No-brainer for me. Haaland is younger and will be cheaper.

But yeah, surprised Harry hasn't pushed for a move. Could've easily gone to Madrid before the pandemic. As good as Spurs are doing, can't see them winning anything. Certainly nothing of note.

The pandemic has thrown a spanner into the works for a lot of big players and clubs planning moves and sales. I think we will see a lot of big players stay put for the next couple years who otherwise would have moved in a big transfer this summer or next (Kane, Mane/Salah, Pogba, Auba was arguably in this situation last summer). There just aren't many clubs capable of spending huge money on a player and, if they do so, its going to be spent on a massive young talent like Mbappe or Haaland. The days of Spanish clubs spending stupid money on players at the tail end of their primes like Hazard or Griezmann are over, at least for a while.

Kane is particularly tricky because Levy is doing the selling and because he is such an iconic player for the club. The price Spurs would need to sell him is probably far far higher than the price anybody is willing to pay for him in the current climate. My guess is that he stays there through his decline phase of the next 3-4 years, then leaves for a far lesser sum around age 31-32 in order to chase silverware at another club as a more complimentary player.

This is a big problem for alot of English based players. If you have an aim of winning trophies, you sign a 5 year contract at the age of 26 at Spurs, there is no way the club lets you leave for less than £120m. We have seen it with Zaha, Grealish, Maguire, Maddison etc..

What it also does is when a team actually buys you, you're already under pressure because of the price tag.

I do not understand why these players representatives do not have a release clause if certain expectations at the club are not met.

I agree. I guess its because English clubs are pretty adamant about not including release clauses in contracts. But you'd think that more agents would demand them.

It does both, protects the club and the player. A club like Spurs and Harry Kane is a very good example. He would get into the Barca, Real teams and win trophies.

I get that you love Spurs, you see improvement but a clause stating without CL or if the club do not challenge, they should be allowed to leave for a certain fee.

I would also apply this to someone like Pogba because what clubs do is feed lies to the players, get them tied down to a long contract.

It does ruin a footballers career, when every time you have an average game, the transfer fee is mentioned.

I think you've got a point but by the same token, perhaps these clubs will need the money due to the pandemic and so will have to sell at a lower value? Personally, I would love to see Kane at a top club, surrounded by quality players. May even have a positive effect for England. Not that Spurs don't have a few, but I'm talking about going to a club with a culture of winning trophies with top players.

Probably because the clubs simply refuse it, and even when a player thought they had such an arrangement, like Suarez at Liverpool, the club just laughed a bid off.

I've always wondered why these top quality early 20s guys sign such long contracts, effectively tying them to the club in their best years.
But when you think about it, earning way more money, and not having to do anything different, isn't exactly mad. It's genius!

You don't have the pressure, you look "Loyal", the fans love you, and you presume the big clubs will still find the transfer fee for you if needs be.

He did but that wasn't with Newcastle and he spent his prime at a nothing club who were probably further away than winning things than the current spurs squad.

Yeh but the fact he'd already won the league probably factored into that. Already a champion so why not play for the club you love.

If Kane ends his career with no major trophies it will be an absolute travesty.
 
Just posted in the fixture thread but at 27 hes in his prime years and really needs to sit down at the end of this season and think about how he wants his career to go.

if he’s happy for it to fizzle away into nothing he should stay, if he wants to be a winner and remembered he needs to leave spurs Probably this summer.

I’d love him here I think in a right team Kane could hit 35+ goals a season. I’d love that team to be United.

Not his fault. This is the cost of playing for a team like Spurs. They have enough money to keep him and have too much pride to sell to any of their EPL rivals. They also demand exorbitant fees which only PSG, Barca and Real can afford outside the Premier League, and those teams have struggled financially ( bar PSG) over the last few years. This is why players should be careful when signing these long term contracts. Sign them with a team you plan to dedicate most of your career to, forget loyalty to fans. These players need to make use of the bosman rule as transfers are now too expensive to coordinate.

There is still time. If he were to move this summer I could see him having at least 3 years at the absolute top level. Not least if he's surrounded by better players and plays in a more positive system.
 
Will never leave because Levy will just price potential suitors out of it, same with Son both poor cnuts stuck there until they run down their contracts.
 
Kane should probably know now that United is the next step.

If I were him I'd be pushing like mad for a summer move. It's a pretty easy prem title win just like for Van Persie.
 
How much do people think he's worth - not asking about how much they think Levy would ask for - given the economic situation, his recent injury history, but also the reality that there are very few world class strikers in the game today?

Newcastle did finish 2nd in Shearer's first season there in fairness before drifting into mid table for Shearer's peak years.

Thing is here is Spurs really have peaked in terms of league positions so following the Newcastle trajectory from late 90s.
