Have we been unlucky?

No, not really. You can't expect to concede that much of the ball in your own half most of the game, then have Saka and Havertz miss sitters and believe that you were hard done by.

If we could actually pass the ball in the oppositions half with any competency then the whole unlucky thing doesn't even become a thing. Just make your luck by being better.

They scored three. Even with our two, made sure of it.
I knew we’d concede in Extra Time because of this. I looked up saw 92 minutes & there were 8 to play, said we’re fecked.

If we could possess the ball even half decently we don’t find ourselves on the end of barrages like we saw this season & last at the Emirates.

I said it last season & still maintain it now, I’d spend the whole budget on a completely new midfield. You can have Harry Kane up front in this team & he’d be fecked on days like today.

Today yes.

Ferguson would be rubbing his hands tonight thinking about the run of form he would have got out of using this to prove everyone's against us

Feeling aggreived in football isn't the worst thing in the world.

"Unlucky"

Arsenal had more of the ball, better territory, more shots and more chances. There was some decent things about our performance but we're not a relegation fodder who are just happy to have a competitive game, we want to be the better team and yet again we were 2nd best.

We conceded a last minute winner against them last season.. At some point you have to stop talking about luck and wonder what we're doing wrong. Why did this happen 2 seasons in a row? Because we cannot keep the ball under the slightest bit of pressure and end up defending our penalty box for almost the entire 2nd half. The fact our ball retention is so bad is not bad luck. We were hanging on for dear life against 10 man Forest last week because we can't keep the ball. When you're constantly hanging on for dear life at the end of every game then you're going to concede late goals.

We also don't defend properly, clearly. The referees aren't throwing the ball in our net, we failed to make tackles, blocks, interceptions to prevent the goals we conceded. That's on us.

Literally any other club would have replaced their players who aren’t good enough adequately

Our first choice 4 centre backs are all good enough for their roles.

Maguire might get a lot of grief, but he's certainly good enough to be a 5th choice centre back and play the occasional 10 mins.

Evans I don't really know what we're thinking.

But he can't move more than a meter without taking a break. Amarabat is mobile and press-resistant hopefully, he'll fit straight in.

Let's hope so, as matching last year looks an ask at the moment.

We have been unlucky not just with injuries but also with decisions .

We should have been 3 -0 up by half time at Spurs.

We should have been 2-1 if not for the disgrace offside call. Where was the foul call on Evans?

I had to wait until 80th minute to see a shot on goal by Arsenal in the second half. Onwards and upwards.

We concede unlucky goals, but they come on top of ones conceded from poor defending, meaning it’s very hard to take any points.

It’s bad luck that we ended the game with Maguire and Evans as our centre back partnership, in 2023. Injuries are shagging us already.

But if you give Odegaard and Rice that much room in the six yard box, don’t be surprised when they score a goal.

It's not luck when it happens again and again. We need better mentality we've let opponents cage us in our own box and are happily defending there. It's only a matter of time before we get punished when defending like that.

Sometimes poor preperation can look like bad luck. But its because you planned poorly and didnt make use of your resources in the right way

That sums up our transfer window

Nope we have been borderline terrible nearly every game. We are so easy to play against and only seem to score on the break. A player like Amrabat should have been in in July and Mount never signed, that is on the boss. I feel a few on here will be in for a shock come the end of the season. I think this could be our worst in a while and the CL will be over at the group stage. Europa beckons.

Signing Evans and only being able to afford a loan for Amrabat on final day of window just shows how bad we are financially. Forget decent signings in January or even next summer. Glazers stay it will just get worse and whether we want it or not EtH will be gone after year 3. We need new owners yesterday!

Not sure you understand xG if you're using that without any context. Our marginally offside goal doesn't count to that. Both our CBs went off injured. That Jesus goal would have inflated theirs, as we were throwing everyone forward.

We obviously need to improve, but that xG stat doesn't say much.

Played really well today away from home and we were so close to winning.

can’t complain at that. Can’t wait for after the international break.
Why am I not surprised you are leading the charge of the delusion brigade.

Our performances haven't deserved any luck, we've been outplayed in the main.

Injury wise we were pretty fortunate last season when Liverpool and Chelsea were hit badly, helping us finish 4th.

Down three center backs and a center mid already and the season has barely been three games long. Imagine if there hadn’t been a Jonny Evans signing, they’d be playing Casemiro or McTominay there.

The possession stats and the territory stats, the number of shots were all in their favour. Havertz and Saka both missed sitters in the game.

Offside goals don't count, that's football.

It wasn't a complete blow-out, but it feels like United fans are just happy to put up a decent fight in these games, rather than actually be the better team. If you poll 100 neutrals over who the better side were in the game 99 of them would say Arsenal.

No we weren’t. Eriksen was a big loss. Casemiro wasn’t injured but missed a lot of games. Shaw and Varane couldn’t stay fit. Martial basically missed the whole season. Antony missed a lot of games. Garnacho got a bad injury at a terrible time etc etc

Seems we're re-writing last season now too as everyone is convinced EtH is a dud.

Lots of posts about the club being rotten due to the Glazers etc, but the fans are definitely rotten.

Yeah of course, but we can equally say we're unlucky in spite of that. Look what happened when Arsenal lost Saliba.

I know, but it's missing context.

I am gutted to lose this, but a bit of perspective doesn't hurt. In Fergie's day he'd snap your hand off for a draw away at Arsenal every season. I don't think anyone is happy with losing if you put up a fight, but it makes it not the end of the world and can still see positives.

Ehhh… If we also start to question VAR’s offside decisions we are on wrong track here. VAR’s offside technology is equal to truth.

Very small margins and luck often correlates though.
Oh I agree and normally I say play to the whistle but it was 89th min and I think it would have been game over

Yes goal was onside. We need that new Wenger offside rule in place asap

Yes 100%. If only Garnacho was just one foot behind... Also very unlucky deflection for their leading goal... I don't even consider the third one, they had to be all out in atack.

Evans I don't really know what we're thinking.

I get your point but finishing a game with Evans and Maguire is catastrophic and this will happen again this season.

It's just sod's law it happens first away to one of the better teams, not home to some chumps like Burnley.

Well if we didnt have the biggest set of clowns in world football upstairs running the club we could have had put Amrabat in at DM and move Casemiro to CB in an emergency like today.

Beyond a joke that we didnt have Amrabat in last June with a full preseason behind him.

We were unlucky with injuries and margins today's but I don't like the fact that we play like cowards away from home.

Looking forward to see Amrabat shore this up.

What makes you say this, when after the first goal we conceded within about a minute, and still had 9 or 10 mins left?

You think they would have scored that? I believe they wouldn’t because the effect on morale would have been huge

Kind of my point.

My only defence of the current set of clowns is that they are currently trying to fix the shitshow of the last set of clowns.

We are unlucky but we're also not good enough/clinical enough to overcome bad luck

Again, don't think we should be disheartened by this. Arsenal are much further along with their project than we are but I still don't see them winning anything any time soon.

I think it will click for us eventually

I wouldn't have been confident at us hanging on for 10mins with Maguire and Evans back there no.

Overall we have been more lucky than unlucky under ETH. We were not the third best team in England last season.

I just had a look at the goals again and feck me, we were kinda robbed here. That VAR offside call is just beyond nonsense. The moment of construction of their arbitrary lines is so subjective, it's impossible to pinpoint the split millisecond the ball was struck let alone measure across the pitch. It's not an argument to say there's refereeing bias, but any tight call you can make look either way with VAR.

imo Gabriel definitely pulled Evans out of the way for Rice's winner (and threw himself to ground to boot). Again I'd say marginal but not a nice call to go against you.

Scrolling through the 4 pages and not one mention of the Wolves game....

Being an inch offside is unlucky, but Arsenal were probably the better team overall, which is to be expected as they were at home and have been a better team for a year now. Plus, they had a huge chance when Saka kit is straight at Onana - 9/10 times he scores that.

The fact the two goals were deflected were a little unlucky.

What isnt unlucky is the fact we left Rice unmarked off a corner.

Massively lucky not to concede a pen v Wolves. If that was at the other end, Ten Hag would have been going crazy. That decision probably saves us two points.
