Remember when there was a time that people didn't think he was good enough?

There was also no movement what so ever from McFred who were never available for a through pass.Struggled in the air against the tall Burnley players. At fault for their goal from the corner.
Wish Maguire and Lindelof could play at a far higher tempo. They take so much time out of the game, sitting on the ball, doing nothing.
Terrible defender not helped to be fair by this insistence on zonal marking. Proof that we will never challenge for the title again until we go out and buy a property world class defender because Maguire is clearly not that
You could put any defender in a zonal marking team and he is going to get beat for that sort of headers. It is absolutely crazy to do so.
Had Maguire scored the same goal by 'bullying' Tarkowski, VAR would have pulled it back.Got bullied by tarkowski.
I excused him for the goal but he is supposed to be captain and should take more responsibility and be aware of the dangers

The goal was more on AWB (who was man marking Tarkowski) than Maguire (who appeared to be defending zonally on the 6 yard line).
Perhaps Maguire could have done a bit more, but I don't think he was given much of a chance.
The real issue was that no central defender was ever going to be able stop an onrushing attacking who was carrying as much pace and height as Tarkowski. The key to that bit of play was for AWB to slow down Tarkkowski's run so that the deeper man could have a chance in a 1v1 duel. That's the way it would have been worked on in training. When a speeding body hits an equal static body, the static body is going to lose.

Should've signed Tarkowski for half the price
Sadly +1 -1 doesn't equal a good performance for a defender, even if we assume that his tackle had prevented an otherwise sure goal.He actually made a goal saving tackle at one point too, so is even for goals he's responsible for.
Quite a patchy performance from him — a lot of good moves mixed with a lot of questionable ones, including the mistake for their goal.
The only possible excuse for him is that our tactics were weird as our defense stayed quite deep while both of our holding midfielders pushed forward, leaving a huge gap behind them. And it's not like we don't know that out centre back pairing struggles in such situations... Top defender shouldn't be so exposed to possible one-on-one scenarios, but we all know and Ole knows that he is, so at least McTominay's positioning was questionable, he should've stayed deeper and helped cover that area.

He can't win. He puts in a good performance and it's "oh yeah he cost X Million" and when there's a slip up it's "I told you so".It’s funny that some posters waits for the moment Harry has a bad/weaker game and immediately storm to this thread and tell everyone about it.
If we as a team are set out to defend set pieces zonally then I don't know how much organisation he could have done there, Tarkowski had the run on him. Defending set pieces has been our biggest issue this season so the blame on the organisation for them should lay with the manager here I think. AWB shouldn't have been marking him either.I excused him for the goal but he is supposed to be captain and should take more responsibility and be aware of the dangers

seems to get caught on the wrong side of his man too much.
I thought overall he was ok, not the disaster some are making out.The only possible excuse for him is that our tactics were weird as our defense stayed quite deep while both of our holding midfielders pushed forward, leaving a huge gap behind

I'm speaking in general not just on the goal.Wasn’t ‘his man’ so keep trying...

He was being marked by AWB, you need to look harder.Certainly looked like he was in his zone
There is no offside for corner kicks. So if opposition players stand next to our keeper then our players also need to tag along with them. Sometimes we concede a goal. It is not a big deal. Occassionally strikers can miss opportunity, defenders can also lose their man.You can’t necessarily blame him for losing the header against Tarkovski for the goal today but you can blame him for the way we set up defending crosses at set pieces. We are too deep and and continue to allow big strong centre halves/forwards a 6 yard running start on our defenders. We will keep conceding this type of goal unless we change how we set up and mark attacking runners at set pieces. Maguire as the senior defender (and captain) should be driving this with the so called ‘coaches,’ yet I see us getting poorer if anything, not better.

Never ceases to amaze me how much Maguire supporters will throw every other player under the bus.
Wan Bisakka should not be marking the opponents most dangerous players at set pieces while Maguire stands marking air. Thats the problem.
Maguire is supposed to be captain it is up to him to sort these things out on the field and be aware of the dangers.
Instead he is never in the right place at the right time and it keeps costing us.
It isn't though is it. Zonal marking is a tactical choice made by the coaches. AWB was marking JT on the edge of the box, he lost him and JT then had a run on the ball which made it extemely hard for Maguire to win the challenge because of physics.
