More like released but potentially could be told to come back if new evidence arrived. Kinda like a blanket clause for everything.
Maybe if there's a bigger fight and someone dies, or some thing maguire did that wasn't made clear (e.g. he actually murders someone in the toilet), or maybe the the cops he assault turns up dead or something.
But he's let off with a slap in the wrist. It's not like someone died. It's a non issue for nobody let alone manchester united captain. Embarassing incident at best.
This forum and the English press will always have English players' back. It's hypocritical and sad but that's just the way it is.

And as for posters asking ‘why do people keep mentioning Pogba?’ - I’ve not read much of this thread but can only speak for myself and others I’ve spoken to (not that I’ve been mentioning him in here). I firstly agree that he isn’t captain material and don’t think he should be given the armband, but some (black) folk can only smirk at stories like this - as the ‘off-field antics’ of the likes of Pogba and Sterling are often accused of are barely ‘antics’ at all, and seeing how this plays out and reading many coming to the defence of Maguire’s alleged actions is interesting.

So the Hellenic police don't have a history of wrongful arrests, bribery and violence. Right. OK.
1) The county court of the Cyclades is in Syros. If you are arrested on any island of the Cyclades and the prosecutor decides, after the preliminary examination, that there are enough grounds to press charges, you have to appear in front of court and accept or deny the charges. The judge will decide if the prosecutor has a case or not. It is the standard procedure and i doubt it's much different elsewhere in the West.
2) If you know of any specific way i can hide my income by simply bribing an RIA official without ending up in jail or commit a crime and walk away by handing in a brown envelope, please, feel free to elaborate. Greece went bankrupt because the entanglement between the politicians and the economic elite reached the level where a handful of prominent families would divide the pie of public investments themselves and the politicians would take the taxpayers' money, then they would go on to borrow even more from the markets and pay up to 10x the price of the free market for any investment. They also keep the people "silent" by turning the private sector into a living hell so that everybody's begging them for a job in the public sector (which has resulted to an over bloated and underachieving public sector). I hope you realize that this generalization of Greece, or the Balkans for that matter, is a sewer full of rats is as rancorous as the claim that all English travellers are brawlers and up to no good after a couple of drinks.
3) The police have been given orders to patrol in civilian clothes and keep an eye open for big parties with a lot of people in small places on all Greek islands. Furthermore, knowing that the British are one of the largest group of tourists who choose Greece for their holiday, they were told to expect an influx of English tourists, especially from Spain, who will want to avoid the 14-days of self-isolation that is required for travellers who fly back to England directly from Spain.
4) We don't know what happened. Let's wait until we have all the facts and we can draw safer conclusions.
I agree that the press are milking this in lack of any other sport stories. Nothing will happen. What he supposedly committed was an infraction and even if the judge decides that the case must go to court, he'll be free to return to England until the day the court convenes. Given the fact that there are numerous delays in Greek courts, there's a good chance the infraction will lapse/expire (don't know the legal term in English) before the case even reaches the courtroom. Even if he's found guilty, he'll walk free on parole (again, i don't know the English legal term) and he'll only have problems if he does the same thing in Greece again. And that's the worst case scenario. What will most likely happen is that they'll all agree that it was all a big misunderstanding, he'll say sorry to anyone he might have hit or verbally abused and the charges will be dropped. End of (a ridiculous) story.

There will be doctor, ambulance or hospital records regarding someone getting stabbed so should all get cleared up soon enough.

The fight happened, they got separated and then secret police came along and tried to arrest them. How do we even know Maguire was actually involved in the first fight? perhaps he was resisting arrest because they didn't do anything wrong - but the police wouldn't accept that. They could be claiming assault against an officer when all it was is resisting?
Anyway looks like Maguire won't be going to prison so who cares.
