Him and Cundy banging on about how shit we are almost made me want to phone in and scream.
Don't take Talksport seriously. it s a program made by Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime especially for other Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime

Are you on a mission to prove that your boy Smalling is worthy or what? Just get behind Maguire, it's done, Smalling will never be a first 11 player for our club again.

I disagree but its not about him.

Its about spending all this time and money on a player who wont change the status quo

Lost 13 games, and being called strongest defensive partnership?

They are not the strongest partnership - they are strong, but not the strongest. And let's be realistic here. Alderweireld has turned 30, and Vertonghen has turned 32. Neither player were lightning quick to begin with. My guess is they both will be replaced within 2 years.

My hope is that Maguire can have an impact beyond his immediate skill-set, and help improve players like Lindelof and Shaw as a part of a unit that’s greater than the sum of its parts. Lindelof has always struck me as a CB who needs an assured, calm and dominant partner alongside him to flourish, so hopefully that’s now the case.

The guy is a warrior. I’m glad we seemed to have got him.

Not sure how useful this is as doesn't show number of games or average per game, e.g. is Jones high stats from fewer games/ minutes.

What is clear is Maguire as a whole looks at least as good as Smalling for tackling, but comes with a whole host of other benefits...ability on the ball, stronger in the air, better at dribbling and general consensus is a more natural leader.

The stats on Jones may or may not be interesting, either A) not a big enough sample as always injured or B) other mistakes really offset the generally high quality otherwise.
Passing accuracy will be hugely skewed as Smallings passes will be 6 yards sideways, forward or backward. We're signing Maguire for forward passes and dribbling past the halfway line.

I know you disagree, it's the whole idea behind being a fanboy.

Which you are entitled to be if you want to be, but I'd rather not be. I'd rather be objective. I remember a thread on here about when Spurs sold Bale and spent the money they got for him suggesting they needed to compete for the title that season with that much spending.

Its the same for us, if we're spending £80 million on a CB on top of other signings then we need to be close to the top teams.

Accept that your favourite player has no long-term future at our club and support the ones that will actually play. You'll feel better in time, trust me.

I'm not even sure who my favourite player is. But the two I trusted the most to help De Gea defensively (who needed a lot of help last season with his own poor form) were Smalling and Ander.

Obviously I'm concerned that we're going to let in a lot of goals without them. We did at the beginning of last season without them afterall

Your concern is based on pure fiction, we have yet to see how our defense will do with the new additions and new playing style in official matches. Maybe wait until we've gone through 10-15 games, or at least 5, if you are so focused on being totally negative.

My concern is based on us without Ander and Smalling at the start of last season and the defense doing better when they were regulars in the 2nd half of the season. Thats the fact. You dont like it, but it doesnt change it. My feeling is based on what has come before when we played without them

Your concern has nothing to do with the current reality. Smalling and Herrera are not the only players in this world that provide defensive stability but you're just looking for any way to be negative and defend your favourite players, who either won't play for us anymore or have left the club.

What did Lindelof (or Shaw) do that was so great last season? I don't remember a game where he was brilliant defensively or on the ball which is supposedly his strength. Our defensive record was terrible and he played the most games. He's overrated on here because his name isn't Smalling or Jones and he wasn't as much of a disaster as his first season.
Well, most agree that they were our two best players last season. Lindelöf was great against Juve for instance, and in many other games. If you don’t rate them then who do you rate in our current squad then apart from the new signings?

This. If Lindelöf turns out to be the first choice partner to Maguire on the long term my hope is that Harry can be the support that he needs. This has been even more obvious in the national team where Granqvist fills in this space. With Maguire besides him hopefully Victor can contribute with the attacking attributes which were impossible without being too exposed in the previous partnership with Mike/Phil/Bailly.

I think Ole sees him as box to box midfielder not a dm
If we start with Matic I’d be very surprised. And McT is for sure a DM, perhaps a versatile one, but I believe he will play either in a pivot with Pogba or in a 3-man midfield with Fred/Pereira and Pogba.

Yeah, and on top of all this, I think people may be underestimating how much we will benefit from having a settled back four. It’s been years and years since we weren’t chopping and changing the back line from game to game. The closest we’ve had to a settled partnership was Smalling and Blind under LVG. If we can get the obvious four fit and playing week-in week-out together then the whole teams stands to benefit.

What has that got to do with anything?

It started here..

I actually detest the name Koulibaly now because it seems to be used constantly to make derisory remarks about our player or to make that person seem ITK about “good” defenders around Europe.

I guarantee that most of you have barely watched him play - he’s not very good. Reminds me of Bailly in fact and think he’d get found out in our league.

Some strange logic there...

Him and Bailly have completely different profiles as players, comparison is beyond lazy
I apologise..
I don't mean to make a joke and it's not a joke. I was just guessing why Adamsk7 (subconsciously?) comparing Koulibaly with Bailly.

The stats actually looks exactly the same as what we see in reality.
Maguire is clearly better in duel wons, header, and dribbling, which is exactly why we bought him for 80m. He is never a strong tackler though, hence his low stats when compare to our defenders. In fact, I do think he is among our worst tackler. His lower passing accuracy is because he attempts more long ball forward.

Is anyone else worried Harry will fail his medical? :nervous:

Maguire move collapses after United medical staff uncover a family history of slabheads disproportionate to the torso. The decision comes after having previously rejected Isco for similar reasons and De Ligt for a family history of being slightly overweight.

So apparently Leicester will make 68m from the deal as 12m will be going to Hull. They will spend 45m of it on Lewis Dunk....
Brighton have seemingly already signed his replacement in Webster.

I actually quite like Dunk, but if the chain of events play out it will make the Maguire fee less ridiculous in the context of things...
