What a dreadful, dreadful season he's having.

I'm reluctant to write him off just because we've seen other players come back from the brink recently but he really does look like he'll be gone in the Summer.

Yes yes I mean in games like today where we were playing some second rate players. Mkhi just offers absolutely nothing. I’m saying I’d rather see how a player like Gomes (or another youth player?) would fare.

Don’t know tonnes about our youth players, so maybe Gomes is a bit young to be bringing in but I know he’s highly rated.
That's a fair point.

I guess Jose is trying to play him back into form. That's failed though.

Definitely. Was awful against Southampton and, besides that pass for Rashford’s sitter, was awful today.

Encouraging comments on him by the manager, saying it was unfair to take him out at half-time and he excused himself to the player in front of the squad.

Jose told a news conference: "I didn't like what I did, unfair, he didn't deserve.

"He was playing well, he was not playing bad, he had a couple of mis-possessions, but he was giving a good dynamic to the team and my feeling was that [Marcus] Rashford is not going to score a goal and because of that I am not going to lose time and I am going to play Romelu and I am going to sacrifice a player and Mkhi was the one I sacrificed.

"But it is not something I normally do and at half-time I apologised to him in front of the people because he didn't deserve it."

The relationship between Mourinho and Mkhi has completely broken down.

Mourinho players other players through the bad spells (Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Mata, Lukaku). When it's Mkhi, one mistake you're off. One miss placed pass, one mis hit cross and you need to come off.

Rashford missed an easy goal today. Why wasn't he subbed?

Mourinho is being harsh on Mkhi probably because Mkhi dares to challenge Mourinho.

Saw this article. Don't know if it's made up but if it's true then there you have it.
If anything he's playing too much. He's been given chance after chance to get back in form and every single time he failed.
Mickhi daring to challenge Mourinho is the least of his problems.

I was a big fan of his at Dortmund, I hoped it would come good for him here but I think he is done here unfortunately. Disappointing.

He was doing significantly better compared to other games. I feel in a deeper role he has a bit more time to think and has more space. Still, chances are he has no future here but I'm still glad Mourinho backed him and apologised.

It was not unfair. Dead man walking. He has consistently shown that he is an expert at misplacing passes since he has joined.

Yes, agreed.

Although I am a fan, I just don't think he fits into our team. I am shocked by Jose's comments, it is unlike him to apologise, especially towards Mkhi.

Hoping for a miracle that he will stay at least till summer and come good, but I think the horse has bolted, he has no future here.

Jose said the right things publicly after the match, but he won’t lose any sleep over replacing Mkhitaryan at half time. I’m sure he didn’t relish doing it, but he’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Mkhitaryan has been a very frustrating player to watch. He’s had some sublime moments, but they’ve been much too few and far between. He hasn’t even been able to find a reasonable level of performance over any period of time. Rather, he consistently gives the ball away and disappears in matches. His work ethic hasn’t always been good and, too often, he lacks commitment defensively. Really, he’s the antithesis of the “warriors” that Jose covets. I’d be stunned if he’s not sold this summer.

Strange that none of the Italian or Spanish clubs wants to take a punt, we'd surely sell at £20m, and I think he would relish playing with less pressure.

He did do better than he has been the last few months. There were a couple times in short succession where he nominally gave the ball away, but each time it was because the person he was trying to pass to simply stopped moving into the position they should have. As such I'd put the 'blame' more on them in those instances. Of course, he also did make some terrible plays of his own where he has to take full blame.

He’s just far too inconsistent of a player and has failed to reach what was expected of him.

For whatever good he does, he does 3 or 4 not so good things whether it be playing the wrong ball at a crucial time or looking lost on the pitch or completely misreading a play. On top of that, he’s just not of top quality - is rather meh tbh - and shouldn’t be on a United club that aspires to be one of the best in the world again. ...you don’t hit on em all. Best if both United+Mikhi move on as quickly as possible and not drag out the inevitable.

Really like Miki. Still remember when he joined and wowed everyone with his incisive passing and brilliant running at defenders. Unfortunately he is a shadow of that player these days. At 28 he just doesn’t have the luxury of time, nor does the team, to let him take another 6 months to play back into form. On this you can’t blame Mou. Miki had been given plenty of chances. Would have loved to see him succeed at OT but just seems like one of those partnerships that looked really good on paper but fizzles out in practice. His game just is not cut out for the PL.

Completely agree.

Btw, Canucks and Patriots?! West and East don’t mix dude. (I’m from Van)

He is not a fighter. He is someone who doesn't want to battle it out when in a difficult situation. The worst kind of a player you can have in squad. He will only blossom in a team where he is protected and comfortable imo.

Lol I know a bit weird

..long story short, born and raised in Vancouver. Got family in Massachusetts and first ever football game I went to (NFL or CFL) was a Pats one when I was a little kid there visiting. Love at first sight you can say and been a fan ever since :p

Edit: likewise, my cousin who lives in Vancouver as well had a similar experience but visited Carolina as a kid and it was his first ever game he went to as well and has been a fan ever since. A few years back when the Panthers and Hawks faced off in the playoffs, I tagged along and watched it at Century Link Field with him. Hard to say no to a NFL playoff game and at the loudest stadium whenever you get the chance to. And odd enough, Pats-Ravens game was right before the Panthers-Seahawks and I had a gut feeling there would be a fair chance we’d face the winner which ended up being the case (winning against Seattle in the SB :D)

We all have that feeling lately every time Marcus is on the pitch.

Enjoy Brady whilst you can!

By now you guys should know jm doesn’t bullshit. He means what he says and says what he means and hence his success. Mourinho is basically a young Alex Ferguson...albeit a defensive one.

Every united player made shitty moves tonight. Rashford screwed up like 5 times and yet no one is talking about it. 95 mil Pogba had some bad moves and yet noone is talking about Pogba. Mkhi is like a scapegoat. He did pretty well in that 45 minutes. Few good passes and runs. The pass to Rashford was fantastic. Not sure how one doesnt score from that position.
Some claim that he looks like he doesnt care. Thats a total bs. He is very concentrated and runs and passes. People have the prejudice and see only the bad things.
He's been poor for weeks/months now.

The spotlight is on him and you cannot afford to do stupid things like pass the ball to the opposition in your own half. He was under no pressure either, they nearly scored. Things like that Mourinho hates!.

Yes he did a few nice things like I mentioned, but the good hardly outweighed the bad. He gave Lindelof 2 horrible short passes, the cross for Rashford which he ballooned miles over.

We've heard that he's got a poor mentality, and it seems true that he just ends up feeling sorry for himself, moping around the pitch. On form he's a great player but we can't afford to carry people like him.

He plays like a talented but extremely raw 17 year old who everyone believes will make it in 6-7 years.

At Man Utd and at the age of 29 he's hopeless.

He's like a prisoner in a no man's land.
Get out before the guards notice you.

He misplaced a few passes/had a few wayward crosses but I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as some are saying. He kept looking to make things happen and looked for a ball over the top a few times, can't fault his effort for yesterday IMO.

Mkhitaryan is undoubtably talented, he’s wilted under the pressure at United though.

His season went south when Pogba got injured, and he was expected to take over the creator role in the team. He couldn’t handle the responsibility.

Since then he’s just looked a bit shell shocked. It’s a shame because there’s a player in him. However, it’s becoming clear that he’s a born backing singer not a lead.

An apology for substitution for Jose?

This sounds like a goodbye on good terms.

Keep refreshing BBC sport hoping some mugs will have bid for him. Must be some team out there in Spain/Italy willing to put up some dosh. Dont think I have seen such a mentally weak player since Di Maria came

Honestly don't think we'd get much more than £10 million. He's 29 at the end of the month and we're usually quite a poor selling club. Plus he's utter shite anyway.

The search for our world class winger goes on
