Why shouldn't they accept it? If they think he really is worth £50m then they should be confident he would score at least 20 goals a season. if they don't accept it then they are saying they are not confident he will do it and thus he is not worth £50m. Maybe these are the discussions Ed is having at this moment with Levy;)
Because it's not entirely a question of what they think of his ability and potential. What if he breaks his leg in his first season and is never the same again, they'd miss out on £20m worth of transfer fee cause they agreed to have it tied up in the future with factors entirely out of their control. Adds on do have a place in transfers but not 40% worth of a mega deal.

Could we not just buy Griezmann for that kind of money? He release clause is around 55M and is a far better player.
Very different players. We arguably have depay to do close to exactly what Greizmanne does. And I think he prefers the left as well.

£60 million? Levynomics working its way even into the minds of the fans now.

With the club he's at and the length of his contract he's signed to, it wouldn't be worth going in for him at this late stage. It wouldn't make sense for Spurs either as they wouldn't be able to restrengthen to anywhere near his level even with their new cash so late in the window.

The bar is low if you have as benchmark our worst ever signing.
Is he worse than Verón though?

Both had a £15m loss involved in the resale, but you could argue that the amount was a bigger deal to 2001 United than 2015 United. We also had to put up with two lacklustre seasons from Juan rather than just one with Angel.

Somewhat off topic but curious as to what is our worst signing ever.

Played largely down the middle last season so he'll be taking Adnan's position in the current team. Good goals return, and much needed creativity, but yea still not an out and out goal scorer.
He's not that creative though is he? Comes across as more of a goalscorer to me although I've seen him on and off only. If he can perform on the right he'd be ideal. I'd rather us have a better playmaker in the middle than him.

Yes but what if we pay £50m and he breaks his leg in his first season - take it or leave it Levy!!

He's definitely more creative than any attacking player we have bar Mata. How many top creative #10s are out there right now anyway. We have one of them ourselves already.

Not sure Van Gaal likes Mata in the middle but:

-------Rooney---------
Memphis---Griezmann
----Herrera/Mata-------
-----Schmidfield-------

looks pretty damn good. 2 fast wide players desperate to get in behind and score goals, Rooney in the box and setting them up and either a very solid 3 man midfield or a pivot with Mata in dreamland with those options ahead.

He's not all that creative really. He's nothing like a James rodriguez for example. He's a genuine wide forward/second striker. His main aim is scoring goals and is particularly dangerous in transition. To have him in a front line with Depay and rooney we'd need a better midfield unit than we have as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather we just let Depay fulfil that role in our team while we look for someone different.

has to be the way forward!!!!. Dreamland stuff.

That is exactly what Id like to see. I hope LVG rates Griezmann as much as most of us here do.

He's struggling this season but Spurs have looked pretty awful. Their 'midfield' has been non-existent thus far.

Should have scored today. Very average display tonight, wasn't poor but could have been better.

Thought his overall play was fine but there can be no excuses for those missed chances they did end up costing Spurs two points in this game.

I say leave Rooney up top, wait a year, Spurs' struggles might affect his return so his price is less, then consider the option next season. I would say no to premier league talent though unless they force the move and go for cheaper, due to the money of the premier league clubs now they might not be so keen to sell with the exception of a player in his final season.

Thought he tried a-bit too hard in the first half, especially. He took the wrong option on several occasions and took on some stupid shots. He looks a man desperate to score his first goal of the season and maybe the pressure is getting to him.

Had 2 great chances to score but fecked it up. Needs a goal sharpish to kick off his season and get his confidence back up.

obviously this season we're measuring against an impossibly excellent season, whereas last year it was all breaking new ground.

not to mention playing in such an average team.

Thought he lead the line okay. Just the team in general has been shit. Would still have him up top instead of Rooney. The goals will come for him.

Man I sound like a pundit giving Rooney praise.

Funny that people will jump on kanes boots for not scoring but nothing about diego costa and the likes. I'd hate tk be a striker in the spurs team; i really would. Absolutely no cohesion.

Along way to go before we judge anyone; but some of the posters here seems like they also knew that batefembi gomis was going to be the player of the month.

Kane played well today if you look past those two missed chances good movement and some good link up play from him, Costa on the other hand was awful nothing came of for him and he spent most of the game whining to the ref.

far too senisble for on here! haha. Best take that common sense of yours and keep it to yourself. You will only upset the Cafe'tards

I think it needs to be remembered in this Spurs team that Kane is almost expected to create all the chances and score them! That's a pretty difficult task to do. If he had a bit more support then I'm sure he'd be doing a lot better so far this season. Still early days though of course.

Was last season an Aaron Ramseyesque prolonged, purple patch of form? It's starting to seem that way.

A very, very good player undeniably with further scope for improvement, but by no means a world-beater. It wouldn't surprise me if last season is the best season he ever has, though time will tell. He's certainly set the bar high in fairness.

Just to clarify, I do rate him and I highly doubt he will be a one-season wonder, but we were absolutely right not to move for him this season. Carries far too much risk. I don't think his overall game has been poor though, he's created some good chances and demonstrated some decent hold-up play. Just see him struggling quite a bit with the special attention defenders will pay to him now.

Signing Son should aid him a great deal. Someone to deflect attention away from Kane and pose another threat to defenders - giving Kane more space to operate in the process. Can only benefit him.

Come on spoons you're here long enough to know how this works. Glaston is adamant he will never leave, ever, because he goes to bed in Spurs jammies and spurs aren't a selling club like

Ahh yeah he's off. We're going to buy him and turn him into a proper player.

First of all, the season people aren't getting on Costa's back (yet) is because he is a proven player at the top level over more then one season. The evidence would suggest that he will find his scoring boots sooner rather then later. Same goes when the likes of Aguero or Benzema go through a goal drought. They all have a pedigree that allows people to think its just poor form.

Kane doesn't have that pedigree. He has had one good season, and the jury is out as to whether that's his true level, or just a one season wonder. No one hates him, or is itching to jump on his back. Thats just silly talk.

Is two seasons really that much more proof than one? One good year at Atletico and one at Chelsea (one in which he didn't look amazing and got injured too).

I do believe Kane was a one season thing though. I've got a bet with a mate that he won't get 20 goals overall this year (similarly a second bet that Benteke won't score 15 league goals) and I'm pretty damn confident in that.
