He's had a good season averaging 7/10 most games according to who scored. Against Watford he got a 7.3/10 . Stop nitpicking.
Not surprised at that rating. He's been good. He's had a good season averaging 7/10 most games according to who scored. Against Watford he got a 7.3/10 . Stop nitpicking.
We should petition to the FA to let us use 2 balls during a game.
1 for the team and then 1 for Maguire himself.
He loves to hold onto the ball for so long without doing anything.
Can't blame the scouts on this one. Marcel Bout from my understanding vetoed Mourinho's move for him last season which Woodward agreed upon. So Ole signed him and AWB to change the culture in the dressing room which Woodward bought into.
I wouldn't trust Castles on this due to his obvious bias towards Mourinho.According to Duncan Castles, it was club/scouts who wanted Maguire and Jose wasn't convinced by the player. He wanted more experienced option.
Well, if whoscored says so...He's had a good season averaging 7/10 most games according to who scored. Against Watford he got a 7.3/10 . Stop nitpicking.

There was talk of Mourinho wanting Godin and then Aldeweireld but both were deemed either too old or too expensive. Our scouts did have younger targets in mind and one name they put forward was William Saliba from what i've heard but Mourinho didn't agree.
Mourinho used his personal scouts to sign two CBs in Bailly and Lindelof and the club wasn't gonna grant his wish for a 3rd. The issue quite clearly was that the club wanted Mourinho to sign players with a longterm approach and he did try going that route but it wasn't fruitful so he then decided to revert to type which caused a problem with the club and the senior scouts who were on a different page.
Mourinho was the wrong manager for us post LVG. He also would've been the wrong manager for us post SAF due to his short-term approach.
It was because he tries to make Jose look the innocent party during his spell as manager at United by making Woodward seem the main culprit. But in reality Mourinho was just as culpable as Woodward, if not more so.It wasn't bias towards Jose though, he said it when Maguire started well and people were going with "Woodward spent more money year later to sign Jose target".

Castles has been saying the same before we signed Maguire because the criticism towards Jose was that he wanted a player that Leicester were asking a ridiculous amount for and the club were right not to bow down to the demands of Leicester which most fans agreed with. Castles' response was that Jose didn't want him and he was infact a club target and he has to maintain that line now.In other cases he was, not sure how he is biased in this case when he is saying that's against Jose or something that's against the excuse Jose fans used.
Jose fans came up with "ManUtd signed Jose's target year later for bigger fee, could have signed for 65 million. Woodward didn't back him"
Duncan = "Maugire wasn't Jose's target, he was club's target. He was never convinced by the player"
This was back in October when Maguire was playing well. Not sure how this is making Jose innocent party here. If anything he is saying Jose was one of the reason for not signing CB.
Jose is obviously culpable and one of the reason for all the mess, discussion is not on that. Some even call me Jose hater for saying Jose is one of the reason why we are shit now. It's about whether Jose wanted Maguire or not, at least going by Jose's mouthpiece "Maguire wasn't, he wanted more experienced player" and he said it when Maguire was playing well.
If he said it this week when Maguire stock is going down then yeah, he was biased with his interview, not back in October.

The reason he said that was to show people that were criticising Mourinho, that he (Mourinho) didn't want the overpriced Maguire and it was the club who wanted him instead and Maguire was lumped on Jose. He was trying to absolve Mourinho of any blame in targeting the player due to the criticism over the potential transfer fee and he has stayed consistent in saying that since last year. He may change his tune in the future like he did with Lindelof but thus far he's stayed consistent. Not sure when he said that, I remember him saying that in October, not before we signed.
Even if he said that, not sure how that would be biased towards Jose. That means Jose himself wasn't sure of his targets, so club was right not to back him. How would that help Jose and Duncan Castles agenda?
Also Duncan Castles don't have to be consistent with his words. He is already proven liar who just changes the words to suit Jose, he did that with Lindelof. So it won't be a problem for him to change again for Maguire too.

If you look at the whole season I think he has been good. What is annoying a lot of people, myself included, is that he takes too long time with the ball. This is something that won’t have negative impact in the whoscored rating, I think it even adds points to his rating as it increases his possession. He's had a good season averaging 7/10 most games according to who scored. To change the culture and Maguire was deemed the right fit from both a cultural and footballing pov.... So we signed a player for £80 million to prove a point about our culture?
That can't be right... and if it is, thats really dumb.

I agree. Sometimes he looks like an American Football quarter back trying to find his pass. Same with Lindelof. But he he rarely finds anyone taking the run. I don’t mind this part as it doesn’t stall the game that much and I think it brings some value. What I don’t like is when he is trotting forward slowly with the ball, and always ending up giving it to a central midfielder anyway. It must go much faster.Maguire is a ball playing defender and it's one of the prime reasons we got him for. He's looking for runners and unfortunately doesn't find anyone most of the time. Simplest thing for him would be to pass it sideways like Smalling used to do but we used to berate him for that. It's a coaching issue hopefully sorted out sooner.

Both him and Lindelof seem to ignore Fred at times when he is dropping to deep to collect the ball, like they don’t want him there and instead want him higher up.
Agreed.Got to feel for him. Playing next to Lindelof and De gea in defence is the dream for no one. He is having to do all the defending by himself.
Gary should be glad he never got to play in a defence with De gea as the goalkeeper.Ah yes it is David De Gea's fault that Harry Maguire is constantly ball watching or takes 5000000 touches before he can pass forward which kills the whole move. The guy looks like a Sunday league clogger, moves like a VLCC, is decent in the air, can pass but hardly Bonucci. When you realise the club just made him the most expensive defender of all time.. of all time. Genuinely, what does he have that Gary Cahill didn't?
I like him because I feel like he does the central defence role both at RCB & LCB by himself and goes on runs. Hope we may get Smalling back or a partnership so he can tone it down a bit.
He and Smalling seem a really good pairing
Thought he was our worst player today and started very poorly. His lack of pace is always causing problems.
I believe smalling has informed the club that he wishes to stay in Roma
Same here.?? I'm clearly a bad judge, because I thought he was very good today,
We started poorly in defending when they hit us on the break, but after that he looked good. It was not much between him and Lindelöf though. Also Mctominay only played a half so maybe he was worse or Rashford even if he scored.?? I'm clearly a bad judge, because I thought he was very good today,
I think Roma were offered to buy him for £18 million but they did not accept this. Then I hope we sell him for bucket loads because he is worth loads more than we bought players like Lindelof & Bailly for - hate that we sell players for pennies.
Knowing us we probably did a deal before he hit any form though.
