Also it doesn't matter which paper it is, they are direct quotes from Mourinho. Do you understand that even the tabloids aren't in the habit of inventing quotes on a regular basis?
The Daily Star were caught fabricating an interview with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. So, what you said factually isn't true.

If you think Smalling plays as badly as he did in that Chelsea game every time he plays. Then you are either on a WUM, don't actually watch him play or don't have a good understanding of football.
Like I already said, we were playing the best team in the league, and, naturally, playing the best team in the league exposes crap defenders like Smalling, who, by the way, is totally crap. Even if he had the strongest, healthiest toes on the planet, it wouldn't have mattered.

I like Smalling as a person, and I think his "I'm a human pineapple" hairstyle looks fantastic, but it's generally recognized by everyone that he isn't a very good defender. Labeling someone who points this out as "football ignorant" is just silly.

He didnt keep Sanchez out, they went to 3 at the back sometimes have all 3 playing because Toby and Verthongen are weak in the air. Sanchez made the 2nd most headers out of CBs at the top 6 clubs, 1st being Smalling. Sanchez played 22 games same as Verthongen.

Why would he tell clubs he doesnt want to leave when the entire reason he's at this point is he wants a new contract with more money? :D If anything his agent will be contacting other clubs so the pressure is on Spurs to give him what he wants or lose him

On the occasions Spurs played 3 at the back of course he played but they played a lot with a flat back four in which his starting 2 were Alderweireld/Vertongan, City home, Ajax away, the UCL final for example.

Probably either because his contract is just about sorted or he has decided to hang on for another season then get a big pay day come the summer? I can think of a few reasons can't you, similar to DDG, he was either signing a new deal or going next summer, lucky for us it is signing a new deal, similar situation to Alderweireld.

His agent has probably been doing that, and I am pretty dam sure there have been conversations between clubs that quite possibly are not known to random people on the Caf don't you, as mad as that seems hey.

Overrated does not mean he is not a good CB it just means he is not the godlike answer to our prayers some seem to be suggesting. He has been a class player for a few seasons but it is a fact that the best of those seasons are in the rear view mirror now and even at his peak he was not in the same class as Kompany or VVD. I believe at this point in time Lindelof is a better player, I would pick Smalling to partner Lindelof over Toby because Toby has the same flaws in his game whereas Smalling is a better pure defender and very good in the air. I have not said anywhere that he is dreadful or shite or anything of the sort but if we were going to buy him it should have been 3 years ago, buying him now will solve nothing and we will have another expensive veteran in our squad that we can't offload in 12 months time.

Wow........the bold bit, lets just move on, this will go on forever, Smalling a better pure defender than Alderwerield, that has to be one of the comments of the year.

Can't remember anyone saying he is a godlike answer to our prayers?

Yes I'm sure his agent has. But he's still at Spurs with a £25 million release and running out of time to activate it.

The spurs lad is very poor in the air so that would only compound our problems more alongside lindelof. Unless you Toby lovers want to pair him with Smalling?

He is, now in a similar situation to DDG, see what he does, there is no denying he is a top top CB, IMO anyhow, people disagree, all good not here to change anyone's mind

I thought this was the Maguire thread and was wondering since when was his situation similar to De Gea... Guess that's what happens when I just jump to the last post.

I am hoping this transfer will be concluded this week. We need to move on to midfield and RW.
No hope for RW this summer. Ole and the board seem keen on having Lingard/Mata for the RW starting spot and Greenwood/James fighting for the bench.

Sky Sports claim they rely directly on news from the clubs about transfers. If this is true, Maguire deal should have been done before now, having reported that deal was agreed and he would have medical imminently.

Haha yeah sorry talking about Alderweireld and his contract situation, it started by discussing his value at 25M or Maguire for 80M etc.

Clubs like a Man Utd have hundreds of millions of fans all around the world whose attention brings Sky/Sun etc a lot of money through page impressions, clicks, views and shares.

So they they have a hell of a lot to gain from literally making stuff up.

Leicester fans are well used to them trying to sell our players for us.

You haven't read this thread at all, have you. It is not generally recognised by everyone at all, the majority of people are praising him in this thread.

The saga rages on with no end in sight.

Silly season. I hate it. The sooner we get back to weekly football, the better.

I don't think we are in a position to buy anyone else I don't think we have the money for it. Woodward is staying behind to conduct transfer business, probably ddg contract and maybe a few duds leaving. I think I read somewhere else that Woodward said that it's an exciting time for the youth players and they are exceptional talent for the first team. It screams that more youth will be played this season rather than buying anyone. Do think we need Maguire but Woodward has other ideas on that.

We’ve heard that line before....

Rather frustrating to see no progress on this but it's probably a very complicated and difficult negotiation

Not really there is a price, you just need to pay it

Never as straight forward as that. Fee structure may be questioned, United may be playing a tactic of lengthening the negotiation and hoping Maguire pushes from his end (which will make Leicester compromise).

I'd wager you're not far off the mark here.

If Maguire really wants to be here, surely he should do some pushing and not allow Leicester to completely fleece us after they're already going to make a hefty profit on him.

Perhaps we're not his preferred destination anyway...

Harry won’t push for a move. United are playing a dangerous game as Leicester hold all the cards here. We’re not budging on the fee and we have a cut off date before the deadline too. If United don’t cough up the dough in the next 7 days then he’s going nowhere.

No one is saying a transfer is straight forward, but everyone knows what it entails. Why is it always so difficult for Manutd to get a good price ans transfer done quick and B) get the highest price for our assets.

Mings going for £26m (I know inc add ons) and we cant find suitors for Jones?

This isn't happening. We should move on and try to get 1-2 midfielders in with one at least a Matic replacement and hope Tuanzebe pushes for a starting spot. Holding out no hope for Bailly and Rojo. Jones? Meh.

If this guy is so great, just why have City not done the deal either? They've got the money, they've said they need a CB and I'm sure Maguire wouldn't mind going to a club where trophies are pretty much guaranteed

Oh hello Mr Aiyawatt srivaddhanaprapha, welcome to the redcafe.

The amount of times I've read a variation on "Leicester hold all the cards" in the past few days is incredible.

Can we all just agree that we're fecking shite at getting signings over the line. It's going to be easier to accept right now that the squad we have is pretty much going to be what we roll with this season. We'll live or die by that decision.

It's all well and good talking about payment structures etc, but this is nothing new. It's always been that way, yet we move at a glacial pace when trying to agree anything. We seem to want to haggle over ever last detail, yet still end up being the club that looks like it's overpaid in the end.

Some people recognise the situation with this proposed transfer, clearly.
Seems it may well be too early to talk about payment structure, as the amount has not even been agreed (by the sounds of it), this could be a long week.

No more I imagine, longer than a week and you will get told to bugger off I reckon, but who knows.

They’re definitely in the driving seat...
I mean cool, I get that, but there seems to be an influx of Leciester fans who seemingly only signed up to the forum to write down this exact sentiment in about 5 million different ways.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind. It's just all very silly.

Yean, if you say so.

Didn't realise that the player is not good enough because City haven't targeting him with the same intensity. Let's not buy him cause City don't want to pay the money.

I can give you various reasons why.

1. City lost Kompany who was being phased out - ok he played final few games.
2. They have invested heavily on Stones, Otamend, Laporte
3. City defence is still good enoug
4. Pep has said Fernandinho can slot in that role, like he did with Mascherano at Barca
5. City don't need him as much as we do

Is that enough for you?

Also weren't city looking for a RB? Cancelo was mentioned... we shouldn't have got AWB cause City didnt want him?

If they are in the driving seat they definitely should not be holding all of the cards, that is how accidents happen. I do think this is going to be done and probably this week based on the fact that we have been pursuing the deal since the season ended and it would be pathetic to drag it out this long and then not finish, that would be the ultimate in transfer window blue balls. More specifically, we are linked to several players but this is the only deal we can say with certainty that has involved actual bids and negotiations between the two clubs. With Harry being a proven PL player the club probably feel that getting him in early is not a priority and they are going to haggle for as long as they can, I don't agree with that but I expect that is how Ed sees things.
