I watched the game back last night
Why would you do such a thing?
I watched the game back last night
Your forgot to put DDG as one of the weakest links...Still standby that there are players performing much worse than Maguire, but because of his price tag and captaincy he is being tagged as the worst of the worse.
I agree he needs captaincy removing but who replaces him as captain? Ronnie who wants to leave? the petulant underperforming Bruno,? the error prone Llama in goal ? Luke 'biscuit boy' Shaw? Sir Rashford? MCSAUCE? Varane possibly one option but he isnt even in the team and he has a poor injury record to boot....i dont see a single viable captain there.....
I watched the game back last night and the weakest 4 players by some way were Dalot, Shaw, Bruno and Rashford......with Sancho not too far behind.
I think AWB is poor but man he cant be any worse than Dalot was..
Just put it to a vote. There's nobody in the side who is a natural, stand-out candidate so let the team decide who their leader on the field is.Still standby that there are players performing much worse than Maguire, but because of his price tag and captaincy he is being tagged as the worst of the worse.

Retaining him as captain was a missed opportunity by ETH to reset the existing culture at the club.
Maguire unfortunately is not only not performing well enough to start and has not been for a long time but also is the figurehead as captain of what has been a disastrous and calamitous few years in terms of team performance.
All of Maguire’s focus should be on improving his own individual performances and being selected for the team based on that alone. I would have more respect for him if he stood down to do just that but i very much doubt that happens anytime soon.

One thing I will say which is separate to the point about captaincy is that if I were going to replace one centre back in the line up at the moment, it would not be Maguire.
You're both deluded.
He's detrimal to our downfall.
Against Brentford he was crucial to our poor start.
Sure, DDG fumbled the goal, but it was only a matter of time before we conceded.
Why?
Because Harry had the ball and didn't know what do to with it 90% of the time.
That ball to Eriksen which led to their first chance was criminal.
His flapping of the arms and pointing where to pass is downright idiotic.
He instills fear in his teammates.
He makes us play with fear and zero confidence.

It would also have brought unnecessary pressure/negative media attention to himself. As soon as he changes captain every single one of his media appearances would've been poisoned with questions about his decision to change captain.
Potentially but if ETH responded to those questions from the media with a culture reset and a new beginning and wanting to select a captain based on what he believes he wants his captain to be (ideally performing well enough to play and well respected within the group - I suspect both are not being achieved) I suspect those questions would be put to bed pretty quickly.
I think the vast majority were surprised he was retained based on my conversations and observations on this forum?
Deluded...hahaha,...that's the type of comment i'd expect from someone who doesnt understand the game....i bet you were one of those several posters blaming Maguire for a goal on matchday thread last season when he was sat on the bench.
The guy hasnt been great, he isnt a great leader but the critique of him on here and on fan channels is way over the top. Cant tell me if you take him out of the team all of a sudden players are gonna start trying again AND the team are gonna flourish?
Rid him of the captaincy, fine by me, give the captaincy to....... who?
Varane was injured though..So bad. How he is still starting over Varane i'll never know.
Some of us were against this signing from the off. It's crazy the club didn't see his defiencies and that he didn't have the mentality to play for United. Don't we look at a player's total profile before bidding for them? His signing highlights is every thing thats wrong with the club. Overing pay for an average player and rewarding him with the honour of captaining this club even though he has neither the ability or the wherewithal to lead or take responsibility. Remember this is a guy who had to come out and justify his role in the car crash interview last year.
I wonder who is pushing the captaincy thing in the media? Which player (s) wants him out so bad? Who would have designs on this stupid captaincy?
Rashford? DDG? And again, not liking the captain is still no excuse for performing badly.
No we dont. We have no decision making structure and no DoF worthy of the name. Its a joke and a shamble. Nothing has changed. Some of us were against this signing from the off. FDJ when he signsWho would you make captain?
Yes. Excatly that.
We play with 60 to 70% of possession.
Most of it is circulating between our CB's.
Remove squareheaded slab from the equation and you get more confidence on the ball, faster circulation of the ball and you get into the rhythm of the game faster.
Suddenly all our players don't shit themselves when defending because they know they have capable centerbacks behind them.
The mentality of team skyrockets and we start winning games.
Yes, it's that simple.
When ETH say that he starts because he's the captain? I didn't know this was a thing for us.You're focusing too much on the captaincy issue.
I don't think they're highlighting that.
Says clearly that the players have doubt in his STARTING privileges.
And i concur.
Maguire has been OK so far, not flawless but OK, but he can't cover for the huge flaws in the 4 players immediately around him.
Crazy decision. Sickens me how stupid the people running the club are.Yeah I was in that boat aswell. Never wanted him in the first place (Fofana was the better choice even back then) but EW and Ole wanted their shiny toy. The most expensive defender in the World is a player who lacks the basic ability to…defend.

If the fans could see that, how the hell did the club miss this about him? It's really depressing.
He he was not ok. He is the main reason why our defence looks so poor. Most if time he is nowhere near danger zone, slow in reactions when he is and his passing (decision making) is awful. He makes whole defence worse.Maguire has been OK so far, not flawless but OK, but he can't cover for the huge flaws in the 4 players immediately around him.
25 - 30m would be huge success, but seriously this lad needs to go and that's upmost priority in this. He could do really well in a steady pace team. How much could we sell him for, and to who?

Some people apply ridiculous standard for him; "Did he fecked up something? No. See, he looked good then"
What i am expecting from 80 mil worth United defender and team captain? Are you joking? What are you expecting from main United striker? 30 goals per season, right? Same goes for Maguire. I expect from him to organise defence, anticipate danger, gives boost to other players. I expect from him to make a difference not just having a game where "he didn't anything wrong".What are you expecting him to do? Win the aerial duels for martinez? Cover the Rb spot for the often missing dalot, claim crosses and sweep for de gea to take pressure of himself? Go into the no 6 posistion and pass the ball to himself ensure he dosent get caught on it? All while doing his own defensive duties of course?
Some people are going at him about the 4th goal? After a combination of his CB partner his GK and his DM had gifted the opposition a 3 goal lead he gets caught very very high in an attempt to overload brentfords defences and In fairness if de gea who should of been quite high up the pitch himself considering where the CBs where and Shaw who gets beaten far to easily had done there jobs it wouldn't of even been a problem.
