than keeping expensive but poor player.

Thing with Maguire is, he has been a decent player for us/England in the past but he's now hit rock bottom and has become a complete meme figure. How you keep a player like that I'm not sure.

We should be doing as you suggest loan players out if they can’t be sold but we don’t for some reason. We just like to keep paying huge wages for them to sit on the bench rather than try to recoup money.

This is why we are in the shit we are in.

Hopefully with the new manager coming in we start to do things properly.

What we should be doing is saying to the next manager you have say a £100m budget, if you want more sell players and use those funds to buy. Ideally what the next manager then does is sell all the dross and fringe players and replace them with good first team quality players and use the academy to fill the gaps.

As for selling Maguire, we aren’t getting any more than 30/40m for him as the wages he is going to want from his next club only a very few could afford so the transfer fee would have to be reduced, plus we would have to pay him a big chunk to leave.

I think everyone would be happy with that.
