Harry Maguire (Out): Chelsea eyeing a shock swoop for Harry Maguire | Utd say not for sale

Got to be a way of drafting one of the youth team members in to temporarily replace the missing squad number. Being able to sell Maguire to another PL club is too good an opportunity to pass on.

Need to sell in 9 days if we can. Can McTominey play centre back if we ever need cover?

Varane, Martinez, Lindelof, Then as cover McTominey.

You forget Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and even Mengi - say what you will but I'd rather have a trained defender as cover than McT.

This would make a lot of sense. Leicester fans should have fond memories of Maguire doing well for them so would probably welcome him back with open arms. If Fofana goes they need a replacement and with limited time left in the window they might just go for Harry, at least if personal terms can be sorted out.

That would be fine with me. Could even be a loan since Maguire still has 3 years left on his deal after this season. But we'd have to bring in another CB, and I doubt we're prepared to do that.

A crazy idea that would make some sense would be Maguire to Spurs for Davinson Sanchez and something like 10-15M. Maguire would probably do well in a Conte team that sits deep and he can cover all 3 CB positions in it and Sanchez was fantastic at Ajax (not under Ten Hag but a good sign) and he's much faster. Sanchez only has 2 years left so he'll probably be sold next summer or leave as a free transfer anyways the year after.

I do not want to slate him, but it is obvious that he is not suited to the style of football EtH has in mind. He can do a decent job in a team that sits deep so Leicester or even Spurs would be a good place for him. He also would improve some other teams, maybe a switch to Italy would also be an interesting option.
Chelsea would surprise me as I do not see how he fits into Tuchel's philosophy which has more in common with ten Hag's.

Maguire is not a decent backup CB for us at all since he is never suited to playing the high line

We just need to sell Maguire at 40-50M and use the same money to buy a decent backup CB - no need to be world class - from an european team used to playing highline.

Fofana to Chelsea around 80m £ and Harry to LCFC for 45m £ would be good business for all

I think we should only sell if a big offer comes in for him. I don't think we're in a position to be selling him to Chelsea at a bargain price. Bailly has gone, Tuanzebe isn't good enough and Lindelof and Varane have had injury problems over the past year or so. Maguire is never injured and while I don't think he suits ETH style of play, he's a decent option to have and I doubt he will be causing disruption in the dressing room.

Anything under £40m and I wouldn't both shifting him this summer.

Maguire missed more games through injury last season than Lindelof

Maguire has been outright terrible every time he's been on. His injury-free record doesn't help if he plays bad. If an opportunity comes, we should sell him. I don't really see how he can fit into a team build that wants to compete for the title eventually.

Didn't know that but still think we could do with a core of 4 CBs

If the right offer comes in I agree but don't think we need to force him out, not this summer anyway. I think next summer may be the ideal time to sell him, possibly even in January if he has a good world cup.

Yeah but the 4th CB is usually a younger player who won't get a lot of gametime. I really don't mind having Tuanzebe / Mengi as the 4th CB.

I’d sell Maguire and keep Phil Jones as one of the four if it comes to that.

Pretty damning indictment of what ten Hag thinks of him when he fails to get on as a 5th substitute to see out the game. He’s 3rd or 4th choice now after that game. We’d be better served selling to Chelsea and trying to find a cheaper alternative.

while don't think suits ETH style of play, decent option to have and I doubt causing disruption in the dressing room.

If he doesn't suit ETH style of play (and he absolutely doesn't), then he's not a "decent option" to have? We don't need numbers, we need the right players, as last night showed.

And as for the fee, the £80m has gone, it's pointless us/club harping back to it because it was a stupid/artificial figure. If he's not going to play, not selling at say £20m is doubling down on a mistake.

Oh yeah definitely think we'd need to replace if he was to go this summer, wouldn't want to rely on Lindelof with how often Varane gets injured.

I'm just unsure if these Chelsea rumours have any truth to them. It looks to be a smokescreen to put Leicester on the back foot and for Fofana to do his utmost to force a move through before the deadline. If (and I think it is a big if) they did come in I do wonder what we would demand. If memory serves, we paid the full £80m upfront to Leicester, so we will be taking a fairly large hit on that I would imagine - better to take a hit and recoup something than nothing. I feel that if we are to sell then doing so now kind of makes sense - enough time on the contract to demand a higher fee, and if he won't be first choice here, then he will be desperate to play for the World Cup around the corner. I doubt anything happens with this until the last 48hrs of the window and all depending on Fofana.

If he fears losing out on the WC? Perhaps, wouldn't blame him og I hope he does.

And join a team in free fall? And that after having been linked to Chelsea (and, more frivolously, Barcelona).

He should go, not least because he won’t take being a sub but also because we’ve still got Lindelof and Tuanzebe at the club and despite not necessarily liking either of them, they’re both better as backups.

Don’t forget FDJ can also play as CB to cover……

Ten Hag’s comments about needing agility and mobility in the back 4 pretty much spells the end for both Maguire and Shaw. If we can get a right back in, Dalot can be back up for both places.

He’s had an excellent career literally everywhere except here. We’re an absolute player-graveyard….don’t be at all surprised if he goes elsewhere and excels again
Expectations can do that. Also his mistakes are simply silly. Holding on too long, failure to close down channels. The man became a parody of himself. On any other times, we can help him to pick it up. But its been a decade since we challenge and teams are catching up. There is no time for charity. Just ruthless axing. Worked for other big clubs. Cut your losses and move on. Only here we hold onto failing managers, players and CEOs. Tis but a malaise

Having Phil Jones as one of the four would effectively mean we have 3 CBs

With a congested season and competing in the Europa I think the 4th CB may get enough opportunities. If we have a couple of injuries at the back, I'd be worried about having Tuanzebe or Menngi in the mix. I don't rate Maguire but don't think he's as bad as some have made out and nor do I think we should just sell him for whatever offer comes in.

If Chelsea get desperate it's another story but we could get a decent fee for Maguire if we time it right.

Come on Chelsea you know you want him. Fofana is very expensive and injury prone unlike Maguire. ;)

You can unleash James at RWB rather than shoving him at CB. You are playing Loftus-Cheek at RWB ffs.

While we are at it, you can also take Ronaldo and give us Broja. Win-win all around. Ten Hag gets his target man, you get a proven goalscorer.

Nah, Phones was brilliant last season that one game

I could see it, returning 'home' to save them ect. But no idea, and don't really care - just want someone to buy him.

That would be madness. Varane and Martinez should be guaranteed starters next match.
Fans also think we should sell him and keep mctominay and centre defence cover. Ten hag and prior managers / England manager see him every day and can judge better than random fans. He will be part of the team.

If he is happy being a squad option there is no reason to sell him. But he wont be.

What happened to Tuanzebe? He left the Aus tour for personal reasons and not been heard of since? I assumed he left the tour to negotiate a move.

Yeah, good question. I checked his socials, been 6 weeks since the last post. I thought he would have been sold/loaned out by now.

Excellent question yeah. Got lost on the way back? Haven't seen any news regarding him.
