he certainly was one of the worst at the pitch today but with the number of changes and the midfield we fielded for the second half it was obvious we will not see much of the ball and our attacking palyers might struggle, I'd try to play him from the middle instead of Rooney but that won't sadly happen, he's got good footballing brain, works hard, can turn, pick a pass, shoot, he is certainly suited to that role and would see much more of the ball, I don't think he's that good when hugging the touchline, I think we might play in a quite similar way on the right with either him or Jesse who looked better in the preseason I think. Let the better player play

Think hes in for a fight of places. Lingard looked lively and didnt stop running whilst he looked a little bemused although his support was Valencia for much of the match and Fellaini beside him. Hell be much better in the first team rotation. Looking forward to seeing him in a proper starting 11 on Sunday.

Looks like Jose is trying to ease him in slowly instead of putting too much pressure too early.

Won't read too much into these pre-season performances although him getting shoved off the ball is a bit worry for me.

Can someone explain why we spent £25M on this player when he is another number 10. He is not a wide right player.

We already have at least 2 number 10s in Mata and Rooney.

A pacey natural wide man like Mane would have been the much better signing. These decisions are crazy. Will be sold in 2 seasons back to Germany for less than £5M.

Except his best season came playing on the right? Also, you do understand that he will most likely be roaming from his position, rotating with the other 3 attackers.

He is pacy and excelled on the right for Dortmund last season. Mane also arguably played his best football through the middle.

Who let this guy back in?

Roaming will rarely work. Maybe like Silva when he plays off the left at City, but it doesn't give any balance to the team. Especially as Miki is right footed, its not like he can cut inside and shoot/pass.

The other 3 attackers will be Rooney, Martial and Ibra. Only Martial can run in behind. Its just a mess. Martial is supposed to be a number 9 too, not a wide man. We are basically going to be playing with 3 number 10s and 1 centre forward on the wing.

We need to copy Leicester and go to a basic 4-4-2.

It's like you've got everything wrong. Martial played most of his career LW so it's alright. It's not like you can only score with your right cutting in from left too.

He looked good in his first game when he played centrally. I doubt the team will be effective if he plays on the right with Rooney and Ibrahimovic centrally. As I mentioned before he plays like KDB and if you do not find the right system that plays to his strength, he will not be effective. KDB was ineffective for Mourinho at Chelsea and I fear the same outcome for Mhkitaryan if we do not give him more freedom.

Martial only plays wide left because Depay failed so far and Martial is good enough to play anywhere. He is a natural striker in my opinion.

Unless you're very good with your "weak" foot, then its almost impossible to score with your right playing on the right.

I know it's hard to tell right now where he stands, but tbh, he hasn't impressed me at all.

I have a feeling he will not perform that well and will be spending a lot of time on the bench this season.

He can only play centrally if Rooney is moved into midfield which Mourinho said will not happen so will play most games from the right. Valencia is an ideal fullback for him though.

No, not really. He only played a striker for us due to lack of any options up front when he did. For Monaco or France, he's a LW.

As for Mkhi, not really again, if you stretch the team good enough you've got runners who'll end up running into the box with nobody covering them if you manage to switch the play quickly from the crowded side to the empty one. Mkhi's done that plenty of times at BVB as they've done that numerous times.

Kostur, meet Scholesy.

So you would have rather we spent that money on another #10? Right...

Martial has said he prefers to play through the middle.

We have far too many number 10s and Miki is just another one. He can play wide right because he is a good player but it doesn't help the balance of our team or squad. We needed a fast and direct wide man, like Nani, Mane or Moura.

But Mane, Moura and Nani are all right footed as well so how could they cut inside and shoot? Nevermind the fact that Nani was flogged from here, Moura seems to be a flop in a weaker league and Mane is incredibly mediocre to say the least.

Nani is right footed but has a very good left foot. And its more about crossing, and have pace to stretch and get in behind teams.

These players have pace, they can skip to the line and get crosses in. Miki is already past his physical peak and doesn't have much pace.

He can't beat a man so needs to work extra hard to get a yard of space to cross. The United team is set up to play static football. No runners, movement or speed.

Pretty ineffective the last couple outings, but I still hope he can hit the ground running when the season kicks off.
I can't help but wonder if we should have added a Mane or Mahrez to the right flank, even as just another option.

Oh God not this shit again.

He's deceptively quick plus his running in behind will be grand once somebody decides to pick a pass from midfield I guess. He wouldn't have scored as many goals and wouldn't have assisted so much in BL if he couldn't do everything you think he can't. You're just too used to classic 442 and think of an old days winger you'd see in Fergie days. Fergie is no more though.

Mahrez yes, Mane hell fecking no.

He is 27 how could he be past his physical peak and he is also quite quick.

:wenger: you on a wum or something? how can a 27 year old be past his physical peak. He has pace, as well. Its pre season man, chill out

Shinji Shinji Shinji Kagawa

Shinji Shinji Hoooraaaaahhh.

I don't know, I'm just fecking fed up of us signing players that we have to ''accommodate'' to get the best out of. Tell that to Roy Keane, Cole, Yorke, Giggs. They all just performed to their ability whatever the system or players around them. I'm not saying we should be judging Miki yet but if that's the case we've fecked up yet again.

Except Miki had his best season in his career playing the majority of it as a RW. I won't even address the whole 'roaming' problem you seem to have. One short video compilation of Miki will show you that it does work, and in fact very well. Whether he can transfer this ability to the PL is yet to be seen. Your number 10 argument regarding him is groundless. Furthermore, most of Martial's best moments have come off of the LW. You're trying really hard to find negatives that aren't there. And on the other hand it's just pre season. Relax.

EDIT: As for Running in behind; have you ever watched Ibra play football?

What a total load of nonsense. Every time I see your name, it's followed by some negative drivel. Cheer up.

As for the last line, just :wenger:

Watch him when we are actually controlling a game like the first half and you will see a different player. He was voted Bundesligas best player by his fellow players, just let him be.

He looks ineffective so far, not in sync with rest of the team and not in match rhythm. Will get better but I suppose he will take some time to adjust to EPL. Not sure I would start him over Lingard right now.
As if Lingard has done anything better.

How about we wait until the season starts to judge him?

Not every player hits the ground running.

Those that do seem to turn shit aswell. Di Maria, Memphis, Herrera, Darmain, Kagawa all really good in pre-season/first few games then fizzled out.
