Harry Maguire (Out): Chelsea eyeing a shock swoop for Harry Maguire | Utd say not for sale

Totally in agreement. Lindeloft, Jones, and Tuanzebe are perfect squad CB's. We could get decent funds for Bailly and Maguire so we should strike while the iron is hot. If this were football manager they'd be gone ASAP...I have to think we could offload both if they were keen for the move.

Well this isn’t Football Manager so thank feck we have a decent manager in charge rather than some people on here.

Now we're seeing the origins of the nonsense story that Chelsea wanted to sign Maguire. His agent planted these stories after he threw his toys out the pram because he knew he'd be dropped. Maguire has been the problem with United back four for over a season. Time to move him on he is just not good enough a far better back four last night. A few more signings and we are on the right track.

meh maguire is one of the most overrated players ive seen play for united/england. I just dont see it. I dont see the 80 million club captain CB. Dude is slow, passes slow, moves slow, thinks slow, reacts slow, and just doesnt lead the back line. If ETH doesnt feel like he fits the philosophy then sell him. Even if it was 30-40 million plus pulisic or something from chelsea. Lindelof as a 3rd CB is pretty good, and we can find options once we get to 4th cb spots. If we could add another attacker (especially if we replace ronaldo) and also have money to add another midfielder then def a wise choice to sell maguire. Shit target a truly unkown CB that fits our philosophy and start grooming him now as 4th CB with some of that money from selling maguire

He isn’t worth £80m, we were stupid enough to pay that. He’s been decent apart from last season. What are you going to do if Varane is injury prone and then one of Lindelof or Martinez get injured. If we wanted to target someone we would have done so but ETH appears to want to keep Maguire for this season much to the disappointment of people on here. That might change next summer when we can plan for a replacement.

any team will struggle once down to 4th CB, and shit even then we would have jones/mengi (at least i think mengi still here) who could fill in for a game or two if need be. And what good does it do if we are building an identity to keep an expensive ass part who doesnt even fit that role. Not going to go into the whole replacement/target someone else, as it seems like our club is incredibly incompetent's when it comes to basic scouting/transfer windows. I fully expect maguire to remain here, but man would i have huge respect for the club if they actually showed some proactive thinking for a change.

The manager clearly wants to keep him otherwise he would have been sold and/or we would have targeted a further CB.

not necessarily. Club couldve told him they didnt want to sell, or werent able to add yet another CB this year to truly replace him. Same reason ronaldo is still here. With this club who freaking knows it could be anything.

Ronaldo is only here because no one else wants him or can afford his wages. If someone could, he would be off, I have no doubt about that. I'm not sure Chelsea have offered anything for Maguire, appears just rumours. If they do, then ETH could make that decision to let him go but I don't think it will happen.

We can't sell him. We would have to buy another CB.
The summer of 2019 has proven to be a complete waste.

yeah i doubt maguire moves on either. In a dream world would hope he would move on but reality unfortunately says otherwise.

If we truly did sign Ronaldo at the behest of some of our sponsors, perhaps those same sponsors could now do us a favor and speak up about not wanting to have their name associated with this utter donkey any longer.

Seriously... look at the way other teams have dealt with underperforming players / bad signings, regardless of cost (Chelsea - Lukaku Werner, Barca - Coutinho, Griezman, City - Sane (plus several others), us - when SAF cleaned house every 4-5 years) DON'T KEEP THEM AROUND!!! We should have re-learned this lesson from when we failed to sell Pogba 2-3 years ago (would have made back most of his former world record transfer fee instead of getting nothing for nothing). So it baffles me that we have any desire to hang on to McGuire at this stage.

The positive about if we did sell Maguire, it wouldn't be hard to find a replacement who's able to perform at worst the same as Maguire. Losing Maguire would not be regarded as a "loss".

Who do we find this late in the window replacing Maguire and somehow fitting ETH's profile without getting rinsed?

I'm thinking more in line with using what we have. I would have Varane and Martinez as option 1.

After that, I would much rather have any one of the following to step in based on whoever is fit Lindelof, Tuanzebe, Jones, Mengi. That's how badly I think of Maguire and how detrimental he is.

Nevertheless, I genuinely think we could find a defender using the money we get for Maguire 30-50m (wishful) in any of the european leagues who would offer more. A young up and coming centre back. Even if we paid a premium of upto 50m, it is possible. Maguire is honestly not hard to find a player who would offer the same.

who knows, thankfully we have a huge scouting system that can help figure it out. And if ETH views maguire as our 4th CB not like we need to add a world class player. Get someone young and groom them. Shit maybe that is Mengi or something.

Romano saying there's nothing in the rumors. Not surprised.

It's obvious much of the leaks, particularly the anti-Ronaldo stories, are coming from Maguire or his agent. He's like a shit Rebekah Vardy.

Southgate better not pick this guy in the starting XI for the WC. Stones/Tomori is a much better partnership even if Stones is a bit off the pace.

If this tree. trunk is still captain in 3-4 weeks please, lord help us.

For me, Stones is a wee bit of a bomb scare. He looked dodgy at Newcastle/

We sold Lukaku for big money, anything is possible. Let's hope someone is feeling desperate.

I think if we received a decent offer, we would let him go and bring in someone else to provide squad option. The only reason he will still be here next season is because no one is willing go for him.

I bet Maguire was sitting on the bench in the Liverpool game desperate for Varane and Martinez to make mistakes that cost United the game.

Of course. Chelsea would want to sign someone on the up rather than with Maguire's baggage. I suppose it's in our interest too to let him recover some form this year and then maybe sell him next summer.

If Chelsea sign Fofana reckon we could shift him back to Leicester? Maybe in a deal with Tielemans?

Sell him to the Chavs and sign N’dicka.

Dream stuff. Won’t happen.

Heard Rogers hint that the Leicester owners are tightening their belts, so don’t expect them to splurge out on signings. Even if and when they sell Fofana to Chelsea, shelling out for Maguire constitutes as a huge gamble for any club.

Leicester basically demanding more than 80M for Fofana and brushing all bids from Chelsea that does not meet their valuation, and to be fair to Leicester, they can't afford to lose Fofana this season, maybe next season they can accept 50M/60M for him

This could cause Chelsea to pull the plug and maybe try to seriously buy Maguire off us, fingers crossed.

Chelsea signed Lukaku for 100m last season. Even they are not dumb enough to make the same mistake twice with Maguire.

Maguire is going to get eased out of the side and leave when his contact is up. The only possibility is that Mourinho or one of the Italian clubs sign him. Until then let’s cherish captain courageous

Difficult to recoup more than 50M from Maguire

Transfermarkt currently values Maguire at £34M.

With the amount he's being paid in wages I'd say even £50M is totally out of the question. Don't think any top6 club would touch him and the likes of West Ham, Aston Villa, Leicester etc. who might otherwise be willing to take a punt on him probably can't afford his salary.

If you're serious about offloading him I'd say a loan deal is the way to go.

Can anyone actually see anything happening with this? One of those transfers that I just can't imagine, - Harry Maguire holding a Chelsea shirt up before the end of this window. I think the rumour has even less legs than Harry himself.

He will look brilliant in the blue.
Heading and looking like a one man wrecking crew.

I thought he mostly played well for Utd, up until they started to play more aggressive football with a higher line. He doesn't have the agility or speed to turn and run so he was always going to struggle with the changes Ole and Rangnick tried to make and what Ten Hag wants to ultimately do. I do find the complete trashing of him a bit tedious, especially some of the revisionist history you see from dumbasses in YouTube comments (I know) that claim he has always been shit and him sitting on the bench the other day was his best performance for Utd.
