If this Harry Maguire tunnel vision that we have going on is to be believed, then it's very, very weird.

I really, really don't want us to get him. He's a poor man's Hummels and if we're playing a high line with him and Lindelof it's absolutely suicidal.

FFS, if only Ed had given Jose his wish last year, we'd have saved £15m and would have likely been looking for his replacement by now.

Our full backs are pretty pacy and Smalling/Bailey is nt slow either.

Why cant this rumour go away.. about to pay £80m for this bloke and agree to £70m for lukaku over three years.. What a time to be alive.

Our fullbacks should be supplementary attacking tools, not holding the hands of our CBs. Yes, defend first and foremost, but also attack when possible.

If they are having to cover for the runs in behind from the opposition that's less time they can impact on the opposing team's defence. It's one step forward, two steps back.

Smalling is horsemeat at this stage, and Bailly is in last chance saloon. Neither should be first choice this upcoming season.

To say Maguire is close to his peak at what his mid 20s is absolutely laughable too, he's a CB.
Do CBs not enter their prime until they are 30? Some perhaps but that isn't the norm, they enter their prime years a year or two later than other outfield positions, generally. It's far from "laughable" to suggest a 26 year old CB won't get much better than this.

Saw the repot of a second, 60m + 20m bonuses bid been made. I'd imagine this will be done sooner rather than later. Something like 70 + 10 and get the deal done.

Leicester have Chilwell / Pereira flying forward regularly, I don't think we have to worry about that too much.

If we do get Maguire, we should also try and get Upamecano as well. Heard he's been stalling a contract extension with Leipzig. Jones, Rojo, Darmian need to be moved on.
Maguire, Lindelof, Upamecano, and Tuanzebe along with Smalling would give us enough depth to deal with injuries and suspensions. It also gives us the option to play 3 at the back with
Upamecano ---- Maguire ---- Lindelof

Point is - you don't have a better option than Maguire now. Either you don't get a CB or one in Maguire.

Hey, at least when the rest of the teams leave us behind and we're wallowing in 7th, 8th, 9th place we can still flash our gold watch at them.

We're not spending less than teams with a similiar income structure (ie. not Saudia Arabia money) apart from Real Madrid. How much we're spending is not an issue, the issue so far has been who we have spent it on, and how they have been used.

The club is trying to change that, give it time

According to Duncan Castles, we were offered De Ligt, but we wouldn't pay Raiola's £10m agent fee. Not sure how trustworthy Castles is, but refusing to deal with that toad Raiola is a step in the right direction, I think.

Maguire will surprise many septics when he comes to us. Mark my words.

In my world this a done deal. Only minor details and financing structures is left to negotiate about I guess, otherwise we had moved on. When presenting the deal there needs to be two winners so except two ways to describe the total fee. Mentality I’m already warming up to Longstaff.

With the prices thrown about the Wan Bissaka's fee actually doesn't look too bad. 21 yrs old after a great season, English, seemingly high potential etc.

Pretty bad source, I would say. He has Juve and PSG offers. Why would he come to us ?

Knowing us the bonuses are: Ballon D'or during 3 years, Winning Champions League inside first two years and a Premiership title in the first. No-brainer for Leicester:lol:.

So both fullbacks are going to be attacking at the same time?

Nope

You dont have a clue mate. You dont think fullbacks should cover for CB's? You never send both full backs at the same time. Maguire would be our best CB if he came.

Serious question, can you read? I literally said defend first and foremost in the post you quoted. Of course they should cover CBs, but at least one of the CBs should have the necessary recovery pace as an insurance.

Getting Maguire and pairing him with Lindelof would mean having two CBs who are somewhat lacking in pace, in addition to a 6 whose legs have well and truly gone. Having a high line in those circumstances means that instead of supplementing our attack, our FBs will be needing to ensure that the backline is secure rather than bombing on which would again, lead to the issues we currently have with the disconnect between defence, midfield and attack. The only way to counter that, would be to set us up in a low block, which as we've seen under Jose, would lead to the exact same issue of the disconnect between defence, midfield and attack.

Pair him with a pacy defender? The only ones we have are Smalling (shit), Bailly (reckless and feckless), Tuanzebe (not ready) and would beg the question why the feck are we going for another defender who's almost the carbon copy of Lindelof, and not even that good, at more than double the price? Ed should have just given in to Jose and got him for the £65m he was available for. It would have placated him, we'd have found that Maguire is bang average and we'd be looking at upgrading him, and maybe Jose wouldn't have been so destructive last year. Now, it'll cost us up to £20m more, and we'll find he's still not good enough. It will have set us back by a year, and for what?

Maguire would definitely improve our defense but I don't know who is more stupid us bidding 70m or Leicester rejecting that sort of money.

Wouldn't agree with that, Johnny would still be our best centre half.

He was utter garbage in his last couple of seasons ago. I can only imagine it's the classic situation where we watch every second of our players games, and only highlights of others, so overrate them, and underrate our own.

I’m usually optimistic about signing the players the club is looking at, expecting most to do well, but Maguire for 80m let alone 90m, could potentially be the worst transfer the club has ever made, buck for buck.

Think it’s hilarious everyone is moaning about how he’s too slow to play a high line, yet wank over De Ligt who is not much faster, if at all.

Surely you must be too young to remember Veron or Birtles

Veron was worth that price, it just didn’t work out due to many reasons.
Maguire isn’t worth anywhere near that, it’s completely out of proportion, he ain’t worth that, not in the current market, not in any market.
You’re right, Birtles was before my time, but that seems like pennies.

Don't worry, pal, neither will happen.
And we'll have a season of fuming at our defenders making gaffes, and Lukaku punting them over the bar from a metre out.

Unfortunately there are way too many "septics" on here.
Almost as many as the amount of sceptics. :wenger:

They seem to totally ignore that Smalling aside, we haven't exactly got a sprinting squad in defence anyway.

You do remember that the comparison is with Rojo, Jones and Smalling?
