It would be complete ignorance from Ed Woodward - so could see it being true.if that's true then you lot don't really want him

Some are more achievable than others (some will be valued very high, others not so much). But i'd be looking at the below list. All players aged 25 or younger with substantial minutes last season and all comfortable on the ball.
Jonathan Tah - Bayer Leverkusen
Manuel Akanji - Borussia Dortmund
Nico Elvedi - Borussia M.Gladbach
Milan Skriniar - Inter
Matthias Ginter - Borussia M.Gladbach
Jason Denayer - Lyon
Joachim Andersen - Sampdoria
Alessio Romagnoli - AC Milan
Benoit Badiashile Mukinayi - Monaco
Jules Koundé - Bordeaux
Diego Llorente - Real Sociedad
Boubacar Kamara - Marseille
Mario Hermoso - Espanyol
Kaan Ayhan - Fortuna Duesseldorf
Ruben Dias - Benfica

I really don't understand the Maguire situation really. He's bang average - he just is. Anyone thinking he's top class is deluded.
The valuation being discussed is baffling. This whole 'new market' thing is bogus, it had its peak of inflated prices shortly after Neymar with the likes of Coutinho, van Djik, Dembele etc. Maguire is not worth more than £50m so that just needs to be put out there. If we are going to be forced to fork out £80m+ then Koulibaly is at least a level above Maguire IMO and worth the extra money. If we are at all in the argument to sign De Ligt then obviously he should be the one we try to get anyway. If Diop is £45m~ and we get to offload Rojo, Jones, or Bailly as part of the deal then I'd take that too. Lastly, I'd personally rather just take Alderweireld for a couple of years for £25m if we're talking these silly prices for worse defenders.
However, can anyone actually come up with a reason as why it would be Maguire? It was said last season that Maguire wasn't any better than what we had and Mourinho was shut down in wanting to buy him (if this is true). Why are we going to go and sign players Mourinho told us to sign after he's already been sacked? Baffling. I actually agree with the original diagnosis that Maguire is not any better than Lindelof and Smalling. You don't spend £80m on a player who isn't guaranteed to be better than your two first choice players in his position.
Even as a starting point for negotiations that doesn't make sense. It's no wonder our negotiations take so long. What sensible person would think they'd sell for 40m?
We're after a ball-playing centre half like Koulibaly, de ligt or Maguire. Somebody who's technically good by CB standards. Diop doesn't fit that description. He's a stopper. His passing stats are more like smalling's.I really don't understand the Maguire situation really. He's bang average - he just is. Anyone thinking he's top class is deluded.

I'm not sure there's another premier league team who's so far from their reasonable expectations as we are. We could slip out of the top pack if we aren't careful. No sensible person truly believes all the rubbish that has been written
Has anyone from the PL made any worthwhile signings yet?
He pushed for Alderweireld. Maguire was always a second or third option IIRCHang on... is this the same Maguire that Woodward vetoed literally last Summer when Mourinho wanted him!?
Of so... erm... wow. Woodward is kinda out of control surely?
Not that I don't Harry - but why veto him last Summer and essentially ruin our season, and the relationship with Mourinho?
Skriniar is not more achievable. We have better chance getting Maguire. Inter has no interest selling him, they don’t even accept him as part of the swap deal with Lukaku.
"Some"

My point is Skriniar shouldn’t be on the list.
We came second last season. We haven't been in the top pack for a good 5 years now. The sooner you accept that we won't be winning the league for decades the less frustrated you'd be watching us.

He would be our best CB I have no doubt in my mind. The only issue I see with this signing is that his lack of pace will be a bigger factor especially when paired with Lindelof. It would restrict us from playing a high line or it will make us vulnerable to the speedsters in the league.
Personally I just wish we'd go to Leverkusen and see if we can sign Jonathan Tah who looks the best fit to me. Tah looks the closest CB in terms of having a VVD effect I've seen in Europe.

I think you're being very harsh, especially if you've only seen him play a couple of times. Van Dyke had issues at 23 and so did Koulibaly at a similar age. And it seems under the guidance of Bosz he's coming off a good season and has shown consistency.Tah is not good enough mate. I've seen him play a couple of times. He makes a lot of mistakes and isnt intelligent enough to be a world class CB.
Right, that certainly rules Maguire out of that category as well. June 19the and we have signed a reserve winger!Tah is not good enough mate. I've seen him play a couple of times. He makes a lot of mistakes and isnt intelligent enough to be a world class CB.
It's a myth that Maguire is that good at passing and carrying the ball. He's a donkey. We're after a ball-playing centre half like Koulibaly, de ligt or Maguire. Why?This is blatantly untrue.
Why?
He's criminally overrated and not worth anywhere near £80m.
Good grief, the state of over reaction across this form is hilarious,"decades"!

What you mean to say is.......Maguire looks odd while passing and carrying the ball not he isn't that good, which he is but not worth 80 mil. It's a myth that Maguire is that good at passing and carrying the ball. He's a donkey.
For example, Maguire plays three times as many long balls as Smalling & Lindelof, which is true.
Donkey was probably a strong word, but the way we describe some of our own players makes me wonder. If there are 'stats' that prove he is significantly better than what we have, then fair enough, but of course stats are often misleading and can be manipulated to suit arguments. For example, Maguire plays three times as many long balls as Smalling & Lindelof, which is true. We criticise Smalling for lumping every week.
We are buying more of the same, if there is a quality boost it is minimal and not worth an £80m investment. It's crazy to think anyone is on board with this deal IMO, but whatever I guess.
If we even bought him for £45m I wouldn't be surprised if he actually failed to displace Smalling & Lindelof for a while. He would probably only replace Smalling eventually as he's nearing his 30's which we all know is the end of your career as a footballer...
