Hansi Flick | Barcelona boss

We just spent another 250m

Following 200 odd for each of the 2 seasons prior.

But with every season things are getting more difficult. We are or will be very close to exceeding PSR. We cannot afford to spend £200m every summer because of these restrictions. The board have gambled on spending big this season to get CL qualification and it’s momentarily backfired.

We won’t be able to spend £200m next summer. We don’t have the cash and PSR will stop us from doing so. Heck we’re not sacking our manager because of the compensation due to him.

Barca have scored 40 goals in La Liga after 12 games (conceded 11), as is appropriate for Flickball.

In comparison to Madrid's 21. Who have also conceded 11 thus far. Leading to a GD that is 19 goals higher. What a shame that La Liga uses head to head rather than goal difference as a tie-breaker - oh wait!

Flick is clearly very good, not sure what went wrong with the German NT

Seems increasingly clear to me that his style of football requires a lot of practice/time spent together to work effectively - and that time is not available to you as a national team manager.

Die Mannschaft play the same 4231 as Bayern though. All age levels are trained in that system

The sale of a player like Rashford for 50-60m can easily be manipulated to lead to a 200m spend without breaching PSR. I don’t think it’s a question of if we can spend big, it’s more how we can, and whether we should. It’s definitely a case, to some degree, of sell to buy, but depending who we sell, we can spend multiples of that.

Whether we should, is another question.

They couldn't score against Japan. That's it really. It's extremely high risk high reward football his teams play, and in a WC competition where a single "bad" game can be your undoing, it's more vulnerable to the vagaries of chance than, say, Southgate's approach

On another day Germany put 4 past Japan, win that game, the group, and go on a deep run through the WC. Possibly even win it. Unfortunately for them, they missed a ton of clear cut chances and Japan converted *all* of theirs, then went on to beat Spain too, and that was that

Pretty much. Germany had the fourth highest xG in the whole tournament despite only playing 3 matches. If we had a decent striker we would've made it through to the later stages.

Another 7 goals spectacle, although letting red star get two is maybe a bit much.

They've already lost to Monaco so it will be interesting to see how they do against the big boys.

But they've played Bayern!

I said the big boys
Everybody gets cut down to size by the Flickinator (except Monaco and Osasuna, they were too tiny to begin with)

So, Liverpool?
Yeah Barcelona and Liverpool are clearly the two best teams at the moment.
If they can keep their level and don't have many injuries they will be the favorites to win the CL.

I remember being 100 v 1 on X about this. Barca fans came for me when after the Espanyol game where Espanyol had 3 goals disallowed and missed some great chances I said Flick ball is being found out and that suicidal high line will be exposed and boom see what's happened since. You simply can't play like that for a whole season without being found out.

They're top of the league and second in CL group. Results like yesterday's happen. It's their away form specifically that's worrying

Amazing how things change. Flickball has been found out.
I’m not sure it’s right to say this after yesterday’s game to be honest. Barca were very good at times but just couldn’t score. Their xG must have been 3+. Lewa missed some great chances.

Alaves scored an early set piece and from then on defended about as well as they could with a bit of luck thrown in. Barca created enough and probably deserved to win the game.

Just three wins in their last eight matches (3-2-4). Their win away to Dortmund was very lucky too.
They are at home to Atlético on Saturday who have been superb recently (winning ALL of their last eleven games).

Still since the Celta game the results have been more inkeeping with the performances. Before that they scored a lot but we're lucky not to concede alot too, offsides and bad finishing but Celta 2-2, Betis as well have shown their weaknesses. Barca fans will say the red card changed the Celta game but forget it's because of the suicidal high line the git the red card in the first place. Flick is now trying to compensate defensively and it's affecting their offense. They'll need to strike a proper balance over the course of the season or find themselves in second soon as I'm sure you guys will start your typical run of playing wrap but picking up points in the second half of the season.

They'll be 3rd if Atletico and Real win their games in hand. Just a month ago it looked like they've already won the league.

His style is just incredibly demanding and extremely difficult to sustain.

Feels strange to say but even though I absolutely despise barca he's made me kinda like them at the moment.

Looks like a very decent fellow and is obviously a great coach with an amazing style of play.

Inappropriate Content
Safe to say, but *he* has made me fall in love with the Ball again.
Took about a decade or so, but when it did, can't stop smiling. Don't even care if we win nada from here.

Hes done a brilliant job to be fair. Barca looked miles off it until he came.
Xavi had lot of good ideas and implementation. Most of his youth call-ups and signings are paying dividends now.
The only thing is he should never have been the 1st coach of a team as big as this. Should have been an assistant coach. He should have taken his time to learn, there are a lot of other aspects of coaching.
I am open to him coaching us again, but he should atleast coach 3 years-ish in another team to learn and hone his trait better.

Doing decent, but needs his own players before proper judgement can be made.

See i'm not sure how much Barcelona's improvement comes down to Flick's coaching vs Xavi's and how much is just Cubarsí, Pedri and Lamine Yamal playing more, Lewandowski not going half a season looking finished, and Raphinha starting the season in his role instead of the manager going 2/3 of the season before figuring it out

Christ, coming into the Flick thread to Amorim bash is quite something...
Think you've missed it, it's not about Amorim but about Man United fans and the weird rules they make that only apply at United.

Flick is doing very well but Xavi is getting murdered here. In his two seasons they finished with 88 and 85 points, winning the title once. Barcelona aren't going to finish much differently this season. If they win the CL then sure.

Looking at your contributions in the Amorim thread you're clearly very anti him and sad ETH didn't do better. Bringing that into the Flick thread is odd

Even there, if not for the stupid and highly questionable red card to Araujo, they likely make the SF against Dortmund last season

Two seasons ago they fell at the group stage - against Bayern and eventual runner-up Inter, while dealing with several injuries in the backline, playing a mentally checked out and about to retire Piqué - who cost them the match against Inter, getting absolutely screwed out of a clear penalty in Milan, and missing 50 sitters in Munich while playing Bayern off the park in the first half

Mostly, it's the fact that the football was often boring, the quality of the team was worse and a much better, rampant Madrid team humiliated them in the supercup which turned the entire situation toxic

Try again! Though he is doing a terrible job so far, I don't want him sacked and think he deserves more time to see if we'll improve. Just don't agree with the load of excuses and blaming of EtH for the poor job he's doing.

EtH could and maybe should have been sacked after the Liverpool debacle. He's my favourite Ajax manager but failed here and deserved to be sacked. You are quite black and white aren't ya?

I am fairly black and white, true. But it's just an odd thread to use to make the points you're trying to make. But it's really none of my business, so I'll shut up!
