It really just highlights the gulf in class between internationals and domestic. Always said the same about Maguire since his Leicester days, good player, nothing more.He often looks like a decent player for England. But he’s got it all to prove when it comes to playing for one of the big boys because let’s be honest, for the most part he’s been a calamity at OT.
I don’t think the intense focus on him really helps matters either, but then that’s part and parcel of playing for a massive club. You will be scrutinised like nothing before.
Tried to defend himself and made a mess of it. Apt.
Mainly because everything he says is absolutely ridiculous. He’s the new Moyes or Fellaini. Everything he says people like to turn it into something negative.

what do you want him to say? “I am terrible really”. He’s a Man United defender it takes a special kind of mentality to get to even the level of our worst player if you think he is.

While comments like these are stupid and invite even more pressure, I don't think they come from a place of arrogance but rather insecurity. Also I think he might just be a bit thick.
Either way it's clearly not the mentality we need around the club, yet another one from the Woodward era we need to usher out the club as soon as possible (for his sake as well as ours)
Also it always make me laugh when people are like "he's not wrong" - as though people should say whatever they want provided it's correct. People on here used to say it about Mourinho all the fecking time. Try applying this philosophy to real life and see how far you get.
Almost everyone's been good for England. Look at the opponents they've played against wont be too hard to figure out why they all look good 90% of the time. He's been quite good for England overall, so he's probably right. A move to Aston Villa or Serie A would be the best for him (and England)
If we can secure top 4, then I think we should play him a lot, so he's easier to sell in the summer. It's good he comes with interviews like this - we need buyers for him. His stock needs to rise.
I can't see us getting any offers for him, and expect him to be in the squad next year.
Southgate will keep picking him even if hes benched most of the time, so I don't think he will complain. Which, ironically, makes him a decent squad player.
I'm not sure it's just the idea he plays for a massive club. If it was we'd see the same intense scrutiny over all of our players. He often looks like a decent player for England. Sometimes you can not say anything at all.
Should be a pinned post. People can’t see how bad what he’s said, it’s absolute delusion. Unreal.Absolutely sick and tired of the same old "Maguire" does well for England post on this thread. Have you seen the average quality of opposition he faces? Have you taken into consideration the vast gulf in quality between England and whomever they're usually against?
Of course he fecking looks good, Columbo! You could plug in any other English defender and they'd do just as well as he has done, but without the incessant handjobs from the media and Caf apologists.
Club captain who has been benched says has nothing to prove. Enjoy him while he is hereTo me it just shows he has confidence in himself which I want for all of our players. I much rather see this tone from him than stirring up some controversy or complaining about the club

"I'm always looking to improve and fight for my spot. At this level you can't afford to be complacent and I know there are always brilliant players looking to push into the starting XI around me so I need to stay sharp and at my best or I know I'll be passed up"
Wow I came up with that in 10 seconds. It's not that hard to give a non-deluded answer that doesnt' reek of complacency
