From my captain shall always play to not a captain benchwarmer. Savage.

The balls on Ten Hag to basically immediately bench his £80m captain. He's not messing around. Proving to be an absolutely brilliant decision too

Harry who? Can’t see him ever being a consistent starter again. Possibly value for money wise the worst signing we’ve ever made.

I trust ETH to be able to shine Maguire into a good player. We have not had a coach who can improve players for years but I have new hope for players like Maguire now.

Martinez has been in the top 3 CB in the league this year, Varane is pure class. How does a guy who takes 3 years to turn around make the team in big games? Well there can be a spot for him at Sheriff, if he is lucky.

There’s still a place for Maguire in the squad but he’s going to have to put in some almighty performances when he gets chances in the EL. If he can’t manage that he’ll be off to Newcastle in the summer.

The way Ten Hag had Dalot playing last night, I wouldn't rule out anyone showing serious improvement.

But Varane and Martinez is the undoubted combo that needs to stay in tact for all the main games.

if only we couldve sold over the summer and got a decent fee for him. Obviously would take a loss but couldve prob got a CB who fits the system and an actual number 9 that can stay healthy/fit the system had we spent wisely. That wouldve made it almost a perfect window.

I don’t know if he’s still relevant to adapt to the style of football that ETH wants us to play. None the less, good to hear that he’s working hard in training and he undoubtedly deserves to be included in the squad whilst he’s under contract.

Feels like he'll definitely be sold in the summer, I'm sure Chelsea or Newcastle will take him (obviously we'll have to take a loss on the 80m we spent)

To me it's a bit off the way people come in just to stick the boot in when he's not even playing. I think there's quite enough negativity around the guy outside the club. We are actually going to have to use the player, at the very least the fans in the stadium will hopefully not have the attitude of some on here because it's totally counterproductive.

I can honestly see Leicester or Newcastle moving for him in the Jan window.

He’s likely 4th choice at this point, which he can only improve upon by training really hard and playing better than he ever has done before. We’ve seen that from other squad members, under ETH, who were previously written off. So no reason he can’t do it too. Would be great for the squad to have as much competition for places as possible, especially when the need to rotate arrives. So fingers crossed he can find his best form again. That said, I have no faith in his current version, even if I think he has the capability to be pretty good.

Longer term thinking, I.e. in the summer, it seems probable/preferable that we manage to sell him for an okay fee and reinvest the money in reliable deputy/potential successor to Varane. Varane won’t stay fit all season, he’ll need managing and resting at times, so fingers crossed ETH can work his magic on Maguire.

Some people suggesting to sell Maguire in January but that's surely not happening. He'll get some games over the season to try and prove his worth. Harry was solid for us in 2019/20 and 20/21 seasons imo, then last season was just terrible for both him and whole squad and now this season is make or break. Club paid 80M pounds so if he doesn't improve they'll want to sell come summer.

He and Lindelof will still have a big part to play this season whether fans like it or not  .

Glad he's getting back to help but Varane and Martinez are the undisputed best centre back pairing on the evidence so far.

What do you determine as a ‘big part to play’?

What do you determine as a ‘big part to play’?
Well, Varane staying fit and a lot of games between now and the end of the season seems to suggest a possible 10-20 games, some of them will be important ones and not meaningless league cup ties for instance. I think they will play some big games here and there due to injuries/suspension/fatigue of the main duo and will have to contribute.

Lindelof should be ahead of him in the pecking order for any game time

As i suspected, sadly :(

Better hope he finds his form again fast. At least he and Lindelof are coming into a team with lots of confidence, good form and a small Argentinian pitbull beside them at the back . Casemiro is also a huge benefit.

Is he mysteriously going to come back into contention? Looks like he'll be starting for England in the World Cup after all.
