Harry Maguire

He's one of the few English defenders I look at and think he could play abroad at a higher level pretty comfortably.

He'd be no worse in defence than some of the jokers Dortmund have and given he isn't the quickest but can read the game Seria A would also be a league where I'm sure he could do well.

He reminds me a bit of Pallister in how he plays, scandalous how he only got about 20 England caps.

You think he can excel playing in Dortmund's absurdly high line?

He lacks pace so playing him in a defence parked on the halfway line like Spurs and Man City would be a big risk.

He's better in a back 3 aswell, really came into his own when Hull started doing it last season.

I assume when Leicester signed him they'd just move Fuchs as a third centre back but so far they've stuck to the deep back 4 that won them the league (Simpson, Morgan etc). He's been exposed some times but excellent at other times.

A really interesting player who hopefully the national team won't misuse. I rate him higher than Michael Keane who to me is just a head it, kick it CB.

The indications are that England will three centre backs with Maguire having the license to step out. I think that is the best way to use him.

Probably not in that system. They would need to be more pragmatic in team set up which is what they probably should do to be closer to Bayern anyway.

He is certainly no worse than Marc Barta, Sokratis etc though.

Leicester are a good side and he is good for them but, the top sides are going to want a CB that is a little more agile and better on the ball.

Not sure will he ever be world class but better on the ball? He's one of the best CBs in the league on the ball.

I think CB performance is more dependent on tactics than any other position. Maguire might not look as good playing Dortmund's high line and Batra and Sokratis might look better playing in a deeper line like Leicester's.

Said it before a few times too, reminds me of pallister

I like how he plays full blooded he seems to be a leader i would swap Smalling for him right now we would be better for it.

another great game against Liverpool today. Such a solid and talented player, every time I watch him I'm impressed.

Excellent today. I'm not sure he has found his level, I think he's still improving. Could definitely end up at a bigger team than Leicester, he'd be a good signing for someone like Arsenal now. Or Liverpool.

Good job cursing him. Knew it would happen when the thread was bumped.

It's probably more down to the fact that everyone is actually watching him with a critical eye. If nobody bumped the thread today, the mistake would've been ignored and his thread would've been bumped next week when he did something good again.

Not sure about that. The hype has been up for a while now i'm sure someone would've. Getting destroyed by Salah doesn't change the fact he has been solid this season, but he got absolutely destroyed there :D

that goal was simply down to Kasper doing his dads starfish that never works, orthodox dive and he has a chance of saving it

Don't really see a difference between him and the new Liverpool player that they spent a fortune on!

He's a good defender on form who I think has found his level.

Premier League level is really good. It is unknown quantity of potential for any good players to make a step up to the big six.

The gap between the top and bottom bar City is not that big compared to the previous era. Basically what I'm trying to say is if a player like Maguire is performing at a top level in a premier league team, he can be either a great signing or a bad signing for the bigger clubs.

Just like Mane to Liverpool, he can be a gem.

Yeah your right, we'll see what Maguire does in the future. I think we'll see him move to one of the bigger teams and maybe some of his flaws will be more exposed. Time will tell.

He is so awesome in possession. Solid technique, calm, composed and very good vision. Also had a cracking 30m pass to the left winger in the build up to the 2-0 goal that later was ruled out for offside.

Imagine a United CB in a similar situation. Sideways pass to another defender or a simple pass to the DM (Matic). Our CBs (maybe with the exception of Lindelof) don't have the ability to be adventurous with the ball. Would have made so much more sense getting Maguire last summer than Lindelof.

Having a ball playing CB (that actually can defend, unlike Stones) is essential. We blame our midfielders and wide players for not creating enough but to be fair to them we only ever have 7-8 players in attack vs 10 defenders. Our CBs are never involved. A CB that can pick the right pass is vital to regularly unlock stubborn defences. Would also help relieve some pressure and burden off the other attackers if they knew they had a CB behind them capable of playing ball.

Been a big fan of his and wanted us to pick him up from Hull. He'll go for 50-70m soon.

Personally I feel individual defending and defensive performances are a dying breed. Seems to me the focus is on defensive systems, with solid players with ball technique, the system stifling opposition team rather than world class defenders of yesterday year going toe to toe.

He’s great I really like him.

He was excellent when he was at Hull playing against Zlatan.

Still don't get why 'pool were chasing Van Dijk in the summer when Leicester picked up this guy for half he price.

Similar ability on the ball, Maguire being the better defender whilst Van Dijk has a bit more pace.

Same can be said for us

Definitely. Should have gone for him over Lindelof.

Think Liverpool wanted Van Dijk for his pace as they play m a high line. I don’t watch Leicester enough to comment how Maguire would do in that situation.

his passing and vision are awesome, can't think of another English CB right now who is that comfortable on the ball. Would have been a perfect fit next to Bailly IMO, hopefully Lindelöf can take a few steps and become the ball-playing defender that we all hoped for when we signed him.

Sorry but I just don't see the hype about half the PL CB's highlighted on this forum

That's what I like about him, he's so different to other English CBs and much more continental in how he plays.

Think about most English CBs, Jones, Cahill, Smalling, Michael Keane, Shawcross, their mentality is head it, kick it etc. If the pass is on they'll play it but we see so often if you press them they'll just hack it anywhere and thus you lose control from the back.

Maguire doesn't care about any of that, he'll play his own way regardless of opposition game plan. I find him a much more interesting player than John Stones.

It was a shame he joined Leicester a year later. Would've been fascinating to see him play champions league but guess he was still unknown at Hull in 2016.

Just needs Xavi to come out now and says he's got Barca DNA and we're good to go.
