Harry Kane | Bayern Munich player

He seems the obvious answer for us but, as I've said before, just can't see him playing for another club in England (even given his supposed move to City; fact is it didn't happen)

There’s no chance that’s accurate. He’s wanted out for 2 years and Spurs are currently looking as far off challenging for titles as they’ve done at any point since he’s been there. They’d have to make some extraordinary promises to convince him it’s worth staying there and even then I doubt he still trusts Levy.

Exactly. Only reason i can see him wanting to stay is maybe if poch is back & he loves him.

Kane has never been about pace but top finisher

You need to do your bit to earn the right to demonstrate this finishing. Otherwise in games we don’t have control he will just be uninvolved complaining about ‘service’.

He's probably better off if his only other option is Man Utd. We are by no means guaranteed to win trophies and he will likely get a statue at Spurs if he stays.

Hope he signs a contract, I’d much rather Osimhen.

Kane is class but I’d rather we go a striker we can likely rely on for the next 8-9 years than 2 or 3.

Is Oshimen Wayne Rooney level? As I don’t understand why we need a striker for 8-9 years.

Most of our league titles have been around strikers giving us 1-3 good years.

Just saying.

Kane wouldn't necessarily be my first choice but I'd much prefer he was on the market this summer.

Because aside from the likely very expensive Osimhen (who for all we know another club could beat us to anyway) I'm not sure what other options are out there that convince.

It would probably depend on Champions League qualification.. but I reckon if we have a good end to the season he will leave.

No. Rashford plays for a big club on the up.
And if we wasn’t on the up? If we kept being mediocre and he still decided to extend out of his love for and belief in the club? Would that be an indicator of a small club mentality or would we then praise him for having his heart in the right place?

If Rashford kept talking about winning the big trophies and leaking out how he was such a winner then yes?
It’s clear as day he doesn’t need Spurs to be competing to be happy to stay yet here we are talking about Kane and his will to win trophies.
Rashford hasn’t signed a new contract yet by the way

I know nothing about all the leaking etc. I’m just tired of smearing players for staying at their clubs, because at the end of the day that’s an aspect of the sport I love - loyalty and love.

For example Perez joining Deportivo - despite being way too good for that league, he simply wants to donate his later years to get the club back up. To call that unambitious instead of, say, admirable and wholesome to me is cynical and dull. Same goes for Kane and his willingness to stay.

It is clear that Kane does not have that, I want to win mentality that alot of world class players have. He has alot of qualities, we see it for England too, he doesn't really deliver in a way that says, I am the main man and I will make sure we win today. Players of the past have done this with their mentality.

I think he is satisfied with his career and just wants to be a Spurs legend, get the PL record and hopefully try and win an Audi cup.

Not the right profile of player we should be targeting. We need fighters with a serious ambition to win. Not ones with a losers mentality and zero ambition to win.

It’s not smearing, it’s listening to his lies in wanting to stay
Why can’t he just say he loves Spurs? He loves being the big fish and titles doesn’t matter as long as he scores goals? Since it’s obvious titles doesn’t actually matter to him.
The current manager is on the verge of walking and whose contract is up in the summer anyway. They’re a distant 5th and looks to be EL football at best next season. The squad needs big investment to even compete never mind win trophies. What drives people like me mad is the coverage his new contract will be. He’ll believe in the squad and its ability to win the titles he wants to win as if he’s a winner when nothing he has done has ever proved that.
Remember when he signed a 7 (?) year contract and fans pretend it was a huge mistake? It’s my opinion he locked himself out of a move on purpose and knew Levy would never follow through on a make believe gentleman’s agreement yet he hid behind that scenario and big winner Kane couldn’t get his move.
Because he’s such a winner

He definitely isn’t winning anything there but there’s no guarantee he does here either, not the top honours anyway. He’s got very few years left at the top and the only team in England who’d go for him are still a gamble. Maybe he’s content with a fat pay rise, shearers record and a massive statue outside the cheese room.

Not bothered if he stays - would only have been for this if we were getting him on a free/massively cut-price. Seems impossible for those options to manifest. He's missed his big money move by 2/3 seasons at this point.

Be interesting to see who we go for in his place. I'd love Osimhen but can see us being priced out if our takeover isn't complete by the summer. Vlahovic could be one to keep an eye on with Juve's issues, and Abraham will probably head back to the PL at some point. Really hope we don't stop-gap it with a move for Benzema or something similar, although that option could be made slightly more palatable by addressing other key areas and bringing in a young talent. I've been really impressed by Ferguson at Brighton.

Why do people believe this btw? a rumour or did he say this in an interview?

Genuinely think Levy is selling him an idea of signing another contract with a promise he can leave for x amount in the summer. And that he is dumb enough to accept it.

If he signs it, we can at least move on.

The concern with Kane, apart from his age, is his lack of pace in context of our attacking options.
Next season, this is our likely attacking options:

Rashford/ Garnacho——ST/ Martial ——Antony/ Sancho

Bruno

Our right wing options are players who are more comfortable retaining possession rather than creating openings through pace/ individual skills. Both our players in LW can run at defenders and create something on their own.
The striker I feel needs to be someone who can link up well but at the same time, carry a threat on his own. Kane is really good at the link-up but dont think he can unlock a defence on his own at this stage of his career. I feel we need someone else who fits into our attack.

With all the ELs/ECLs that Tottenham regularly plays in as well as the cups, I don't think it's that unlikely that he'll end up winning a trophy there should he stay.
That being said ending his career with nothing more than a league cup or a conference league title would still be pretty damn terrible for the player he is.
I do respect one club men though and they're a dying breed in football so should he choose to stay at Tottenham, I guess he'll be looked at in the same fashion as Totti.

Still a bit early for him to decide and we don't know which clubs are inquiring or what the status of these clubs will be yet come the summer, the top 4 run is usually a calamity which somehow Spurs got through last year, United could fall back, Spurs could find some big investment/sale while Glazers struggle to find a buyer/investment wanting too much. He'll have a Spurs contract lined up as a default option should nothing tempting happen.

Bayern might want a 50m sale that Levy simply rejects, will they be interested a year later. If it's sideways moves only he might as well see out his time at Spurs on a new deal securing his future pay.

Why do people believe this btw? a rumour or did he say this in an interview?

Because people believe what they want to believe even if it’s completely illogical. Even that article says that there have been no negotiations on a new contract after 2021 (when Levy reneged on his promise to let him leave). Yet, suddenly Kane is prepared to re-sign for a team currently having a fairly disastrous season by their standards, rather than giving himself a shot at trophies and increased wages? Seems hard to believe.

He’s open to renewing doesn’t mean he will, it’s the only way he should be playing it really. He knows full well if Spurs don’t make Top 4 he isn’t renewing.

I totally agree, this is my argument around him. You look at the raw stats and you can't argue with it. He's a fantastic player. He's got fantastic ability as a playmaker too, albeit he can be a bit cumbersome. But when it comes to delivering silverware? Harry Kane gets a lot of excuses made for him because of his team but he's had some opportunities for Spurs and England and he usually under delivers.

People argue he's done as much as he can in those sides, but has he? What makes our current team substantially closer to winning a major trophy than England or Spurs under Poch? I would argue we are at a similar level. We are not the favourites for any competition we enter. So that means when we sign Harry Kane and put him on a huge contract into his 30s we're saying we are buying you to get us over the line. Can he actually do that or will he fold like a pack of cards?

He's a risk in my eyes. Not to fail to score goals as he guarantees that, but that he'll be a difference maker. I wouldn't be surprised if we play towards Kane's strengths, he scores 30 goals and we get no closer to winning.

Surely this is an absolutely nothing statement? Of course he will be open to signing a new deal as Spurs has been his club for so long.

But if they're not in the Champion's League, if Conte goes and he doesn't like the new ideas and direction, I'm sure he'd be open to listening to other offers as well.

I wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion he signs a new Spurs contract based on this 'news'. It's probably more likely he does than doesn't, but this means next to nothing IMO.

How many goals would Kane score over 4 years? 60-80? How much is that worth to us…
If we get new owners how does that matter? And if you take out the owners issue, a striker scoring 20/25 goals leads us to even one PL/CL then I would say it’s well worth.

Pretty much this. He’s a spurs fan, why leave your boyhood club for one where the likelihood of trophies is currently only marginally larger. Let’s be honest we’ve had quite a few false dawns over the last 10 years.

Leaving spurs for guaranteed trophies like what would be on offer at Pep managed city, is a mile away from what we currently offer.

Agreed, its a line thrown to make Spurs fans feel better, the times where a WC winning mentality is required, he shy's away from it. Spurs going for title, Spurs CL final, England WC Semis, England Euros final, England WC quarter, Harry Kane has failed on every occasion.

He is a terrific striker, gets loads of goals, yet in the big moments, he is nowhere to be seen. I actually do think Harry Kane at 30 is a risk too big to take, with injuries, pace, its all too much. I would rather us stay clear, especially if he has that complacent mentality.

Ten Hag is building the mentality of winners, we dont need someone to come spoil that. Ronaldo scored loads of goals yet the team players worse.

Ten Hag needs a ST who will press, no point signing Kane when he can barely jog of the ball.
