I've never really taken to him, he's just kind of there. He's pretty average, I struggle to see all these alleged leadership qualities and we got absolutely rinsed by Leicester. He would have been squad level material at best under Fergie. Whisper this quietly too, but if he wasn't English, he wouldn't be rated near as highly as he is.

I thought he was smarter than trying the same thing twice in matter of weeks and failing to get a foul, absolute fecking moron you are Harry.

His post match interviews were almost as bad as the game. Can't stand the fact he is our Captain, hopefully our next manager will have other ideas.

I’ve learned to not listen to post interview matches after a bad result. You’re just going to hear a common few sentences. “ We were the better team , we were unlucky. Insert team are a decent side at home “ it’s not really worth listening to.

I know I can't help myself. Still his do annoy me the most, I like listening to Bruno, Scott etc but not this pillock.

I thought he did OK today. He tried to force the issue and was in and around their box for large periods for a CB. If the other 9 outfield players had tried to make something happen as much as he did we wouldn’t be talking about 2 points dropped. With all our exciting forwards and attacking players, he was the one who put in a great header at the end that was almost the winner. Didn’t see anything from our front 3 worth noting at all today, only Greenwood can hold his head high for his cameo.

I do find a lot of his post match stuff a bit repetitive after bad results but I was happy to hear him call out the poor decisions we’ve been getting lately after the game today. We can call it ‘Rawkish’ etc but no one else seems to be making big noises about these decisions and then we all whinge that we’re too soft. He was calling for the ref to sort himself out in the game as well.

People question his leadership but who was the player driving forward with the ball constantly, taking risks, trying to make something happen? Who almost won it at the end with a towering header?

I don’t think you can fault his will to win. I wish Rashford and Martial would show similar endeavour

Unlucky not to win it at the end. He's giving everything he's got as opposed to some others in these team that get a far less rough ride from our fans.

Do you really believe he's giving everything when players are getting past him for goalscoring chances like Diagne did? He did some of the extras, with dribbles down the left and a late header that was saved. But when it came to actually defending I dont see how he's giving everything when he was beaten

Losing a duel doesn't mean you're not trying.

Personally wouldn't class it a duel the ball was overrun in terms of the pace Diagne shouldn't have gained possession. I couldn't care less if Maguire tries or not because it doesn't erase the reality that he's a big mistake per game defender.

He’s so average. On his absolute peak he’s just ok as long as we don’t press too high.

But he’s simply not good enough along with Lindelof if we want to be successful. When we look at the centre backs we’ve had in the past he wouldn’t be anywhere near the level they were. Even the likes of Henning Berg, Ronnie Johnson, David May, Johnny Evans were all better than him.

The big worry is I can see us being reluctant to dispose of him for a few years yet.

Agreed. “Oh it’s always hard to come here”. Can we please stop making excuses like this against cannon fodder? They’re second bottom for a good reason. We’re Manchester United, it’s ok to just hold your hands up and say we weren’t good enough today.

He is our best CB. We need a better defender to play with him but no way I’d get rid of him. He did more than most to drive us forward today and showed the others how easy it was to run into their box with the ball. Could have scored. I like him.

I don’t argue his defending on the deck isn’t shaky but to say he’s trash is plain daft. We’ll get him a decent partner and together they’ll shore us up. No major issue; he’s here to stay.

No idea why he keeps going to ground looking for a foul when there’s no need. Just as was the case against Everton he was in complete control of the situation. By going down and looking for the foul he was giving up that control and leaving it up to the officials to make the decision. It’s irrelevant whether it’s a foul or not. He should just deal with it.

I'll say it loudly.

Harry Maguire is the definition of both being overrated horrendously and underrated. But not in the same proportions.

He did well, ok in a number of games, exceptional in a few too but:
"He's the best CB we have," is not good enough if we want to challenge for top tier consistently.
Either he improves or we find a way to win convincingly despite his presence or we win by mitigating his deficiencies.
The entire team looks vulnerable to all manner of regular counters whenever we play.
He cannot deal quickly enough in high pressure situations at the highest level consistently enough. He is human, he is trying hard, he does his best and he is a very able and good centre back.
He just doesn't suit us and it's glaring after 2 seasons.
They say CBs mature later, but in the modern game, when your pace goes you rely on nous and reading the game (see Ramos, Thiago Silva, Rio, Vidic, even Terry et al.

"but but but but muh agenda"

Listen, he has improved in passing quicker, more between the lines and moving forwards. Good.
But what is the point if defensively he's fumbling around like the Heavy Tank on F-Zero 64?
And we're forced to play with a double-edge high backline when attacking because we can't hold onto a lead or prevent oppo teams dominating counters?

He isn't bad. He just isn't top-tier.
And sadly I don't think he can reach that.
I am more than happy to be proved wrong; but as a team and as an individual, we are accommodating him and I feel it's costing us more than it helps us.

He is doing this to be clever but I suspect it's because it's fear that he'll fumble. He has enough talent to not worry on the ball but he isn't as balletic as Stones.
I tell you what; saying all of that I still expect him to be parried with Stones for England and it might do him the world of good to get a good tournament run. The penny may drop yet.

When did Diagne get past him? I remember one occasion where Diagne fouled him and had an effort on goal which would have obviously been ruled out had he scored. However, you can’t be referring to that surely, as that would so obviously be entirely agenda driven?

Why wouldnt it be given as a foul if it was going to be given as a foul?

Last match was dive but now it looked more like he was thrown to the ground.

But he's the most expensive defender on the planet! We broke the world record for him..

I still don’t know why Ole made him captain, he is one of the least inspiring players on our team.

Ive said it before but spending £80M on him is some of the worst business we’ve done, especially when you look next door at City with Ruben Dias he has transformed their defence.

He’s not that bad today. He even do a better job as left winger than our sulking frenchman

The quote about we shouldn't expect to create 10 chances against WBA was honestly. I think my biggest problem with him isn't his defensive effort, because he's decent/above average, it's that he's a terrible captain.

Why wouldnt it be given as a foul if it was going to be given as a foul?
Refs are presumably instructed to play on and let the play conclude if there is a goalscoring chance. Maguire confirmed that the ref said it would have been disallowed.

I've seen plenty of fouls given when there might have been a goalscoring chance otherwise. It wasnt given as a foul, he had a chance and didnt score. After the match its easy to say whatever is easiest to get rid of someone complaining

Absolute rubbish, city would steam role WBA because they have a world class manager and are a very cohesive team. Laporte is definitively better than Maguire and Dias has made more of an impact having considerably less time in England. The reality is if Maguire goes to city he's coming off the bench.

We are one of the highest scorers in the league, the issue is not with the attack outright it's that we cannot guarantee a lead with such a poor defensive line. You cannot save with a hole in your pocket and sooner or later either Maguire is partnered with a better defender or he's rotated.
Which is my point.....
Having a great manager with a great system eliminates any dependency on a single player.

And regarding our attack. 15 goals are against Southampton and leeds in two games. We are fine If we get an early lead, but If not it’s basically goodnight. There have been a few games this season where some players have come up with great individually goals which has then masked our lack of style of play.

If you look back at all the games against the lower sides since Ole has been here you’ll see the truth.
This man has no clue on how to break down a side or how to make substitutes. Every substitute is almost a like for like.
Both of these things points to a lack of tactical awareness and know how.

We've had multiple cases this season where an obvious foul wasn't called even after the goal was scored. Including today. You just can't bet on that.

I am ole out but I don't think that our manager is that stupid. Irrespective of that he doesn't come across as a person who micromanage his players.

They train every day, they coach players on positions they need to take. It’s called coaching. He also stands in the coaching areas and instructs players from there during games, if there’s an issue he’s seeing he will change. If a manager isn’t micromanaging his players, then why would he be there? Patterns of play are very much worked on continuously, so it becomes second nature.

Why did it take so long for him to get in the box when we were chasing the game?

He was a better winger than Martial today.

You've taken this loss pretty hard huh? He was fouled for the one time where the striker got past him.

Its kind of like Jones in the beginning, in the sense that he always driving forward with the ball.
Don't get me wrong, Jones was quite promising in the beginning, when he was playing like the new Duncan Edwards.

Why did it take so long for him to get in the box when we were chasing the game?

He was a better winger than Martial today.
And more influential in midfield than Fred and McTominay. He was driving us forward and one of the few to show urgency. How people can blame him for today is beyond me.

You've taken this draw insanely hard huh? So much so you think we lost and a foul was given when it wasnt.

You know they didn't score, right? From that time where Maguire was fouled, and the referee said it'd have been given as a foul if he scored...

Yeah he attacked well
Yeah he took the initiative and created chances from CB
Yeah he almost scored a last minute wonder goal

BUT REMEMBER THAT TIME HE WAS FOULED AND THEY DIDN'T SCORE? Maguire out.
