How Brighton BEAT Football

They were insufferable after beating us last weekend. I don’t care if it sounds petty, I’m glad they lost.

Beating football only exists in video games. Like taking a newly created team (Al-Bastard) into winning the Champions League with Maguire as GK.

There's this perception that United would be better off if they bought the entirety of Brighton as a club and replaced everyone we currently have with them (playing and non-playing staff).

The truth is this:
- what they are currently achieving wouldn't be close to what is expected at United. It'd be called a disaster of a season.
- they'd not even achieve that they have done under the sort of pressure and expectation that we operate under.

Making the huge step up to handling multiple competitions, including Europe, and then title challenging level would require a completely different approach to recruitment etc. I'd put my house on that exposing their scouting network / transfer business as severely lacking, and no doubt show De Zerbi to be out of his depth.

Basically, Brighton are doing great for what was expected of them, as expectations change they'll struggle to maintain this level. And when compared to what challenges we face at United, they're operating in a totally different environment.

Yeah Brighton winning the League Cup, getting to the Europa semi final beating Barcelona over two legs and finishing 3rd in the league last season would be considered one of the greatest achievements in modern English football. For us, it’s just seem as minimum requirement and one bad month of football to start the new one and it’s crisis and manager’s job under serious pressure.

It's probably a generational thing but their football bores me.

The 30 pass move for the second goal is lauded. But pass number 20 was still in their own half.

Watching a team pass the ball so much in their own half is just dull. It might be effective at draining the opposition but it's also bloody good at draining the spectacle.

What's draining the spectacle is the opposition being bitch scared, not looking to get the ball off them.

They're a good top half team but we made them look so much better by standing off them for 75 mins. People are now starting to see it on replay videos that we were just strolling around getting picked off. Said at the time Brighton probably won't have an easier away game.

The acid test for them is having Europe on their calendar. It’s a bit of a leap for a non-top club to do two games a week and there’s been plenty of teams over the years who look good playing one game a week but struggle to keep it up when two games a week is the norm.

They've had a really nice run from the lower leagues to the prem, facing difficulties with their stadium etc.

But they're the minnow some seem to think. They do have a billionaire owner, don't they, are are probably in the top 30 or so richest teams in Europe.

Preach brother, preach

They have an enormous problem with midweek games. This has been happening since last season.

Funny old game football.

When you are up it kicks you in the nuts...lovely to see it happened to Brighton the last few games, just to simmer the endless praise a little.

Welback raising his game against us leaves me a bit bitter about Brighton at the moment. Glad they're being humbled here.

 Who was it that was saying they were title contenders two weeks ago?

Edit: Andy Hinchcliffe, just seen the thread bumped.

They are just small time game raisers where they looked like prime Barca just against us.

Even if they finish 15th this season, what they’ve achieved has been impressive and worthy of praise

Yes the media and people saying things like title contenders are over the top. Dunking on them the second they have a bad defeat to a very good Villa side seems strange

A league with City, Newcastle etc. and football fans revel in the defeat of Brighton.

They lost to Chelsea. They deserve to be mocked for that.

Southampton had huge plaudits a few years back, finishing in the top 8 four years running. They're now in the Championship.

Leicester were praised to the heavens for a few years. They're now in the Championship.

Brighton haven't beaten football. They're just in a good period and will then return to the Championship.

Not strange given the hyperbole surrounding them.

So Brighton went from being in a title race to being out of a title race all within the first seven games of the season.

Guess it's time for another hipster team to take their throne.

Cannot compare with Leicester ..
Nobody can achieve what they did..unless you are bought by oil tycoons
