Gaming Hollow Knight - GOAT Metroidvania

Not sure if I can be arsed beyond the Soul Sanctum. Maybe I went there too soon? Random disappearing fireballng feckers coming up as regular enemies now?

It’s a fairly short area and I’d say probably one of the trickiest in the game. Stick with it.

Just run away from those teleporting cnuts if you have to.

Gave up at Soul Sanctum. It's too much man.

You can beat the game without ever beating that boss, the reward helps but is not needed for the main story. You can buy lumify lantern instead to get into crystal peak.

Don't really see the point. If I can't beat these early bosses no point of continuing really. Sucks as you keep thinking you are close and could beat them the next try only to spend another 10 tries and back at the same place.

Finished on 105%. Can't go any further than because the boss battles in The Pantheon are bastard hard.

Also, The White Palace was excruciating but in a good way. Haven't played platforming like that in a long time. Infuriating and satisfying.

Yeah those pantheons are a bitch and honestly probably take another 30-40 hours to get the last few percent. Most people who run the game only go to 106% for that very reason.

Ahhhh. I'm enjoying the memories being brought up by you lot. Yes the mantis lords and the 6 knights, feck me.

Game world seems huge right now. I know that probably changes once you know your way around.

I'm stuck on Nosk at the moment and losing my will to live. At some point he just starts spamming that move where he runs on the ceiling (so you can't hit him) and drops blobs and refuses to do anything else. He would do this move 5 times in a row, do one move on the ground where you can actually hit him and then do this move another 5 times around, rinse and repeat, until I'm dead since it's literally impossible to finish the fight. It just feels broken. Surely the fight isn't supposed to go like that? I spent a good 5 minutes surviving in that state but eventually you will die. You can't fecking hit him!

Quick nail and invinsibility frames was enough for me. Spam nail till he's stunned, then heal, then spam again. I might have found him late though so was well leveled.

There are I-frames? I don't have quick slash, unfortunately. I don't want to look up how to get it. I beat him now, just had to pray for good RNG, which I got eventually. I seriously dislike boss fights where I have to rely on RNG. He was never stunned though, maybe you're thinking of another boss.

I literally just got quick slash, it's neat. Don't know who or what Nosk is, so you probably missed it.

The spider guy? Maybe I might have been healing when he went out of screen. For some reason I really struggled to find any bosses and by the time I did find them I had opened up so much of the map and had great perks. The watcher Knights were the first to give me any real bother. The first 10 hours I had only found False Knight and the three sisters. I got the I-frame perk very early and it's been a godsend. No idea where I got it.

He's certainly very easy to miss. I think I found him by knocking out a false wall. I'm pretty meticulous in my exploration so I've already done several optional bosses and platforming sections while there are undoubtedly whole areas I haven't even visited yet, 40+ hours in. My progress is pretty slow.

I think I realised that false walls were not a rarity about 20 hours in. Looking at how much of the map was open and realising I was going to have to retrace the entire thing banging every surface was a low point. Then another came when I made the same mistake with floors.

The map markers are a brilliant tool that is saving me a lot of walking and would have saved me even more if I was smart enough to use them earlier. I thought they were just fun trinkets.

I finished with 105% and apparently I missed lots of secret rooms and I hit more or less every wall I could. It's a brilliantly designed map.

Cannot wait for Silksong which can't be too far now.

I need to get back to this and finish the last few bits - but what a brilliant game. Can’t wait for the next one. Liked the ending of this.

Man, that descent into The Abyss. Deepnest is a creepy place but this, this is something else. The atmosphere is so oppressive, it just feels wrong to even be in that place. And then slowly coming to realize what that place actually is makes it even worse. The world design and ambience in this game are exceptional.

I just beat Nightmare Grimm. That was certainly the toughest boss so far. I think the only place left is the egg and godhome. I'm still missing a bunch of charms from somewhere

I stumbled across Godhome earlier and noped the feck out of there. I don't think that sort of content will ever be for me. I also did the first trial of the colosseum and that was stressful enough.

I'm stuck on the 3rd Colosseum trial and it's not fun, the waves just keep coming and I have no idea if I'm towards the end of it. Each attempt is quite time consuming which is what really grates. I hope I can come back later with the best perks and full masks.

Yeah I think the best way to play this game is to give something a few tries and if it gets frustrating/unfun (is that a word?) try and see where else you need to explore to hopefully get some better charms and so on to make it easier when you return to it.

I only did the first trial and was already surprised at how long it went on. I expect the other two are longer and more difficult, so I'm not looking forward to those. I enjoy the fights but the thought of doing it all again when you die sounds a bit too frustrating and tedious. It's also why I can't see myself even attempting the godhome content.

I finished the game a few days ago after getting it for free over PS+. Really a masterpiece of a game and a complete surprise. Pretty hard though. Game is packed full of content compared to the price. I think definitely the best metroidvania game I've played since the Metroid Prime series.

Really good game. I just completed it at 107% with a pantheon, at 47 hours. I used a guide to clean up the last charms and fragments. I still have the trial of fools and the Godhome stuff to do. Might try the path of pain and see what else is left. I don't really know what makes up the 112% but I think I can get close. The Steel Soul mode looks a blast. If I can brush up on the bosses then I can see myself giving it a go.

I'm not a Metroid-Castlevania guy usually but this was great. The controls are super smooth.

I got some killer charms late on and I've just discovered overcharming, so I think the Colosseum is mine.

Nosk was one of the easier bosses I found. I just placed myself in the corner of the step which guranted he couldn't land on me and worked out the patterns and timings of his attacks.also allows me to hit him when he was bimbling about on the upper step.

That's what I did eventually as well, but his ceiling attack was still wrecking me because he kept spamming it. Once I got better rng the fight was manageable.

Edit: I should probably also say that if I'd had the shade cloak during this fight, I imagine dodging through the blobs would've made his ceiling attack almost trivial to avoid. I only acquired it afterwards.

The amount of content in this is ridiculous for its price point. I got it for free through PS plus but isn't its regular price like €15 or something? I'm on 60+ hours now and I still have quite a bit left to do in the base game. Add in the DLC content and the content v price ratio is almost absurd. And this isn't meaningless content like you'd get in a typical Ubi-style open-world title either. It's a steal either way. I think I'm just going to buy Silksong at whatever launch price it'll be, even if I don't have time to play it at that point, just to support these guys. They deserve it.

I was playing yesterday night and I'm so stuck.

It's the area when you see the Hollow Knight statue and meet that female character I fight a while back...

Then I'm introduced to those teleporting bad guys... How much longer do I have on the main campaign?

I can see why people love this and I've given it a lot of attention (and will try finish it) but Metroidvania just isn't my bag because I take long breaks between playing and always begin the next play through completely confused.

I think you still have a long way to go. You can use the progression route on Fextra, for directions when you feel stucl.

Nah I don't like using guides. I'll keep plugging away.

I bought the Switch and this is the first game I bought and I'm one of those guys that won't start a new games until I finish the current one.

I have Luigi Mansion, Mario Odyssey and Mario AllStars 3D just gathering dust

I stopped at the same area. It's the Soul Sanctum and the boss is tricky. I actually had a go after I stopped and beat the mini bosses, but the main boss is still left.

I think there are other ways to progress but you get two important abilities after beating them so should beat them.

I am 100% never gonna get much far in this game, so these days just give it an occasional go when I am feeling like dying a few times.

I just beat Grey Prince Zote, feck that was tough. It seemed such a random battle, it didn't seem like I was improving at all the first 5-10 tries. Now I've beat him once, I'm interested to see how far I can take it, but I've read you need to be almost flawless by the end. And this is already with the pure nail and unbreakable strength.

Nice one. I find him the hardest boss in the game in terms of avoiding his attacks, even harder than the true final boss. He has relatively low health though which makes him manageable, until you go back to fight him, then he gets stronger with each defeat. He's the one boss giving me the most trouble in the Pantheons.

I've started doing the Pantheon bindings and am eyeing a full completion. I'm approaching 60 hours now though so I might eventually put it down if I start running into walls.
