Herrera confirms his departure

Daniel Taylor being a run of the mill reporter? Really?
Whether he's high-profile or not is by-the-by, mate - I'd like to see more reportage than mere opinions dressed up as definitive truths.

I would like to wish him good luck but I dont particularly like PSG. He has been one of my favourites over the last five years, but then I am easily impressed by hard working passionate players.

I think he would have done much better under Fergie, or even playing for a team that hasnt changed managers and playing styles so often.

I mean he's quite a respectable reporter mate. He was the first one to uncover the Barry Bennell abuse scandal which makes him a great reporter for me.

Jesus christ when did Herrera become one of our most important players

The meltdown is truly laughable, he's been here for 5 years but delivered very little

Before anyone says....yes we offered contracts to Jones and Rojo, but should the club keep making the same mistake again due to this?

Time to move on and start build a squad together, I'd much rather give youth players opportunities than Ander putting in anymore inconsistent performances

Herrera is more popular currently. They also wanted Herrera to stay, while Valencia has been barely seen this season. At the end, it is just PR to calm down the fans and give them a goodbye from a player most wanted to stay, while clearly knowing most fans will blame Ed and the club.
Plus, by allowing Ander to leave in this dignified way, they hope he'll be less inclined to reveal any background chaos at United.

I am annoyed that he leaves for free.
Right decision to stop offering ridiculous amounts to players that are not among the world elite.

With Pogba probably also leaving and Matic more or less done it leaves questions marks how Ole plans our midfield.

It's absolutely bizzare that the club is making him seem look like a legend whereas Valencia is seemingly getting shunted out with nothing.

Valencia has been a better player and servant for United than Herrera.
Will we have to wait until Sunday. I image Valencia will get a great send off by the club - some sort of club award, get subbed on and possible a interview on the pitch.

Bye ander. You have been one of my favourite players for a long time. You are one of the few who showed actual passion for the club and played their heart out every game.

Good luck in the future.

Oh yeah, that's fair enough, and all credit to him. I guess I'm just tired of reading the Guardian, which now seems to consist of four million columns and love letters to Beyonce.

So check out most of his previous work. This is a tweet, place where there's little room for reportage.

That is a good observation Steve. I think there would be more to this than the club want people to know.

Stop spoiling my kneejerk stupidity with facts, chief.

It's crappy PR bullshit. Think it's more about showing all is well and good at the club. And you're right, Valencia has been a much more important player for us and a great servant, even though some fans have either forgotten or not seen all that he has done for us.

Exactly. It's as of they want us to accept mediocrity.

It is good that we don't sign him up and continue with our mistakes of signing ageing players on huge contracts I guess, but.. It is ridiculous that we let a player of his calibre just go for free. Would make more sense to sign on Herrera whatever cost and buy Sanchez out of his contract and let him go for free.

We should have sold him last summer or in January if we weren't prepared to offer him an extension back then. Ed sucks at this part of his job, really bad.

I hope we have a free transfer player in mind to replace him because we shouldn't be wasting money on the midfield when it's the attack that is so wasteful and a defence that leaks goals, also does that now mean with him going and probably being replaced that one of the rebuilding in and out spots has been basically wasted down the drain which might result in one less central defender coming in this summer whilst Jones gets another season at the club?

I don't understand why people keep saying that as if the club has full control over players signing a new contract or when to get rid etc.

If the player doesn't want to leave nor sign the contract extension, then there's nothing the club can do about it.

Simple.

Think this is harsh and I see him more as a 7/10 player who at least puts in the effort and seems to care about the result, but the point still stands.

Like Taylor but he is just wrong here. We are losing second midfielder for nothing and we have to pay big money to replace him. This is on top of having so many gaps in the team.

Valencia still can't speak English

Juxtapose with the curiously muted departure of RVP, mate.
Robin was just shunted out of the door. This club has forgot to be classy in some of it's dealing, unfortunately so have some fans. I don't like how Ander is being treated like a Paul Ince type. I don't think he was in a hurry to sign the contract when it was originally offered, why would he? It was probably just a foregone conclusion on all parts that he would sign. PSG are the problem here. They came in with an offer and Ander will have asked the club if they would match it. We have said no, which is our choice, so he has thought about his family and future and to be honest probably looked at the direction the club are going and decided it would be better to go. I do not have a problem with it and to be honest good luck to him. I think he will always have an affection for the club and the fans. Unlike others who stick the knife in at every opportunity.

And that tweet sums up his shortsightedness. A team that is in a rebuilding phase can't afford to let 6/10 players go for free because these players don't actually grow on trees. The money invested in replacing him will not be invested in the 8/10 players who will most likely not be interested in joining a team that doesn't have 6/10 players to support him and make his job easier.

I know that we are in a pretty bad position when it comes to attracting new players but we can't say for sure that we won't sign a better player than Herrera, and I don't think having him in the team would have had that big of an effect for our future transfers one way or the other either.
I mean Mctominay is a 6/10 player who can offer pretty much exactly what Herrera did, and being so young he has the potential to become even better as well.

One of our problems is that we have too many 6/10 players in the first place, so having one of them leave shouldn't be such a bad thing. (the fact that I used the word shouldn't says everything we need to know about how shit things are though)
Anyway, he's going to be 30 at the start of next season and for a player who has workrate as his best quality that whole 'getting older' thing will not be good for him.

Wouldn't mind if I knew I wouldn't be seeing these clowns as well.

Every day that passes increases my anger towards Ed Woodward.
For the full set, he should get Mata (a player who is not MUFC quality) to sign a new contract.

I'm beginning to think that I am the only one who is angry at Woodward's constant screw ups. This should've been our title year, instead, he did nothing in the transfer market last Summer, he demotivated the manager which got us 2nd and was desperate to win the league, to a point where simply gave up. In the process, LFC and MCFC are competing for hte title, while we face a failed season.

He then allowed the Jan transfer window to pass, which was a good time to re-enforce, to ensure we got top 4. Then he renewed contracts for players who should've been released - not sold, but released, because nobody would pay any money for these men.
Now he is letting our best players leave the club.

Fans need to take stock and understand what is happening.
I am livid that so few are calling out Woodward, while giving our players and manager flack!
While Woodie remains our DoF, our on pitch performances will decline.

His last big contract of his career, moving to a team that guarantees a league winners medal and a few cups, nice pay rise...

You can’t blame him at all for the move. All the best Anders.

I'll miss him and wish him the best. He is a true professional. I also think he wasn't appreciated enough by a some managers.

I'm not sure why he is going to PSG as I don't see how he gets many minutes.

Yeah if anything our website should be about Valencia and his departure. 10 years at the club winning league title, every domestic trophy, CL finals, PFA team of the year and so bunch of ManUtd club awards.

No wonder those three are grinning. Christmas every day.

Very disappointed, one of the few players that I felt understood the club. I can't blame him for wanting to go to a club where he'll have a guaranteed title, champions league spot, more money and living in Paris. Seems the club wants to do more to keep players who clearly should've left ages ago than actually keep the players that have earned their place. But I guess keeping that English core (of sh1te) is more important. It's the United way.

It's a shame and I wish Ander the best.
I'll look at it positively though. While he was a decent squad player, this gives more room to bring someone in who's better and more than that.

I wonder if there's been a falling-out behind the scenes, or some kind of indiscipline by Valencia.

Player of the year during our most successful year, post SAF and arguably the best player during Ole's unbeaten run, no surprised we dropped off after he got injured. He's not mediocre as some keep going on about. If he is mediocre what does that makes Liverpool midfield? I bet Klopp would value him highly.

At United hes been under utilised at the club especially under Jose who kept on dropping him always trying to make the gaint tugboat trio of Pogba, Matic & Fellaini work.

Him, Pogba & DDG should always have been the first names on the team sheet, imo.
The club has messed up, as once Fellaini was told he had no future, Herrera's contract should have been extended moments later.

That said, i don't begrudge him leaving one bit at this stage in his career, given state the club is at the moment. At PSG he going to get CL football, more money, guaranteed silver.

Sigh!! A sad sight to see the little charcter this squad has to go out for free.
Herrera was a key part in all the sides that played good football in the last 5 years, whether it was Van Gaal good run in March April 2015, Mourinho's Europa winning team (Ander was MOM in the final) or Ole's resurgence of Manutd last December.

Will miss you Ander.

Highlights for me
1. Man marking Hazard out of the game
2. Gerrard 40 seconds red card
3. Volley in league cup against Yeovil Town
4. Winning matt busby player of the year in 2017

Sometime these things happen, when players run their contract down but I don't think you can confidently say Ed couldn't have done something differently. Mourinho didn't rate Herrera and at a point he didn't play much for a season. Seemed like we were going to sell him at that point, but we were unsure if we should do it due to not trusting Mourinho. This is how these things happens. The club can force things through most of the time if they want, not always but it is clear to see Ed have no idea how to resolve these things.

You are free to blame Herrera or whatever you want.
